Chapter 483 The New General Manager!
Lily's jaw practically hit the floor as she stared at Deborah. She knew Deborah had no shame, but this? This was next-level audacity!
The key point was that Susan and other relatives also nodded in agreement with Deborah's words!
It was like they all shared this delusion that being Ryder's side chick was some kind of golden ticket!
The way they were acting, you'd think they'd all line up for the role if Ryder gave the green light!
Lily was beyond mortified—her head was practically spinning!
They were making it so awkward!
Seeing this, Ryder didn't want Lily to be further embarrassed.
He immediately had George gather two subordinates to throw these relatives out!
The room suddenly became much quieter!
However, two people were feeling utterly dejected!
Theodore and Larry!
Theodore forced a smile and pleaded with Ryder, "Mr. Clark, I was too arrogant. Could you be magnanimous and spare me this once? Name any condition, and as long as I can do it, I won't hesitate!"
Ryder didn't answer Theodore directly but instead looked at Hubert, "What do you think?"
Hubert was caught off guard, not expecting Ryder to toss him this hot potato! But his years in the game kicked in, and he answered smoothly, "Theodore's been running Jakarda City like he owns it for over two decades, especially lately—he's got a stranglehold on import-export and squeezes everyone for tolls. Our company and plenty of our partners have taken a beating because of him, but we've been stuck with no way out! Now that he's at your mercy, we're counting on you to bring justice for us!"
After Hubert finished speaking, the other business tycoons from Jakarda City behind him also echoed, "Please, Mr. Clark, bring justice for us!"
Ryder's lips curled into a smile.
He had to hand it to Hubert—the guy knew how to butter him up while handing him the reins!
Hubert sneaked a glance at Ryder, trying to read his face.
He was walking a fine line—too harsh, and he might stir up trouble with Theodore's loyalists. But if he went too soft, he'd be disrespecting Ryder and painting a target on his own back.
After a moment of hesitation, he straightened up and added, "Mr. Clark, I've got a stack of dirt on Theodore's shady dealings in Jakarda. If you need it..."
"No need to give it to me!" Ryder interrupted. "You've been in Jakarda long enough to have connections with the cops. Just pass the evidence to them and let them deal with it. Sounds like a plan, right?"
Hubert wiped the sweat from his forehead, "Mr. Clark, you're right. I'll take care of it right away!"
As for Theodore lying on the ground, he had already realized that the game was over!
He was finished.
In his anger and shame, he raised his head.
Locking eyes with Ryder, he snarled, "Ryder Clark! I know you've got pull, but don't get it twisted just because you got the upper hand today. I've got someone way bigger backing me—someone you don't wanna mess with. You're gonna regret this, mark my words!"
Facing the threat, Ryder responded calmly, "Relax, I don't give a damn who's got your back. If anyone's stupid enough to come after me, they'll be right there with you—six feet under!"
After speaking, Hubert quickly called for two people to take Theodore away and personally called the police chief of Jakarda City to explain the situation.
While Larry watched Theodore get taken down so easily, his face went ghostly pale, and his knees nearly buckled!
He almost stammered as he flattered Ryder, "M-Mr. Clark, Theodore had it coming with all the shady crap he's pulled. I never liked the guy! Since you and the crew are here, lemme hook you up with the VIP suite—top-shelf drinks, the works. My treat, no charge. Sound good?"
Ryder didn't even look at Larry but instead put his arm around Adam's shoulder and asked with a smile, "Adam, are you interested in managing this bar and becoming its general manager?"
Adam, who had been in a daze for the past ten minutes, was even more confused!
He turned his head slowly, looking at Ryder, and asked in disbelief, "Ryder, am I dreaming? Are you really the chairman of Maple Group?"
Ryder laughed, "Hey, if you wanna believe it's all a joke, go ahead!"
"But how? Back in high school, we were both broke as hell, scraping by. Seven years later, and you're running the show? This... this is insane!"
Adam's words had the Jakarda big shots sweating bullets. They were thinking, 'This guy's mouthing off to Ryder? Better watch it! Piss him off, and we're all gonna feel the heat!'
But they didn't know that it was precisely Adam's straightforward and unpretentious nature that made Ryder consider him a good friend!
If Adam had started flattering him the moment his identity was revealed, he wouldn't be the good friend Ryder once knew!
Ryder rolled his eyes, "I'm just saying, you wanna run this place or what?"
"Hell yeah! If you're offering, I'm taking it!
Adam asked straight up, "If I take the GM spot, what happens to Larry?" He shot a look at Larry while he said it.
Larry, hearing this conversation, couldn't help but twitch. He tried to control his emotions and said to Ryder, "Mr. Clark, I know you're the chairman of Maple Group, but this bar is Josh's asset. All personnel changes are up to him. Shouldn't you..."
Before he could finish, his phone blared!
He looked at the caller ID, it was Josh!
His heart skipped a beat, and he answered right away!
Josh's voice thundered through the line, "Larry, you've got some nerve! You're messing with my boss, Mr. Clark? You think I don't know about your little games all these years? Effective immediately, you're out. Pack your crap and head back to Houston. Mr. Clark's picking the new GM."
The call ended!
Leaving Larry in shock amidst the busy signal.
