Chapter 539 Hooking up in the Woods?
Ryder felt quite aggrieved.
From the moment he opened his eyes, he had been busy calling, messaging, and sending voice notes to Sarah.
Even when his phone was down to its last bit of battery, Sarah still ignored him!
Women, huh?
So sensitive!
Always overthinking!
Just then, Rex knocked on the door. "Ryder, Uncle Ryan and Clara sent me to grab you for breakfast."
"Got it! Be right there!" Ryder plugged in his phone, threw on some clothes, and headed out.
Since Sarah wasn't giving him a chance to explain, they both needed to calm down first.
At the breakfast table.
It was a hearty and healthy meal, specially prepared by Clara.
It was delicious!
Ryan, Rex, Donna, and Clara were all enjoying their meal.
Except Ryder. He couldn't taste a thing.
After they finished, Ryan squinted at him. "Ryder, what's up? You and Sarah have a fight or something?"
Ryder lifted his eyelids. "Uncle Ryan, you really are smart!"
"Ha! Finally, something honest out of you!" Ryan leaned in, curious. "So, did you really hook up with some hottie last night? Sarah blew up my phone—over ten calls! Clara gave me hell for it."
"Ahem." Clara cleared her throat, and Ryan instantly clammed up.
Rex then added, "Oh yeah, Ryder! Almost forgot—this morning, I saw Sarah blew up my phone too. Over ten calls! She was texting me, asking where you were. So I told her..."
Ryder had a premonition.
Rex went on, "That you were at Breeze Club! She didn't buy it, so I even snapped a pic at the entrance. But after that—crickets."
Ryan was practically grinning. "Ryder, you got screwed this time!"
Clara gave Ryder a look. "Couples fight. It's normal. Your wife clearly cares about you. Don't let this mess things up!"
Ryder nodded.
He blamed himself for not giving Sarah enough sense of security!
Ryder got up, intending to go back to his room to continue calling Sarah to apologize!
But Donna stopped him, suggesting they take a walk in the small woods behind the club to walk off the meal and have a little chat.
Old classmates meeting privately naturally had a lot to talk about.
On the stone-paved path in the woods.
Donna first chatted with Ryder about some fun times in college, then recounted her recent experiences.
It turned out Donna started live streaming and selling her looks because her mother was seriously ill and urgently needed money for surgery.
Ryder offered to help, but Donna shut him down.
She told him some clueless rich dude in her stream had actually dropped a million bucks on her!
After the Sunshine APP took their 30% cut and taxes, she still walked away with over six hundred grand.
She was good now—the money was enough!
Seeing Ryder's unpleasant expression, Donna playfully smiled. "Just kidding! I know that 'SerenityBreeze' is you, Ryder! Otherwise, you wouldn't have been able to save me from Tyler right away! I really can't repay these two favors!"
'This strong logical reasoning ability was indeed suitable for media work!' Ryder thought to himself.
But just then, the sound of high heels clicking on the ground grew closer!
The woman approaching was a heavyset figure, decked out in flashy jewelry and caked in makeup.
It was Lisa!
Ryder didn't recognize her, but Donna's face instantly soured.
Because Lisa was her cousin!
Lisa's mom, Jasmine, was the younger sister of Donna's mom, Debra.
Back in the day, the two sisters had fallen for the same man, turning them into bitter rivals.
In the end, Debra married for love, while Jasmine was forced into a marriage of convenience—trading her freedom for money and status.
Now, Debra, was critically ill, and Donna had no choice but to turn to the Moores for help—only to be laughed at and tossed out by their security.
Jasmine, who married for money and power, had made the smart move back then!
As for Donna and Lisa, raised under the influence of their feuding elders, they'd grown up as rivals too.
Truth was, when they were kids, Lisa had a soft spot for Donna.
But she never expected Donna to be a girl at heart!
So, Lisa held a grudge against Donna for stealing her first love.
Just then, Lisa strutted up to Donna, nose in the air. "Well, if it isn't my deadbeat cousin? Couldn't squeeze cash out of my house, so now you're out here hustling guys? Hooking up in the woods, huh?"
Donna's cheeks flushed. "Lisa, did you eat crap for breakfast? Your mouth reeks."
"Donna, when you're mad, you really do sound like a chick."
"You—"
"What, did I hit a nerve? Still pretending to be a man?"
Lisa would never admit it to Donna, but if Donna hadn't been so obsessed with being this delicate, perfect woman back then, Lisa wouldn't have spiraled into overeating and turned into what people called a "big fat pig!"
Now, losing the weight felt impossible.
And because of that, she hated Donna even more.
Donna had become everything she'd dreamed of being as a girl, while Lisa ended up as the "fat pig" in everyone's eyes—stuck married to a spineless guy like Kyle.
"Donna, do you know what despair is? Let me tell you!"
Donna frowned. "What do you want?"
"I know you're working at Sunshine Media, doing those live streams. But you know what? My family own a chunk of Sunshine Media. One word from me, and you're out. And that million bucks some sucker threw at you? The platform will snatch it back for 'violating terms.' You'll be left with nothing!"
As she said this, Lisa's pudgy hand dug into her bag and pulled out a fat stack of credit cards.
Then, she whipped out a sleek black card and tossed it at Ryder's feet, smirking. "Here's two million. Take it and get lost! Don't ever contact this freak again. The Moores aren't people you mess with!"
Lisa had planned to toss him ten grand, but seeing Ryder's sharp threads, she figured he was one of Donna's sugar daddies with some cash to burn.
Still, compared to a top-tier princess like her, he was just a speck of dirt on the pavement.
Two million? More than enough to make him disappear.
He might even thank her!
