Chapter 557 Community Rule

Ryder and his two companions had just climbed to the fifth floor when they heard a woman's crying and a man's cursing.

It was a chaotic mix!

Ryder couldn't help but frown.

Brent also looked puzzled, his face darkening. "This shouldn't be happening. It was pretty quiet when I was here before!"

Could something have gone wrong?

Thinking of this, the three quickened their pace up the stairs.

Sure enough, they saw the door wide open.

The noise was coming from inside!

As soon as they stepped in, a snarky male voice hit them: "Wow, the big boss finally shows up!"

Ryder and the others followed the voice.

They saw the twelve people Brent had mentioned earlier, all squatting on the ground with their hands on their heads. The men were silent, and the women were sobbing.

Some even had red marks on their faces from being hit!

Hovering over them were five security guards, electric batons in hand, looking like they were ready to throw down.

The lead security guard, though lean, had a nasty smirk. He sneered, "Let me introduce myself. I'm Gregory Baker, head of security for this neighborhood. The community has a clear rule against running businesses here!"

"That's bullshit! There's no rule like that in the guidelines!" Brent shot back, his face flushed with anger.

He was pissed.

Seeing the smashed computers and papers scattered all over the office area felt like a punch to the gut.

Gregory blinked and shrugged indifferently. "Well, I added it this morning!"

"You guys are out of line! I'm going to report you to the property management!" Brent snapped.

The moment he said it, the security guards burst out laughing.

"Report Mr. Baker? Seriously? He's the heir to Passionate Property Management. He's just slumming it as a guard for experience."

"Starting a business with no cash? Y'all must be desperate!"

"Sure, the government's all about entrepreneurship, but you're messing with the wrong guy!"

"Listen up, buddy. Here's a tip: drop to your knees, say you're sorry, and maybe—just maybe—I'll let this slide."

At this point, Gregory stepped up to Ryder, who, standing between Brent and Rex, clearly stood out—so much so that Gregory pegged him as the boss.

Gregory reached out, tapping Ryder's cheek with a mocking grin. "Don't blame me, man. My wife wanted to live below you to keep it real, and here you are, clacking away all night! So, buddy, you catch what they said? Get on your knees, say sorry, and maybe—if I'm feeling generous—I'll let this go."

He laughed, the kind of cold, cocky laugh that made your skin crawl.

Ryder spoke calmly, "Do you know the consequences of slapping my face?"

"Consequences? You seem pretty tough. I love taming disobedient little wild dogs like you." Gregory sneered sarcastically and continued to slap Ryder's face.

This time, his hand stopped in mid-air.

Rex had reached out halfway and grabbed Gregory's arm.

With a forceful twist, he broke Gregory's thin arm in half!

A crisp snap!

Followed by Gregory's agonized scream!

Gregory reacted and tried to swing his other hand at Ryder's face.

Again, Rex intercepted it.

And broke it too!

The next second, Rex kicked Gregory away. "Dare to slap Ryder's face? Ask me if I agree first!"

Rex's kick was powerful, sending Gregory flying 10 feet away.

A few security guards were knocked over, crashing into tables and crying out in pain.

Everyone present was stunned, all eyes on Rex.

They stared at him so much that he felt a bit embarrassed.

He awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck. "Uh, don't look at me. Look at Ryder! I'm just following his lead."

The moment he said it, everyone's eyes snapped to Ryder.

Meanwhile, Gregory and the security guards scrambled to their feet.

Gregory, in particular, his arms dangling uselessly, shot Ryder a murderous glare. "You messed up my hands? You're dead, man!"

Ryder just shook his head, cool as ever, and pointed at him. "I'll give you one shot. Apologize to those twelve people—now. Or it's not just your hands that'll be broken today."

"Fuck that, why the hell should I apologize?" Gregory's glare turned ice-cold as he locked eyes with Ryder. "You—give me your name. I'll have your company tanked by tomorrow!"

Upon hearing this, the twelve people squatting on the ground looked terrified.

They didn't believe Brent's friend could stand up to Gregory.

Some even suggested:

"Mr. Wallace, tell your friend to stop. Don't go against Mr. Baker!"

"Yes, Mr. Baker's father is the chairman of Passionate Property Management Company! A director of Maple Group!"

"Don't be impulsive."

Offending Gregory would likely doom this project.

Gregory enjoyed the fearful looks from everyone. Then, supported by the security guards, he walked up to Ryder again.

This time, Gregory made sure to keep a distance from Rex.

He sneered at Ryder. "Bastard, you're something! In New York, besides the top families and the elite, no one dares mess with me. You're the first! Brave, but stupid. Now you're in deep shit. Kneel, cripple your own hands, or I'll make your life a living hell!"

As he finished, the guards closed in, electric batons crackling, ready to take Ryder and his crew down.

Brent's face changed. "Do you even know who you're messing with?"

Gregory rolled his eyes. "What, you gonna tell me he's the CEO of Maple Group? My dad's boss?"

Brent, knowing Gregory was the son of a Maple Group exec, was about to say exactly that. But since Gregory beat him to it, he was stuck.

He clenched his teeth and spat out, "Yeah, this is Mr. Ryder Clark, the chairman of Maple Group!"

The security guards burst out laughing, looking at Ryder like he was a joke.

"Ryder Clark, huh? My dad mentioned that Mr. Clark from their company handed Mr. Wallace four billion bucks. They're tight like that!" Gregory sneered at Brent. "So, you're Mr. Wallace now?"

He couldn't stop laughing. "Man, I can't believe I'm dealing with a bunch of pretentious idiots!"

But the throbbing in his arms snapped him back.

In an instant, Gregory's face twisted. "Take them down! Beat the crap out of these losers!"
