Chapter 1037: Tall Trees Catch the Wind

As soon as Albert and Kevin laid eyes on the woman, fear gripped them—none other than Lola, the notorious old witch and Director of the Political Education Department at Sunset Valley High School.

"Lola, we weren't saying anything." Albert hurriedly explained, "You must have mistaken us for someone else."

Just as Lola was about to speak, she heard Oliver announcing the end of the flag-raising ceremony from the platform, instructing classes to return and the staff to gather for a meeting. With a piercing glare at Albert, she swiftly departed.

Kevin and Albert breathed a sigh of relief, following the crowd back to the teaching building. Meanwhile, Audrey and the other faculty members entered the conference room in the office building to listen to Oliver's summary of work and outlook for the new semester.

"Audrey, your attire is truly exquisite. I notice all the male teachers are captivated by you." As Audrey sat down, a voice came from beside her. She turned to see Kimberly, the English teacher, who had a relatively good relationship with her at Sunset Valley High School, aside from Alissa. Kimberly was straightforward, seldom engaging in gossip behind others' backs.

"Kimberly, please don't say that." Blushing, Audrey helplessly replied, "The school insisted on having me speak as a representative on stage, but I didn't have suitable attire. I had to buy this outfit at a steep price last minute, and the school doesn't reimburse. What else could I do?"

"But you look stunning in anything you wear." Kimberly remarked, eyeing Audrey's prominently displayed bosom, seemingly envious. "In a place this large, it's hard for others not to notice you.''

"Enough teasing, please." Audrey sighed softly, "In truth, I envy your figure. I'm not merely being polite. Do you think having a large chest actually benefits me? It's quite a nuisance.''

"Well, that is true. The taller the tree, the more wind it attracts. A large bosom invites jealousy." Kimberly nodded in agreement, understanding that for women like them who relied on their talents, a good physique often led others to overlook their efforts.

Audrey didn't wish to continue the topic and said softly, "By the way, I've noticed Kevin has made significant progress in English lately. I heard he attended tutoring sessions at your place during the summer break? The improvement appears quite evident. Whenever you have time, consider giving him additional support.''

Kimberly's fair face flushed instantly. Somewhat flustered, she responded, "I'm quite busy myself. Why don't you tutor him instead?''

"I'm alright with English, but not qualified to tutor him specifically in the subject.'' Audrey chuckled lightly, "Consider it a favor for me. Kevin is my cousin's child, and it's not easy for her to raise him alone. Besides, Kevin was already doing well in English; after his tutoring sessions, he might even rank first. If Kevin's English improves, it benefits you too. Put in a little effort for both our sakes, won't you?''

"Alright then." Kimberly found no excuses to refuse and could only nod helplessly, feeling regretful for getting herself into this predicament.

During the staff meeting, Oliver reported on Sunset Valley High School's academic performance in the annual examination.

"This year's academic examination results have been exceptional, thanks to the strong support from all sectors of society. Most importantly, it's due to the hard work of all the staff present here. Allow me to express my gratitude to everyone!"

With that, Oliver rose and bowed deeply to the audience below. The teachers couldn't help but applaud enthusiastically, engaging in excited murmurs.

Subsequently, Oliver presented the school's three-year construction goals: the completion of Phase One of the staff apartments project by October, with final inspections and handovers by year-end; the establishment of a housing allocation committee to rank all school staff members, with school leadership abstaining from the process. The aim was to entirely resolve staff housing issues within three years and improve staff benefits, transforming Sunset Valley High School into a first-class institution.

"I used to say we should surpass the City's First High School, but now I feel that goal is too modest. We must have a long-term vision in life." Oliver gestured grandly and declared, "What is the City's First High School anyway? Our target is Starfall Town First High School. Let's strive to surpass Starfall Town First High School in five years. Do you all have the confidence?"

"Yes!" The audience thunderously consented, with none finding Oliver's ambitions extravagant. Over the years, the progress at Sunset Valley High School had been evident to all, and if Oliver could deliver on his promises, improve staff benefits, no one would doubt his words.

"Now, let's read out a document from the Education Bureau." Oliver proceeded to read a document, informing about a male teacher from a certain school in the city maintaining inappropriate relationships with several female students in his class, a deplorable situation. The Education Bureau stressed the importance of enhancing ethical standards among all middle and primary schools in the city, warning male teachers not to cross boundaries and to be cautious, avoiding repeating such mistakes.

While teachers discussed amongst themselves in hushed tones, Audrey felt a chill run down her spine. Though Oliver had mentioned a male teacher, the fact remained that she had engaged in relations with Kevin. If someone were to catch wind of this, it could spell trouble. Unbeknownst to her, Kimberly sitting beside her also paled slightly. However, Vanessa, seated not far away, maintained an indifferent expression, inwardly sneering. Asserting that such documents were merely formalities, she found them utterly pointless in curbing scandals.

From the back, Quentin fixated on Audrey and Vanessa ahead, a sense of unrest stirring within him. Previously, he had attempted to set up Kevin by informing Douglas, only to receive a harsh reprimand over the phone, warning him to mind his own business. Perplexed by the situation, Quentin was even more puzzled upon seeing Kevin at school today, choosing to lay low. He couldn't target Audrey and instead turned his attention to Vanessa, texting her to meet in the small garden later that evening.

Upon receiving Quentin's message, Vanessa smirked in disdain. She had ascended the ladder to Oliver's favor and no longer found Quentin appealing. Replying with a scornful message, she dismissed him outright.

Reading Vanessa's response, Quentin nearly exploded with frustration. Vanessa had spared no words in belittling him, mocking his shortcomings and implying his inferiority compared to the school boys. Confounded, he tried to guess which male student had relations with Vanessa, eventually suspecting Kevin. With a growing animosity towards Kevin, he harbored a deep-seated desire for revenge, determined to find an opportunity to retaliate against him.
