Chapter 904: Devon's Calculations
Ivan felt a surge of anger seeing Kevin's smug demeanor. His father was the director of the local finance bureau, one of the most powerful officials in town. Everyone had to show his father respect, except for a few top leaders. At Sunset Valley High School, only Fiona's family was better off than his. Ivan had a group of followers, known as the delinquent gang, and the girls he liked were usually easy to get, just like Yasmine, whom he could play with however he wanted.
But Kevin had humiliated him several times. Last semester, they had a fight, and although both received warnings, it was clear Ivan was more embarrassed. Now, their homeroom teacher, Alissa, favored Kevin, even letting him manage the class group chat, which made Ivan very upset. He was the class president, after all.
It was obvious Alissa intended to replace him with Kevin. Kevin had better grades, more respect in the class, and significant support from the class committee. Ivan felt his position as class president was in jeopardy.
"Kevin, I'm talking to you. Didn't you hear me?" Ivan let go of Yasmine, squatted in front of Kevin, and said coldly, "Don't think that just because Alissa supports you, you can become class president. As long as my dad is the finance bureau director, you'll never get ahead. Stay in your place, or you'll regret it."
"Are you talking to me?" Kevin looked at Ivan with a confused expression. "All I see are two dogs barking, one male and one female. Wow, these dogs even speak human language."
Seeing Kevin's disdain, Ivan's face turned red with anger. At Sunset Valley High School, only Kevin dared to speak to him like this. Kevin's father had passed away, and his mother ran a small business, not part of the system. Ivan's father, as the finance bureau director, wouldn't likely target a high school student. Plus, Kevin was tall and strong, and not afraid to fight back. If they fought, Ivan wouldn't come out on top.
What frustrated Ivan even more was that Kevin was well-connected with both the police and the underworld. Last time, when Ivan had Douglas's brother Jeremy go after Kevin, the head of the criminal police, Mark, had intervened. Even the hotel owner, Natalie, was friendly with Kevin. Natalie was Jasper's woman, and few in the underworld would dare go against her. Only someone with a death wish would try.
"Kevin, don't be so arrogant. I'll get you one day," Ivan gritted his teeth and left. Kevin was like a stone in a latrine—stinky and hard, and full of thorns, making it impossible to deal with him. Was Kevin really his nemesis?
Just then, a black Audi drove up. A stern-looking middle-aged man got out and frowned, "Ivan, what are you doing here? Didn't I tell you to go to the hospital with your mother?"
Ivan turned and saw his father, Devon. His expression changed, and he said timidly, "Dad, I wasn't feeling well, so Mom went alone."
"Not feeling well? I think you just didn't want to go," Devon snorted, clearly disappointed. His son was truly useless. This was a perfect opportunity to build a relationship with Armando, whose wife, Maurice, was ill. He had his wife visit the hospital every day, but his son refused to go.
He then noticed Yasmine standing nearby and said with displeasure, "And who is she? Didn't I warn you to focus on your studies at school? If you mess around again, don't expect to get another penny from me. Mrs. Garcia has complained to me several times. Can't you give me some face?"
Ivan had once gotten a girl pregnant in middle school, causing a huge scandal that Devon had to spend a lot of money to resolve. Now, he hoped his son would pursue Fiona and marry into Armando's family. If Fiona found out Ivan was a womanizer, there would be no hope.
Ivan shivered, not daring to speak. His father had instructed him to pursue Fiona, but she had always been cold to him, giving him no chance. Frustrated, he turned to other girls, but he couldn't let his father know. If his father got angry and cut off his allowance, it would be disastrous.
Kevin saw an opportunity, stood up, and wrapped his arm around Yasmine, boldly groping her butt. He said with a grin, "Ivan, I'll be taking Yasmine with me."
Seeing Kevin take advantage of Yasmine, Ivan's face turned black with rage. But with his father present, he didn't dare react and had to pretend to be happy. "Kevin, come visit with Yasmine anytime."
"No problem, as long as my girlfriend is happy," Kevin said, squeezing Yasmine's firm butt. Seeing Ivan's frustrated expression made him feel triumphant. Although he had fooled around with Yasmine before, Ivan didn't know it was him, which wasn't as satisfying.
Yasmine, held tightly by Kevin and groped all over, felt weak but didn't dare resist. She had to pretend to be affectionate with Kevin.
Devon finally noticed Kevin and, recognizing him, said with some surprise, "You must be Kevin. Is this your girlfriend? Ha ha ha, impressive. Mrs. Garcia often praises you. Ivan, you should learn from Kevin. Look at him and then look at yourself. How did I end up with such a useless son?"
"I understand, Dad," Ivan said, almost in tears. He never expected his father to be so friendly with Kevin. He would never be able to hold his head high in front of Kevin again.
"Uncle, don't worry. Ivan and I get along well. I won't let him fall behind. I'll keep you updated on his progress at school and help him with his studies," Kevin said with a grin, continuing to grope Yasmine's firm butt. She had a nice butt, no wonder Ivan liked her.
Yasmine, pale-faced, didn't dare resist. She feared Ivan's jealousy and Devon's scrutiny. She regretted provoking Kevin, thinking he was powerless, but he wasn't afraid of Ivan's father. What kind of background did Kevin have?
"Then I'm relieved. Kevin, you should visit our home often. Ivan often hangs out with unsavory characters. I'm afraid he'll go astray. You need to keep an eye on him. If you need anything, call me. My number is XXX12597," Devon said.
As the finance bureau director and Armando's confidant, Devon didn't need to curry favor with Kevin. But he was a shrewd man, knowing not to offend people close to his superiors. Even if Kevin couldn't help him, a single word at a critical moment could ruin things. It's better to have more friends than enemies.
Moreover, Kevin seemed capable. He wasn't intimidated by the finance bureau director, spoke confidently, and even dared to hold his girlfriend in front of him. Such thick-skinned and mentally strong people often succeeded. Devon thought it wise to make a friend of Kevin.
"Kevin, where are you going? I'll give you a ride," Devon offered with a smile.
"Sure," Kevin said, pulling Yasmine into the car without hesitation. Ivan watched, feeling like he was about to vomit blood. This bastard was treating him like he was invisible. If Yasmine went with him, she might fall for Kevin and cheat on him.
Ivan was about to get into the car when Devon glared at him and said sternly, "You go to the hospital to see your mother right now. Don't come home until ten tonight."
"Got it, Dad," Ivan said, dejected. He saw Kevin's hand still shamelessly caressing Yasmine's smooth, white arm, and felt like his lungs would explode. But under his father's pressure, he didn't dare say anything and left, looking back every few steps.
Devon chatted with Kevin while driving. Kevin responded casually, his hand on Yasmine's white thigh, caressing it. Yasmine didn't dare resist, letting Kevin play with her body. When his hand reached her inner thigh, she instinctively tried to stop him.
Kevin glared at her, and she quickly let go, his hand soon reaching her private parts, teasing her through her denim skirt. She felt itchy and started to get wet, thinking Kevin was just as much of a womanizer as Ivan.
Kevin had Devon drop them off at a guesthouse. Devon said with a smile, "Kevin, just mention my name at the front desk, and you won't have to pay. But be careful not to get the girl pregnant."
"Don't worry, Uncle. We're just going to talk about school," Kevin said, waving goodbye with Yasmine. They really looked like a couple.
After Devon drove away, Yasmine nervously looked at Kevin and said, trembling, "Kevin, I'm sorry for what I said earlier. I'm Ivan's girlfriend. For his sake, please let me go."
"I'm not interested in you," Kevin said, glancing at Yasmine. He had taken her to provoke Ivan. His standards were high now. Although Yasmine was pretty and had a good figure, she couldn't compare to Audrey, Vanessa, or Kimberly. He wasn't desperate enough to sleep with Yasmine. "But do you really think Ivan sees you as his girlfriend? He's after Fiona. He's just playing with you."
"So what?" Yasmine sighed helplessly. "You can afford to provoke Ivan, but I can't. My dad works for the finance bureau. What can I do?"
Seeing Yasmine's pitiful look, Kevin smirked inwardly. She made herself out to be a victim, but she had been complicit in Ivan's schemes against Laura. Yasmine was notorious at Sunset Valley High School, not a virgin even before meeting Ivan, having slept with many boys. She clung to Ivan because he was the finance bureau director's son.
But Kevin didn't care about Yasmine and Ivan's affairs. Now that Laura was his girlfriend, he didn't want anyone targeting her, especially Ivan, who had pursued Laura for a long time. If Ivan found out Laura was his girlfriend, he might cause trouble.
"Yasmine, I don't care about you and Ivan," Kevin said, holding her waist and squeezing her butt. "But you need to keep an eye on Ivan for me. If he has any ideas about Laura, you must tell me immediately. You heard Devon earlier; he asked me to watch over his son. If I accidentally let slip that you're seducing his son, what do you think will happen to you, hmm?"
