Chapter 1333

"Kevin, I came to see you! Dad told me how brave you were, helping the cops catch all those bad guys. The school's giving you an award! You're a regular hero," Laura said, her cheeks flushed. Her white teeth flashed as she smiled, her breasts straining slightly against her yellow top. She looked energetic and youthful in her overalls and sneakers.

Beside her, Daisy, elegant and poised in a light gray suit, stood out. Her hair was pulled back, silver earrings glinting at her ears. The slightly open neckline of her suit hinted at the smooth skin of her neck, and her full figure was evident beneath her pencil skirt and black stockings. She commanded attention as if the entire hallway were her stage.

"Kevin, Laura and I just visited her grandfather. He was singing your praises. I've never heard him talk about anyone like that," Daisy said, a warm smile softening her features. Her eyes, though gentle, held a spark of something more.

Kevin's heart skipped a beat as he met Daisy's gaze. Their encounter in Oceancrest City had shifted things between them, creating an unspoken tension. He couldn't seem to think around her, his mind constantly drifting to inappropriate places.

Daisy felt it, too. She'd ached to visit him since learning he was at the sanatorium, but fear of revealing her true feelings held her back. She'd been tormented by vivid dreams of him, injured and bleeding, waking her husband with her cries. Thankfully, Oliver, half-asleep, had assumed she was calling his name and comforted her, adding another layer of guilt to her already conflicted heart.

When Oliver mentioned visiting the sanatorium, she'd hesitated, then used Laura and a visit to her father, Malcolm, as a cover. The drive had been filled with memories of Kevin, and seeing him now, safe and well, brought an overwhelming sense of relief.

Just then, Oliver emerged, beaming. "Daisy, what a coincidence! Everyone's here. Let's all have lunch together."

"Sounds lovely, honey," Daisy replied, her eyes flicking to Kevin, who was chatting with Laura, a pang of jealousy tightening her chest.

They gathered for lunch in a private room at the sanatorium cafeteria. Malcolm, as the senior member, sat at the head of the table, Oliver and Daisy to his right, Laura and Kevin to his left, with Natalie, Vanessa, Audrey, and Alissa at the far end.

Laura, thrilled to see Kevin after a few days, whispered to him non-stop but noticed his flushed face and fidgeting. "Kevin, are you okay? You look a little feverish."

"Uh, yeah, fine. Just…warm," Kevin stammered, trying to ignore Vanessa's hand, which had somehow found its way under the table and was now toying with his cock. He glanced at her, but she was deep in conversation with Alissa, seemingly oblivious.

Alissa knew Vanessa was angling for a position at the City Education Bureau. Unlike Vanessa, Alissa wasn't interested in playing politics. She knew she could advance on her own merits.

Daisy was talking with Audrey, Oliver occasionally chiming in, each lost in their own thoughts.

Natalie, feeling a bit like an outsider and seeing Malcolm largely ignored, struck up a conversation with him. Her natural charm soon had him laughing and engaged.

Malcolm was delighted to hear about Natalie's plans for a patriotic tourism site in Westbrook Village and related school programs. "Excellent! Patriotism is crucial, especially with the influx of foreign influences. They're trying to subtly change our values, targeting our youth. I fear they'll forget the sacrifices that built this nation. I fear we won't be able to face those who gave their lives for our freedom." His voice cracked, and tears welled in his eyes.

Laura squeezed his arm. "Grandpa, don't worry. We're patriotic. We won't let you down. We'll honor the legacy of the revolutionaries and make our country even stronger."

Kevin grinned. "That's right! We'll make our country the strongest in the world, and then we'll bring peace to everyone!"

Malcolm chuckled, pointing at Kevin, momentarily speechless. Natalie, however, watched Kevin with a glimmer of admiration in her eyes. His youthful idealism was infectious. Vanessa, meanwhile, had withdrawn her hand, discreetly licking the residue from her fingers.

The meal ended on a high note. Suddenly, Jacob appeared, wine glass in hand, making the rounds. When he reached Natalie, he poured her a generous amount from a decanter and downed two ounces himself in one gulp. Natalie recognized the gesture of respect and returned it, clinking glasses with him. She had a feeling she might need Jacob's help in the future.
