Chapter 398: Dinner Party
Audrey followed Lance and Trevor out of the apartment building when a graceful figure emerged from behind a large tree. She walked up to Lance with a smile and said, "Professor, hello."
Lance, engrossed in conversation with Audrey, turned at the sound of the voice to see a charming woman standing before him. With captivating eyes and a graceful demeanor, it was Vanessa. He furrowed his brow slightly and asked, "Mr. Jones, what are you doing here?"
"Professor, I wanted to visit you, but I didn't want to disturb you, so I waited here," Vanessa said timidly, looking quite charming. Today, Vanessa was dressed modestly in a black dress, unlike her usual style, which made Lance find her more pleasing. With Audrey having spoken up for Vanessa earlier, Lance hesitated and finally smiled, saying, "Well, since Mr. Jones is so persistent, let's have lunch together today."
"Thank you, Professor," Vanessa said with a smile, walking beside Lance and naturally linking her arm with his. The gentle brush of her ample bosom against Lance's arm sent a strange sensation through him.
Although Lance felt a slight ripple in his usually calm demeanor, he hesitated to shake off Vanessa's arm, fearing it might seem suspicious. Seeing Vanessa chatting and laughing with him, he decided to let it be.
Feeling triumphant, Vanessa chatted with Lance while casting a provocative glance at Audrey. She thought to herself that even without Audrey's help, she could still catch Lance's attention. Aware that her previous behavior had made Lance somewhat dismissive, Vanessa refrained from overtly flirting, knowing that dealing with a seasoned scholar like Lance was more challenging than the department head, David.
Audrey felt a bit uneasy. She had always known Vanessa to be a woman who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted, but seeing Vanessa shamelessly waiting outside Lance's building and linking arms with him was beyond her expectations.
Trevor also felt awkward. While he didn't find Vanessa appealing, he couldn't deny her ability to leverage her assets. Having faced rejection from Trevor, Vanessa had now turned her attention to Trevor's father, who remained noncommittal, leaving Trevor unable to express his displeasure.
As the four walked towards the entrance, three people emerged from the adjacent building—Angus, Kevin, and Naomi. Seeing Lance and his group, they were taken aback.
"Lance..." Angus hurried over, extending his hands respectfully. "Are you heading out?"
Having been Lance's student at City First High School, Angus showed great humility towards Lance.
"Ah, Angus," Lance shook his hand warmly. "Some teachers from the college are attending a training session, so we're going out for a meal to exchange ideas. Where are you headed?"
"Oh, I have some relatives visiting, so we're going out to eat," Angus replied, glancing at Vanessa and Audrey. Seeing the stunning Audrey, his gaze lingered.
Audrey, who rarely wore makeup, had applied a touch of lipstick for the occasion. Dressed in a white dress, she exuded elegance and grace, standing out with her slender legs and captivating presence, outshining Vanessa.
Audrey was surprised to see Kevin by Angus's side. "Kevin, what are you doing here?"
"Hey, cousin..." Kevin was equally surprised. He hadn't expected to see Audrey so soon and was pleasantly taken aback. "What are you doing here?"
The scene became a bit chaotic as Angus clarified Kevin and Audrey's relationship. With a hearty laugh, Angus suggested they all have a meal together to catch up.
"Great idea! You're the Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Government, after all," Lance chuckled.
Vanessa's heart skipped a beat upon hearing Lance's words. Her seductive eyes couldn't help but linger on Angus. She felt lucky to have encountered such a prominent figure. As the Deputy Secretary, Angus held significant influence, and if she could get close to him, it would be more advantageous than pursuing Lance, the scholarly type.
Angus chose a high-end seafood restaurant near the neighborhood. As they entered, Audrey walked at the back with Kevin, asking about his relationship with Angus. Learning that Kevin was visiting Angus, Audrey couldn't help but roll her eyes and mutter, "I thought you were here to see me. Guess I was mistaken."
Kevin held Audrey's smooth hand, captivated by her beauty and the mature fragrance she exuded. Despite only a week apart, it felt like ages to him. Her words stirred something within him.
