Chapter 1802

"No need, Dad, I'll just grab a bite," Audrey said, noticing how much older Chad looked with his graying hair. It made her sad.

When she and Jason had just started dating, she had visited Birchfield with him during a summer break. Back then, Chad was in great health, with a rosy complexion and a booming voice, moving around energetically. Knowing his son's girlfriend was visiting, he had gone into the mountains to catch some wild chickens and fished in the river, even cooking a meal himself. That trip to Birchfield had solidified Audrey's decision to continue her relationship with Jason. After all, marrying someone wasn't just about the person but also about their family.

"By the way, where's Jason? Did he say when he's coming back?" Chad asked hesitantly.

"Well, he said he had some business in the city and wouldn't be back for a while. He did come back briefly a while ago," Audrey replied.

"What's going on with Jason? He hasn't come back all year, and now he's not even coming home for New Year's," Chad frowned, about to say more when they heard footsteps outside. Caroline came in holding her daughter, followed by Lucas.

During lunch, Audrey watched Caroline's happy family of three, feeling increasingly lonely. Chad noticed but didn't say much, just kept putting food on Audrey's plate.

After lunch, Caroline put her daughter to sleep, and Lucas left to help someone in the village build a house. Audrey stayed with Chad in the living room, chatting.

Suddenly, Chad said, "Audrey, let's go for a walk."

"Okay, Dad," Audrey replied, a bit puzzled but not daring to ask more. She followed Chad out of the yard, along a path to the woods on the west side of the village, where the mountains began.

Chad stopped and pondered, "Audrey, what's going on with Jason? Are you hiding something from me? Why doesn't he want to come back for New Year's? Did you two have a fight?"

"No, Dad, we're fine," Audrey quickly shook her head, explaining, "Please don't worry."

"How can I not worry?" Chad sighed heavily. "I know Jason. He's always been ambitious and restless. You two were doing well in Skyview City, then you suddenly moved back to Harmony County. That was already a bit much. You became a high school teacher, and he had a stable job. Both of you were better off than Lucas working in the village. But then he insisted on going to the city. You've only been married a few years, and he's never home, leaving you alone. I feel like slapping some sense into him."

Audrey's pent-up grievances surged, her eyes reddening as she choked up, "Dad, please don't be mad. Jason just wants to earn more money. I understand him. It's not easy for him out there."

"Why are you still defending him?" Chad frowned. "Audrey, you can't let him keep doing this. He's been in the city for years. This can't go on. You're 26 now, right? In a few years, you'll be 30, and you don't even have kids yet. This isn't right. Tell Jason if he doesn't come back, you should divorce him! I won't acknowledge him as my son!"

Chad spoke passionately, suddenly coughing violently. Audrey quickly helped him, patting his back and comforting him, "Dad, please don't be angry. I've talked to Jason. He has a big project now that could earn a lot of money. That's why he's tied up. Once it's done, I'll persuade him. You just focus on getting better and stop worrying about us."

She couldn't continue, tears streaming down her face. If only Jason were as understanding as Chad, they wouldn't be in this situation.

"Good girl, don't cry. No matter what happens, I'll support you," Chad said, seeing Audrey's tears. He instinctively wanted to wipe them away, but felt it was inappropriate, so he gently patted her shoulder.

Audrey thought of the grievances she'd endured, the conflicts with Jason, his infidelity, and her affair with Kevin. Overwhelmed by emotions, she felt like she was back with her father, her tense nerves relaxing. She couldn't help but lean into Chad's arms, sobbing uncontrollably.

At first, Chad comforted her, but soon he felt something was off. Audrey's tall, curvy body pressed against him, her warmth palpable. Especially her full, firm breasts rubbing against his chest.

This wasn't right. Chad's wife had passed away years ago, and he had raised his two sons alone, never remarrying. He hadn't thought about sex in years. But now, holding Audrey's vibrant body, his dormant desires seemed to awaken. His hands on her shoulders trembled, feeling the blood rushing downward, a heat in his lower abdomen, and even his long-dormant cock stirring, like a hibernating turtle slowly raising its head.

"Ah!" Chad quickly let go, but Audrey was still crying against him. He looked around, relieved they were in a secluded spot. If anyone saw them like this, rumors would spread. He regretted bringing her out here.

He had wanted to talk to Audrey privately, away from Caroline, but now it had turned into this. Audrey's breasts rubbing against his chest made him feel hot and sweaty, his cock slowly erecting.

Chad grew anxious. If Audrey noticed his condition, she'd think he was being inappropriate. But he didn't dare move, fearing his erection would press against her. How had he ended up with a physical reaction after all these years? It was embarrassing.

Audrey, unaware of the trouble she was causing Chad, remained lost in her sorrow, unable to stop crying. Perhaps she had been too repressed, and now, finding an outlet, all her years of frustration, pain, guilt, and helplessness erupted.

After about ten minutes, Audrey finally stopped crying. Seeing Chad's chest wet with her tears, she blushed, wiping her eyes, "Dad, I'm sorry. I just felt a bit overwhelmed. I'm okay now."

"Crying helps," Chad said, feeling sad for Audrey. She was beautiful, with a great figure, and a teacher in the city. Everyone in the village envied his son for marrying her.

But Jason didn't appreciate her, running off to the city and leaving Audrey alone. Luckily, she lived in the city. If she were in the village, many bachelors would be after her. Even when Lucas was away at the mine, some villagers tried to get close to her. This was common in rural areas, and Audrey was too attractive. Even if Jason were around, he might not feel secure, let alone with them living apart.

Though Chad could comfort Audrey, he couldn't replace his son's role. A woman needed a man's care, working together by day and sharing a bed at night to build a relationship. Without a man to rely on, someone else might take advantage, and his foolish son would end up with a cheating wife.

Thinking this, Chad felt even more troubled. He couldn't help but say, "Audrey, living alone in the city must be lonely. Caroline has moved to the city, too. How about having her stay with you for company? You can look out for each other."

Audrey understood Chad's concern, fearing she'd be unfaithful. If she were a more assertive daughter-in-law, she might argue. But feeling guilty about her affair with Kevin, she blushed, thinking of their illicit relationship. She didn't know how to refuse, stammering.

Chad grew more suspicious, wondering if Audrey had already done something wrong. Seeing her silence, he decided to be direct, sighing, "Audrey, it's not that I'm overthinking. People can be harsh. With Jason away, you're a young woman alone, and people will gossip. Having Caroline with you is for your own good. A woman's reputation is important, especially for a teacher. You understand that, right?"

"Yes, Dad, I understand," Audrey said, feeling cornered. She had just gotten a new house and planned to spend time with Kevin. If Caroline moved in, Kevin wouldn't agree. But if she refused, Chad would be more suspicious. She had no choice but to bring up Kevin, "Actually, I'm not living alone. My aunt's child is staying with me."

"What? Your aunt's child?" Chad was surprised. "You have relatives in Harmony County?"

Audrey explained her relationship with Bethany, "My aunt is busy with her business in the city, so she asked Kevin to stay with me. I'm helping him with his studies. Jason met Kevin when he was home and felt reassured knowing Kevin was there."
