Chapter 1359

Daisy let out a soft moan of contentment, her head falling back as she kissed Kevin deeply. He slipped his tongue into her mouth, exploring, teasing. Daisy gasped, her lips closing around his tongue. It wasn't their first kiss, but their relationship was complicated, even more so than his relationship with Audrey. Daisy wasn't a blood relative, but she was Laura's mother.

The thought that if he and Laura ever got married, Daisy would be his mother-in-law, added a thrilling, taboo edge to the kiss. Their tongues tangled, their bodies pressed close. The sensation was intoxicating. Daisy had been a dancer, and though she no longer performed, she kept her figure toned with regular yoga. She was leaner than most women her age, but with beautiful curves.

Suddenly, Daisy pushed him away, breathing hard. "Kevin," she said, her voice trembling. "I can… be with you, but you can't… you can't think less of me. I'm not… I'm not that kind of woman." Her eyes welled up, and tears began to spill down her cheeks.

Seeing her vulnerability, Kevin felt a rush of tenderness. He gently kissed her tears away. "Daisy," he said, his voice earnest, his face flushed. "You're one of the people I respect most in the world. I would never look down on you. If anyone ever said anything bad about you, I'd punch them." He kissed her cheeks, her neck, her lips.

"Wait," Daisy said, putting a finger to his lips. "There are some things we need to be clear about. I'm Laura's mother. Whatever happens between you and Laura, this stays between us. Understand?"

"Daisy, I promise," Kevin said quickly. He understood her concern. He'd be an idiot to tell anyone about this. "I swear. If I ever tell anyone, may I be…"

"It's okay, Kevin," Daisy interrupted gently. "I'm not asking you to swear an oath. Just be smart." She paused. "There's something else. I'm agreeing to this mostly because I don't want you and Laura doing anything too soon. It's not good for either of you. It'll affect your studies. Until you graduate high school,  I can take care of your… needs. But after you go to college, this stops. Okay?"

"Okay, Daisy," Kevin agreed. Alissa had said the same thing when they first got together. He hadn't expected this to be a long-term arrangement anyway.

"Third," Daisy continued, her voice serious. "You're still a teenager. Too much isn't good. Once a week. Maximum. And no more, you know… by yourself. Got it?"

"Got it," Kevin said, doing a quick mental calculation. Alissa, Audrey, Natalie, Grace, once a week with Daisy would fit in just fine.

"Fourth," Daisy pressed on. "Even though this is happening, nothing changes between us in public. Especially not in front of Laura. If she suspects anything, I won't forgive you."

Kevin nodded. "Understood."

"Fifth. Laura's father had a vasectomy. I'm not on birth control. We have to use protection. Every single time. If I get pregnant, you're in serious trouble." Daisy's expression was grave. This was non-negotiable. She remembered the early days of her marriage to Oliver, sneaking back to their dorm room for quickies during the workday. She'd been so reckless then. Getting pregnant with Kevin's child would be a scandal that would rock Harmony County. She'd never live it down.

"Sixth," she went on, "keep your grades up. Seventh, exercise, don't stay up late playing video games, but don't just study all the time either. Laura said you like basketball. That's good. Stay active, but don't overdo it. You'll get injured. Sprained ankles are no fun. And you'll get all sweaty and catch a cold."

By this point, Kevin's erection had softened considerably. This was starting to feel less like seduction and more like a contract negotiation. Daisy had more rules than the school handbook. Even Audrey, with her strict moral code, wasn't this demanding.

But he knew that if he wanted to be with a woman this beautiful, he had to play the game. He'd worked hard to win Audrey over. From his freshman year, all through sophomore year, almost three semesters. He'd gone from an average student to class president and head of the propaganda department. He'd driven Quentin away, put Ivan in his place, even slept with Ivan's mother. All to win Audrey's heart.

Compared to Alissa, Kimberly, Vanessa, Grace, Evelyn… winning Audrey had been a long and arduous campaign. But the harder the battle, the sweeter the victory. And Audrey, with her stunning looks and incredible body, was worth it. Besides, it hadn't really cost him anything. Just time and effort. Audrey had probably spent more money on him than he'd spent on her. Was he a gigolo?

Maybe. But he didn't care. He was a student, her cousin. It was okay to need her support. Audrey only cared that he pleased her. Unlike Vanessa and Natalie, those scheming social climbers. They weren't interested in him, they were interested in what he could do for them. He had connections. Angus, the Director of Education in Starfall Town, was a powerful man. He controlled the fate of many teachers. He had serious pull in the education system.

Teachers, even from prestigious schools, treated him with respect. Teachers from rural schools… well, they'd probably throw themselves at Angus's feet, grateful for the attention, however degrading. That was the reality.

And then there was Armando, the County Executive. He was a force to be reckoned with. Not as powerful as the governor, but in Harmony County, his word was law. Most local officials were terrified of him. He could make or break their careers. He'd cleaned house when he took office, firing several incompetent officials, causing a major shakeup. The heads of all the major agencies - the Bureau of Reclamation, the County Treasury Office, the Public Security Bureau, the Department of Housing and Urban Development - they all answered to him.

Everyone knew Armando was the real power in Harmony County. Maybe the mayor was his equal, but no one else. Armando had resources, a powerful network. It wasn't just one man you were dealing with, it was a whole system, an organization. No matter how strong you were, you couldn't fight an organization. The will of the organization had to be implemented. No matter how capable you were, you had to submit to the dictates of the organization. That was the unspoken truth. That was how Armando had risen to power, how he'd become County Executive of Harmony County. For the next few years, what he said went.

The meetings, the votes, those were just for show. Nobody really cared. And Kevin was on the inside. He was practically family. He and Fiona were so close, they were like best friends. No wonder Ivan was so jealous. He felt like Kevin had stolen something from him. But that wasn't fair. Fiona had never been interested in Ivan. There was nothing to steal. Ivan was just making excuses. The leader of the delinquents couldn't afford to lose face.

"Daisy," Kevin said, his arm starting to ache from holding it up. He couldn't exactly argue with her. "I'll agree to anything. My arm's getting tired."

Daisy realized she'd been rambling. "Oh, Kevin," she said, a seductive smile spreading across her face. She reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Be patient. Now, come here."

Kevin grinned. He leaned in, ready for his reward. He was going to make this happen. Tonight. No more delays.

"Ow… Kevin… easy…" Daisy gasped, her head tilting back, a flicker of pain crossing her features. It felt a little like the first time Laura had latched onto her nipple. A sharp, sweet pain.
