Chapter 940 Waves of Jealousy
Is Laura coming back?
Kevin felt a bit overwhelmed. While he was technically dating Laura now, his heart belonged to his cousin Audrey. What would Audrey think if she found out he was going to pick up Laura?
However, soon Kevin saw an opportunity to tease his cousin and quickly messaged Laura, informing her that he would be at the airport to pick her and Daisy up.
Subsequently, Kevin stood up and went to the living room. He walked to the door of his mother's bedroom and knocked. Bethany's voice came from inside, "What's up?"
"Mom, a classmate of mine is returning from abroad this afternoon with a lot of luggage. She asked me to pick her up," Kevin intentionally spoke loudly so Audrey could overhear.
The bedroom door soon opened, and Bethany stood there, looking puzzled. "Which classmate needs you to pick them up?"
"It's a girl from our class, Laura," Kevin said with a grin. "Mom, you met her at the clothing store last time."
"Oh, the principal's daughter," Bethany immediately remembered. Impressed by Laura, she turned to Kevin and asked, "Kevin, what's your relationship with Laura now?"
"It's nothing, just good friends. Mom, don't ask too much, just give me some money for a taxi," Kevin shrugged, looking embarrassed.
Bethany understood immediately. It seemed there was more than just a simple friendship between Kevin and Laura. However, she didn't object to them interacting. Hearing about Laura being the study committee head and excelling academically, she thought maybe Kevin being around such an excellent girl could motivate him to study better. She took out two hundred dollars and handed them to Kevin, instructing, "Go on. It’s hot these days, take care of yourself, don't get heatstroke. Call me if anything happens."
"I got it, Mom." Glancing back at his sister sitting on the bed with a phone in hand, seemingly unresponsive, Kevin felt a bit disappointed. He stuffed the money into his pocket, hurriedly left the room.
After Kevin left, Bethany returned to the bed and sighed to Audrey, "Kids these days are different from when we were young. We were happy just to go to the city with our parents; no one dared to talk to boys. Girls would huddle together in groups and chat. Kevin and this girl, Laura, seem odd. Do you know Laura well at school? What kind of girl is she?"
"I'm not sure; Laura is in Class 57. We don't interact much. Mrs. Garcia probably knows more," Audrey replied nonchalantly. Feeling a sudden discomfort, she remembered seeing Kevin and Laura talking amiably together, almost like a couple. While she comforted herself that they were just getting along as classmates, hearing Kevin was going to the airport to pick up Laura made her feel a sense of loss as if something of hers was being taken away. Despite her inner turmoil, Audrey maintained a pretense of normalcy while discussing aimlessly with Bethany.
Kevin took a taxi to Starfall Town Airport and arrived around three o'clock. With Laura's flight still an hour away, he leisurely strolled around the terminal. Spotting a flower shop, he had a sudden impulse to buy a bouquet for Laura.
Entering the flower shop for the first time, Kevin was momentarily overwhelmed by the array of flowers. Feeling a bit awkward, he said, "Um, I want to buy some flowers?"
"Are you here to pick someone up? Are the flowers for an elder or someone your age?" The girl in her twenties approached, with her bright eyes twinkling like machine guns inquiring rapidly, "Is it for a man or a woman, around what age?"
Scratching his head, Kevin hesitantly replied, "Do you need to ask so many questions? I just want some flowers."
Seeing Kevin's discomfort, the girl quickly explained, "Sir, don't misunderstand. I'm not prying into your personal life. It's just our store policy. Giving flowers is all about the meaning; if it's not suitable, you'd waste money and cause inconvenience. And you might blame me in the end."
Understanding, Kevin pondered and said, "For a girlfriend, she just started high school."
"Oh, just started high school, so you are a high school student too." The girl looked surprised, examining Kevin. "With your height, I thought you were in college. You are much younger than me. High school students are impressive these days, already starting to date."
Amused by the girl's teasing, Kevin felt a bit uncomfortable. Seeing his unease, the girl hastily suggested, "For a girlfriend, roses. Thirty dollars each, symbolizing dedication. Let me add some baby's breath and wrap it up for you. Your girlfriend will love it."
Though the price was several times higher than at regular flower shops, it was the airport after all—where even a bowl of noodles could cost forty or fifty dollars. Kevin nodded as the girl skillfully packaged the roses, the vibrant petals accented by baby's breath, looking charming and elegant. Just as he was about to leave after paying, he remembered Daisy and Laura's return. It seemed impolite to only give Laura flowers, so he asked, "By the way, what's a suitable flower for an older female?"
"Carnations are suitable for an older woman, also thirty dollars each." The girl swiftly wrapped a carnation for Kevin. In total, the two bouquets cost seventy dollars, with ten dollars for wrapping. To Kevin's surprise, he anticipated spending much more. Feeling embarrassed, he handed the girl a hundred dollar bill, took the two bouquets, and left. Watching Kevin depart with fifty dollars in hand, the girl blushed, wondering which lucky girl had such a handsome and generous boyfriend.
Waiting at the airport pick-up area for half an hour, Kevin eventually saw a group of passengers approaching. His eyes scanned the crowd until he spotted Daisy and Laura. Excitedly, he waved at them.
Laura noticed Kevin and hurried over to him. With rosy cheeks, she looked very alluring in a white t-shirt and jeans, her slender waist and perky bottom attracting eyes. Her legs were long and shapely, exuding the typical vitality of a teenage girl. The only regret was her breasts hadn't fully developed, two small mounds looking cute and delicate.
Kevin handed a bouquet of roses to Laura, saying with a grin, "Laura, this is for you."
"Wow, it's so beautiful." Laura took the roses with a thrilled expression in her black and white eyes, smelled them shyly, and looked at Kevin, "Thank you, Kevin."
Watching the blush spread on Laura's fair face and the blossoming shyness of a teenage girl, Kevin couldn't help but be moved. He deliberately grabbed her hand and said teasingly, "Thank you? How?"
Laura was taken aback by Kevin's insinuating gaze and seemed to remember something. Blushing even more, she stomped her foot and bit her lip, scolding, "Kevin, you are so annoying, always teasing people."
At that moment, Daisy approached, wearing a light grey fitted dress, her dark hair pinned up to reveal a fair neck. Her ample and firm breasts swayed subtly with her movements, her curvaceous waist and hips alluring and seductive. Two snow-white, lustrous legs extended from the skirt, exuding the full charm of a woman.
Seeing Daisy's noble and mature beauty, Kevin's heart pounded. In just a few days' absence, Daisy seemed increasingly enchanting and elegant, emanating an innate aura of a sophisticated woman. He dared not harbor any profane thoughts.
Noticing Laura holding a rose, Daisy smiled lightly and said, "Kevin, you gave this to Laura, right? Laura, so far away, why did you make him come all this way to pick us up? We could have just taken a taxi."
"It's fine, Mrs. Daisy, I have free time now," Kevin quickly presented the carnation to Daisy, "Mrs. Daisy, this is for you."
"Even for me." Daisy, delighted by the exquisitely wrapped flowers, showed a hint of surprise. Taking the carnation, she glanced at Kevin, pleased that he was trying to please her. She felt more satisfied with Kevin—if he became her son-in-law in the future, he would surely treat Laura well.
Seeing Daisy's delighted expression resembling Laura's, Kevin secretly rejoiced. It seemed that his money was well spent. Despite Daisy being in her forties, any woman would appreciate flowers. Hey, that's called killing two birds with one stone.
After exchanging pleasantries, the trio left the airport and took a taxi back home. Getting off at an expensive residential area, Kevin carried two suitcases and chatted happily with Daisy and Laura as they entered the gate. Suddenly, Kimberly walked towards them, causing Kevin a moment of unease.
"Hello, Kimberly," Laura greeted Kimberly with a smile as she approached.
"Oh, it's Laura," Kimberly glanced at the trio and then at Kevin. As their eyes met, memories of their passionate night flashed through her mind. Quickly averting her gaze, Kimberly asked with a forced smile, "Are you guys going on a trip?"
"Yes, my mom took me to Vienna for a trip. We just got back today," Laura said cheerfully. "Kimberly, are you going out?"
"Yeah, I'm going to buy some groceries," Kimberly replied distractedly, greeting Daisy before walking past Kevin without acknowledging him. Kevin felt extremely awkward trying to smile back at her.
After Kimberly left, the trio continued walking inside. Laura leaned over to Kevin and whispered, "Kevin, why do I feel like Kimberly has something against you? She didn't even acknowledge you; did you do something wrong to her?"
"How could that be?" Kevin's heart skipped a beat, quickly asserting, "I've never met Kimberly during my break. Please don't falsely accuse me."
Seeing Kevin's nervousness, Laura teased, "You seem tense. I'm just kidding." Laura chuckled, "I guess it's because you did poorly in English last semester. Be careful, maybe Kimberly will make things difficult for you next semester."
Although Laura was joking, Kevin felt a chill run down his spine. Based on what he had done to Kimberly, he wouldn't put it past her to tear him limb from limb. Knowing women's sinister tendencies, Kimberly might use the situation to exact revenge on him. Kevin regretted seeking Kimberly's help with his coursework.
Seeing Kevin's unease, Laura tugged at his arm, puzzled. "Kevin, what are you thinking? Do you really have feelings for Kimberly?"
Suddenly, Daisy turned back and said, "Laura, Kevin, hurry up. Save the secrets for home; I'm tired from walking so much."
