Chapter 1751
"How did you come here?"
Seeing Audrey in a white down jacket in front of him, Abel was delighted. He thought he wouldn't see her again until school started, but here she was at the ski resort.
"I came to soak in the hot springs with my colleagues and decided to ski as well," Audrey said with a smile. "Why are you working as a ski instructor here?"
"Ms. Johnson, my family is from West Stream Town," Abel quickly explained. He worked as a ski instructor at the resort, earning a hundred dollars a day. By the end of winter break, he could save up a few thousand dollars to help with expenses and save for tuition and living costs.
"Abel, you're something," Audrey sighed, feeling a pang of emotion. They say children of poor families become independent earlier, but who would have thought they would face life's challenges so soon?
"Ms. Johnson, have you skied before?" Abel asked.
"No," Audrey shook her head. Due to her large chest, she had always been averse to sports. She rarely participated in school sports events, and even a casual run would leave her chest sore for a long time. Swimming seemed more suitable, but Harmony County didn't have a swimming pool, and although West Stream Town did, it was too far away for a convenient visit.
"Actually, skiing isn't difficult. It's all about balancing your weight," Abel instructed Audrey on how to walk and adjust her balance. Then he took her to the conveyor belt to prepare for her first run down the slope.
But Audrey hesitated at the sight of the long snowy slope and couldn't bring herself to slide down. Abel said helplessly, "Ms. Johnson, it's okay. Even if you fall, it's not a big deal. Just go ahead and slide down."
"I can't, I'm scared," Audrey said, watching several girls ahead fall and scream loudly, making her even more pale with fear. She grabbed Abel's arm and pleaded, "Abel, let's forget it. I don't want to ski."
"Ms. Johnson, how about this?" Suddenly, Abel had an idea. He stood in front, allowing Audrey to stand behind him and hold onto his waist as they slid down together.
"Alright," Audrey hesitated for a moment, feeling like this arrangement was more acceptable. She stood behind Abel, lightly gripping the sides of his jacket with her hands, trying not to get too close.
"Ms. Johnson, let's go," Abel pushed off with his knees, slowly sliding down the slope, picking up speed, with the wind whistling in their ears.
"Slow down, Abel," Audrey closed her eyes in fear, holding onto Abel's waist tightly, forgetting all sense of reserve in that moment.
"Ms. Johnson, you can open your eyes now," Abel felt Audrey still clinging to him and said with a smile.
Audrey opened her eyes and realized she was hugging Abel. Blushing, she quickly let go, looking particularly charming.
"Ms. Johnson, how does it feel? Not so scary, right?"
"It's okay," Audrey nodded lightly, realizing it wasn't as terrifying as she had imagined.
"Let's go, slide a few more times and you'll get used to it," Abel said, leading Audrey back to the conveyor belt. After a few more slides, Audrey became less afraid and dared to open her eyes, gradually experiencing the joy of skiing.
Audrey noticed Alissa and Grace also had a 16 or 17-year-old boy as their instructor, having a great time. She thought the owner of this ski resort was quite savvy, assigning male instructors to female guests. Luckily, she had Abel; otherwise, she might have found the close physical contact uncomfortable.
Seeing Audrey getting the hang of it, Abel let her slide down alone. At first, Audrey fell a few times, but soon she gained experience and could slide a distance without falling, waving excitedly at Abel.
Soon, Audrey was sliding down the slope again, catching the attention of a few young men nearby. One of them, a man with long hair, suddenly rushed towards Audrey, seemingly trying to get her attention.
Audrey paled in fear, watching the man about to collide with her. Seeing this, Abel, who was observing from behind, hurried over and shielded Audrey, colliding with the man and both falling into the snow.
"Abel, are you okay?" Worried, Audrey took off her skis and awkwardly walked over to help Abel up.
The man with long hair was helped up by his friends and angrily scolded, "You jerk, are you blind? Did you intentionally bump into me? You almost broke my leg, pay up!"
His friends chimed in, demanding compensation from Abel for the damages. Struggling to stand, Audrey helped Abel up and frowned, saying, "You bumped into us first. If he hadn't intervened, you would have hit me. You're the one at fault here."
"You can't speak to a beauty like that," the man with long hair eyed Audrey's stunning beauty, her clear and alluring eyes captivating him. Feeling increasingly itchy, he grinned and said, "If I had hit you, I would pay up. But the fact is, he hit me, so it's only right for him to compensate me. Don't you agree?"
His argument seemed reasonable, leaving Audrey momentarily speechless. After all, Abel had bumped into the man while trying to protect her. If the man insisted, it could become troublesome. Reluctantly, she asked, "Alright, how much do you want me to pay?"
"Since you're so reasonable, I'll ask for less. Fifty thousand dollars!" The man with long hair extended a hand, wiggling his five fingers.
"This is extortion!" Abel couldn't hold back. "Ms. Johnson, don't listen to him. Let's call the police."
"Call the police? Sure," the man with long hair remained unfazed, even laughing recklessly. "Or should I call the police for you?"
One of his friends chuckled, "You guys don't know, his old man is the chief of the West Stream Town police station. I suggest you cough up the money."
Audrey's face paled upon hearing this. No wonder the man was so arrogant; his father was a cop. She had wanted to settle things peacefully, but the demanded amount was outrageous, clearly a blatant attempt at exploitation.
Seeing Audrey and Abel intimidated, the man with long hair suggested, "Since you can't pay up, how about this, beautiful? If you spend the day with me, the money will be waived. How about that?"
As the man's lecherous gaze swept over her chest, Audrey's heart tightened. He had ill intentions, possibly targeting her earlier by deliberately bumping into her.
"Ms. Johnson, let's go," Abel's face flushed with anger. "We can go to the county and report this. I don't believe his father can cover everything up!"
"Go? Where do you think you're going?" The man with long hair gestured, and his friends surrounded Abel and Audrey. His expression darkened as he said, "Don't disrespect me. West Stream Town is my territory, and I'm in charge here!"
Just then, Grace and Alissa arrived. After learning the situation, Grace coldly glanced at the man with long hair and said, "Stop causing trouble. This ski resort is huge; you can ski anywhere. Don't think I don't know what you're up to. Look at your behavior before pointing fingers."
The man with long hair's eyes lit up upon seeing Grace. Although she wasn't as alluring as Audrey, her tall stature and athletic build were captivating. He ogled Grace's full and perky buttocks, grinning suggestively, "If you want to help her, how about you entertain me instead? If you please me, I might even give you a tip."
"You jerk!" Grace's eyebrows furrowed, teeth clenched, and she didn't hold back, "Stop embarrassing yourself here. If you want to play, go play with your mom. Get lost!"
"You bitch!"
Arrogant due to his father's influence, the man had never been spoken to like this before. He rushed to slap Grace, but she lifted her long leg and kicked him hard, sending him tumbling down the slope, crashing into the railing at the foot of the mountain.
The surrounding men were stunned by Grace's boldness, unsure how to react. Alissa and Audrey were worried; the situation had escalated.
"What's going on?" Grant and Kimberly approached, learning the details. Kimberly was also furious, turning to Grant and saying, "Grant, what's wrong with the West Stream Town government? The son of a police chief dares to bully others. Are you going to do something about this?"
Seeing Audrey, Alissa, and the others looking at him, Grant felt stuck. His authority was less than that of the police chief.
However, since he had brought Audrey and the others here, he didn't want to disappoint them. Suddenly, he thought of Kevin and dialed the police chief's number on his phone.
