Chapter 1799

"What's so interesting? It's disgusting," Audrey frowned and scolded. "Why don't you just throw it in the bathroom?"

"Audrey, the internet says that men produce billions of sperm in one ejaculation," Kevin continued to examine the bag of semen curiously. "With so many sperm, but only one can fertilize the egg, it's unfair to the rest of them."

"It's just how the world works," Audrey said with a slight smile. "It's like going to college. There are so many students nationwide, but only a few can go to college. The ones who didn't make it worked hard too, but others worked harder, and hard work alone isn't always enough. Sometimes talent and luck play a big role."

"What's the point of working so hard for those who get eliminated?" Kevin asked. "Wouldn't it be easier to just give up from the start, so you don't have to endure the pain of failure?"

"Survival of the fittest, it's nature's law," Audrey pondered. "We don't work hard to compete with others. There will always be someone better than you. We work hard to make ourselves better, to be better today than yesterday, and better tomorrow than today. Otherwise, life would be a monotonous repetition, and society wouldn't progress. We'd still be picking fruits from trees. There will always be someone brave enough to come down from the tree and choose a new way of life. The meaning of learning isn't just to score high, it's to understand the world better, to adapt better. Failing after trying hard is different from failing from the start. At least you won't have regrets."

"Audrey, you're so wise," Kevin sincerely praised. "Your speaking skills are fit for a principal, you're wasting your talent as a teacher."

"What I said is nothing special, much worse than Mr. Jones," Audrey said lightly. She realized that what she said was just clichés and official talk. She had heard Oliver speak a few times, and he spoke off the cuff, in plain language, yet captivating, keeping people engaged without anyone falling asleep.

When Audrey mentioned Oliver, Kevin felt uncomfortable, especially thinking about how Oliver almost tarnished Audrey last semester. Audrey was great in every way, but too naive and kind, not knowing how to deal with these scheming men like Quentin and Christopher.

"He's not that great," Kevin scoffed. "Just holding meetings and drinking with people at night. I could do that as a principal too."

"You don't know what you're talking about, Mr. Jones has it tough," Audrey sighed. She used to see leaders the same way, but after a deep conversation with Oliver, she realized how tough it is to be a principal. The pressure teachers face is visible, but the pressure on a principal is invisible. Just the issue of the faculty apartments is not something an ordinary person can handle. Without the previous incidents, Oliver would have been the perfect principal in her eyes.

Seeing Audrey defend Oliver like that made Kevin even more upset. He couldn't understand why Audrey was ignoring Oliver's obvious intentions. Was she blind to his sinister motives, or was she being deceived by Oliver's charm? Middle-aged men are good at reading people, and Audrey was just too innocent. The more he spoke, the more he felt like he was meddling too much. He lay on the bed, feeling gloomy, thinking about his relationship with Audrey. Audrey was great in every way, but too kind, unable to be tough on others, leading to her being entangled time and time again. If Audrey could be like Grace, no one would dare to bully her. Or like Cynthia, adept at handling situations, no one could take advantage of her. Or like Daisy and Maurice, with prestigious status, no one would dare to provoke them.

But Audrey was so beautiful, with an incredibly attractive figure. She was like a defenseless lamb surrounded by wolves. She couldn't protect herself alone. Like when Quentin kidnapped Audrey last time, if Natalie hadn't intervened and provided information, he wouldn't have been able to locate her. If they had waited for the police to investigate, Audrey might have been assaulted by that jerk long before. Just thinking about it made him shudder. No, I must strengthen myself as soon as possible to better protect Audrey. Kevin started thinking about it. He didn't have to worry about the troubles in his daily life now. The captain of the criminal police, Mark, had a good relationship with him, and Daisy was there to help. Not to mention the support from Maurice.

If anyone dared to make a move on Audrey openly, he would use all his power to make sure the person met a gruesome end. Despite being just a high school student, if someone touched his sore spot, he had astonishing power at his disposal. At the very least, he could easily get someone like Edgar fired.

Currently, Kevin's biggest concern was two people. One was Oliver, the principal of Sunset Valley High School. He appeared respectable and had a strong deceptive quality. Audrey still hadn't seen through his true nature, and Oliver had too much contact with Audrey. Kevin couldn't guard against it. Unless Audrey left Sunset Valley High School or Oliver was replaced.

Getting rid of Oliver would be difficult. After all, he was a senior official. At least someone like Armando would have to speak up. Although he had a good relationship with Maurice, Kevin didn't think he had the charm to convince Armando to dismiss Oliver from his position as principal. Unless he could hypnotize Maurice. If he had that ability, he might as well hypnotize Oliver and make him resign.

Moreover, Oliver was Laura's father, so Kevin couldn't do something unethical. The only option left was to have Audrey leave Sunset Valley High School. When they were in Starfall Town, Angus had suggested that Audrey teach at Maple Grove High School. But Angus seemed interested in Audrey, and he was single. If Audrey went to Maple Grove High School, she would have more contact with Angus. If Audrey were swayed by Angus and divorced Jason to marry him, Kevin would be devastated. So, this option was also not viable.

Fortunately, this semester, Oliver seemed to have stopped any inappropriate behavior towards Audrey. Audrey hadn't complained either. Perhaps Oliver had some reservations.

The second person Kevin worried about was the elusive midnight pervert, a legendary figure in Harmony County who had been active for several years, tarnishing many women.

Last time, Kevin had almost caught the guy, but he had managed to escape. The police still hadn't found him. Kevin couldn't sleep well until that guy was caught. He always felt like the midnight pervert was watching Audrey in the shadows, ready to strike at any moment.

He decided to call the captain of the criminal police, Mark.

"Kevin, what made you call me? Do you have another lead on a crime?" Mark joked. Kevin was his lucky charm, providing crucial information for capturing criminals twice.

"Mark, I want to ask you something," Kevin said. "Did you guys catch the midnight pervert?"

"Ah, about that..." Mark sounded frustrated. As the captain of the criminal police in Harmony County, he was quite capable and had solved many major cases over the years. But they still hadn't caught the midnight pervert, which was a blow to his reputation. Every year at the end-of-year public security conference, he was criticized. He had put a lot of effort into repeatedly investigating.

But the victims of such cases felt ashamed and didn't report it immediately. Moreover, the midnight pervert had a strong counter-surveillance awareness, making it difficult to solve the case.

"Kevin, we're working on tracking down this person. If you have any clues, please let me know promptly so we can catch him soon," Mark said.

"Okay." Kevin hung up and then called Natalie.

"Darling, missing me already?" Natalie's voice was seductive over the phone, enough to arouse desire in any man.

"Natalie, do you know about the midnight pervert?" Kevin was also captivated but quickly snapped out of it.

"Of course, what's up?" Natalie asked. "You didn't run into the midnight pervert, did you? I haven't heard that he's interested in men."

"No, not at all." Kevin shivered, feeling goosebumps all over his body. He quickly explained, "Natalie, you're so famous now. I'm worried he might target you. It's dangerous for you to live alone."
