Chapter 1472

"You mean Kevin? Oh, you misunderstood." Cynthia finally grasped the situation and hurriedly explained to Edgar, "Kevin is Ms. Johnson's cousin. I just wanted to ask him to help get Sean into Ms. Johnson's class. I ran into some clients on the way, had to toast with them, and accidentally drank too much. Kevin helped me out."

"Is that so?" Edgar still felt uneasy and said sullenly, "And why did you go drinking with those men when you invited Kevin to dinner? The clients I introduced wouldn't disrespect me. Why did you have to seek others? You may not care about your dignity, but I do."

"Do you think I wanted to embarrass myself?" Cynthia suddenly erupted, her eyes turning red. "Do you know those clients were already taken by someone else? They're connected with the police chief. If you were capable, would I need to drink with those disgusting men? If you've got the ability, go get the clients back for me. Go ahead!"

She became more agitated, her chest heaving. Her open collar revealed her ample bosom, trembling with her every breath.

Edgar remained silent. He knew it wasn't easy for Cynthia to socialize, but as a man who earned less than his wife, he always felt humiliated. People at work often joked that he was supported by his wife, which made him feel even less dignified. He wanted to find some balance, but Cynthia directly confronted him.

"By the way, where’s Kevin?" Cynthia noticed Edgar's weakness and didn’t want to hurt his self-esteem further. She sighed and asked, "You didn’t do anything to him, did you?"

Edgar looked embarrassed and stammered, unable to speak. Earlier, in his rage, he had beaten Kevin and handcuffed him to the radiator. But after a few hours, he had calmed down. If Kevin had really done something to Cynthia, why would he answer the phone? And with Cynthia’s explanation, he felt even guiltier.

"Tell me, what did you do to Kevin?" Cynthia's frown deepened as she stepped forward, questioning him urgently, "Did you hit him?"

"No, I thought he violated you, so I slapped him," Edgar said quietly, "and handcuffed him in the room."

"How could you do that?" Cynthia was so furious she couldn't speak, pointing at Edgar incredulously. "Kevin is just a kid. What kind of indecent act could he possibly do? You're such an idiot."

"Who says he didn't do anything indecent?" Edgar shot back. "I checked your body at the time. Your private parts were wet, and your chest buttons were missing. If it wasn't him, who else could've done it? Perversion doesn't have an age limit. Plenty of teenage rapists out there. I don't believe he had no thoughts about you."

Cynthia blushed slightly. In the private room, Kevin had peeked at her chest, and the last time they met, he had an involuntary physical reaction when he accidentally hugged her. Boys at that age are indeed very curious about women. She wasn't sure if Kevin had taken advantage of her when she was unconscious, but the main responsibility was hers, not Kevin's.

She snorted and said, "You cops only know how to use force to get confessions. He must have been scared into admitting something. Even if he touched me a few times, so what? I did it willingly. I'm not your pet. I contribute more to this family than you do. Don't think I don't know. Can you swear you haven't touched that pretty cop in your office?"

"You slut, I'll kill you!" Edgar was instantly enraged, grabbing Cynthia's slender neck and gritting his teeth. "Let's see you seduce men again."

Cynthia couldn't breathe but refused to beg for mercy. Her face turned red, and she weakly said, "If you have the guts, strangle me. Let everyone see what kind of person you are. You'll never find someone as good as me again."

Edgar suddenly let go, his face turning red and white, then collapsing on the sofa like a deflated balloon. All his dignity as a man vanished at that moment. Cynthia had spoken a harsh truth they both knew: it was Cynthia, not him, who supported the family.

"Alright, now let's go to the hotel and release Kevin, then apologize to him." Cynthia took a deep breath, tidied her disheveled clothes, and said softly, "You messed this up. If you don't fix it, we might as well get divorced."

Edgar's arrogance disappeared. He got up silently and went downstairs with Cynthia. They drove to the small hotel, only to see two police cars parked outside with a cordon around the area.

"Oh no, it's the detectives. Why are they here?" Edgar's face turned pale.

"Did something happen to Kevin? Go ask quickly." Cynthia was also terrified.

Edgar hurriedly got out of the car and walked to the hotel entrance, just in time to see Detective Captain Mark coming out. He approached and pretended to be calm, "Captain Mark, such a big scene. Is there a case?"

Mark glanced at Edgar and said indifferently, "Edgar, if I were you, I wouldn’t be smiling. You've really done it this time. Misusing police equipment and illegal detention—I think you won’t be wearing that uniform much longer."

Edgar had a glimmer of hope, but he didn't expect Mark to be coming for him. He quickly smiled and said, "Captain Mark, it's just a misunderstanding. My wife explained everything to me. I came to apologize to Kevin. Where is he?"

"He went to the hospital for a check-up. Daisy accompanied him. She’s furious and said she’s going to report this to Mr. Ellis. You better hope for the best," Mark shook his head. Edgar had a poor reputation in the department and no allies. If Daisy was after him, he had no one to fall back on.

"What? Daisy’s involved too? Mark, you’re close to Daisy. Can you smooth things over for me? I was just impulsive. I'll treat you to dinner later."

Edgar's eyelid twitched at the mention of Daisy. He knew he was in significant trouble. Daisy's dad had clout in the police force. Who knew a kid named Kevin could stir up so much trouble?

Mark sneered inwardly as Edgar tried to cozy up to him. Edgar had always looked down on him, a frontline detective. Now in trouble, he wanted help. Mark decided to let Edgar sweat a bit and declined to assist.

Just then, Cynthia stepped out of the car and approached Mark, speaking softly, "Captain Martin, this is all my fault. Edgar's just a fool. I’ve already scolded him. Please help him. I’m begging you."

Mark's gaze fell on Cynthia's chest, where her deep cleavage was partially visible. He thought, "A useless guy like Edgar has a wife like this?"

Seeing Cynthia's soft plea and pitiful eyes, Mark's heart softened. He quickly said, "Cynthia, don’t say that. How about this: Daisy's really angry right now. You two shouldn't go over there. I’ll find out more first. Later, you can buy some gifts and visit Kevin to make amends. As long as he's okay, this will blow over. Edgar was indeed too reckless."

Edgar, feeling dejected, was grateful for Cynthia's advocacy. At the crucial moment, she still cared about him. He felt utterly useless.

At the Telehealth Hospital entrance, Daisy and Kevin came out, holding a stack of medical reports. Daisy had Kevin undergo a full-body check-up. He was mostly fine except for some abrasions on his wrist and a swollen face, which looked alarming.

"Daisy, can you keep this under wraps?" Kevin suddenly asked, embarrassed, "Audrey is very sensitive. I'm afraid she'll overthink things."

"Okay," Daisy thought Kevin's concern was valid and didn’t want to tarnish the department's reputation. "What are you going to say? You can't hide the injuries on your face."

"Just say I got stung by a wasp," Kevin touched his swollen face. But the excuse seemed too unbelievable, even to him. Audrey wouldn't buy it for a second.

"How about this: say you encountered a thug and got hurt while being heroic. Let Mark back you up," Daisy suggested. This way, Kevin's privacy was protected, and the department could save face.

Daisy then drove Kevin back to Audrey's place. As soon as Kevin walked in, his phone rang. It was Audrey.

"Kevin, what's going on? Why didn’t you show up to class this afternoon? Where are you?" Audrey's tone was unusually stern, "You better have a good reason, or I'm calling Bethany."

"Audrey, don’t be upset. Let me explain." Kevin quickly relayed the prepared story, "If you don’t believe me, you can ask Daisy. She was there with the police."

Hearing that Kevin was injured by some thugs, Audrey panicked. She no longer cared about him missing class and quickly hung up to pack her things and head home.

Ethan, noticing Audrey's worried expression, quickly asked, "Ms. Johnson, is there a problem at home? Do you need me to come with you?"

"No, thank you. It’s nothing," Audrey declined Ethan’s offer, grabbed her bag, and hurried out of the office. On the way, she called Alissa and told her about Kevin's injury.

Alissa was shocked to hear about Kevin's injury, but she was busy preparing application materials and couldn't leave. She told Audrey to go ahead, and she would come over after finishing her work.
