Chapter 1077 Continued Fate

Why did it all happen this way?

Kevin walked aimlessly towards the building, feeling his legs stiff and almost motionless, his body trembling uncontrollably, as if a never-ending chill had enveloped him.

What did he do wrong?

Looking around dazedly, Kevin found the bustling campus now eerily silent. The tall camphor trees in front of the auditorium appeared as colossal monsters in the darkness, swaying with the breeze, their branches rustling unsettlingly.

He slowly approached one of the camphor trees, gazing upward. He couldn't fathom the emotional despair that must have led the female teacher to end her own life. She must have lost all attachment to this world.

Kevin felt his heart as heavy as ashes. He had truly made one mistake after another this time. Not only was his ambiguous relationship with Natalie discovered by his sister, but he also disregarded her opposition and made love to her moments ago. His sister must be bitterly disappointed in him. Recalling her desolate expression, he wanted to give himself a good slap. He had never forced his sister, even when she was drugged and set up by others. Why couldn't he control himself just now? He felt lower than a beast; surely his sister despised him.

The more he thought, the more depressed he became. He angrily punched the tree trunk, only to yelp in pain as his hand hit the rough bark, now scraped and bloody.

Suddenly, a light chuckle sounded behind him, resembling a woman's laughter. Kevin turned around but found no one there. The story of the hanging female teacher crossed his mind, sending a chill straight down his spine. Was the female ghost about to appear?

Goosebumps covered Kevin's body, and even his manhood seemed to retreat into his abdomen. He wanted to flee, but his legs refused to obey. Despite his usual courage, facing a supernatural entity like a female ghost sparked fear in him.

"I mustn't be afraid. I am an educated man, how could I believe in such unreal things?" Kevin reassured himself. Though ghost rumors circulated in school, nobody had ever truly witnessed them. It must all be fake.

But what if it was real? The thought made Kevin increasingly uneasy. Trembling, he slowly made his way towards the main entrance, when a slight tap on his shoulder made him jump, buckle at the knees, and close his eyes, awaiting the specter's justice.

"Kevin, what are you doing?" A familiar voice suddenly sounded in his ear. Opening his eyes, Kevin saw Fiona standing before him, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Though I'm a year older and your senior, no need for such formality."

"Fiona, what are you doing here?" Kevin finally relaxed, stood up from the ground, and wiped the cold sweat from his back. He had truly been frightened just then.

"Oh, we don't have night self-study today, and I didn't feel like going home, so I decided to wander around the campus. Surprised to bump into you here. It's late; what are you doing here lost in thought?" Fiona exuded charm in her white casual outfit, her long hair flowing. Her chest rose and fell, perhaps slightly larger than Lucy's, being a senior in high school. Fiona had developed more than most girls her age, possibly sporting a C-cup. Her mature allure, smooth skin, long legs, shapely rear, and tight casual pants showcased her exquisite figure. Her bright eyes shone, exuding a maturity that most peers lacked, rightfully earning her the title of the Sunset Valley High School's campus beauty.

Kevin felt awkward, reminiscing about the restoration of his sister's relationship to its initial stage. His heart was weighed down with sorrow, and tears threatened to well up in his eyes as he lowered his head to avoid Fiona's gaze.

Misinterpreting Kevin's silence, Fiona jested, "Did you not do well in the test today? It's all right; exam scores never define us. Just keep striving for improvement. You don't seem like someone who would be upset over a test result."

"Um, I just didn't expect to perform poorly in this test." Kevin hesitated but didn't deny it, hoping for a conversation to relieve his feelings.

As they chatted, they strolled toward the football field. Fiona was lively and engaging, her radiant face shining in the moonlight. While Fiona was in high spirits, Kevin's mind was preoccupied with his sister's heartbreaking expression. He had truly hurt her this time, feeling foolish for keeping Natalie's photo on his phone, as if deliberately provoking Audrey. But he found it peculiar—how did his sister know about his involvement with Natalie? Could someone have informed her? And if so, who could that person be?

"I feel a bit tired; let's take a break," Fiona suggested, sitting on the roadside. Kevin reluctantly sat next to her, feeling her soft body gently brushing against his thigh. Inhaling her subtle, youthful fragrance, he felt a mix of nervousness and awkwardness. After all, she was the daughter of the deputy governor and differed from the other girls he knew—mature, composed, and ahead in her thoughts, always evoking a unique impression.

At times, he found it quite baffling. How could someone like Fiona, a member of a prominent family, be friends with an ordinary guy like him? It was indeed rare. People and their connections could be peculiar, sometimes forming bonds due to chance encounters that bridged two different worlds. Just as with his sister—hadn't it been the same? If not for that one time he voluntarily escorted Audrey home, perhaps their shared history wouldn't have unfolded. But Audrey was never meant for his world; inevitably, she would leave.

"Hey, why are you quiet?" Fiona nudged Kevin's thigh lightly with her knee, exhibiting an intimate gesture, unfazed by the physical contact with a male. Playfully, she teased, "You've become so shy; back then, your face was so much thicker. Remember the last semester when we were at the bar, and you disrupted Ivan's plans? It feels like a distant memory now."

Feeling embarrassed, Kevin scratched his head and chuckled awkwardly, "Fiona, let's not dwell on the past. I was a bit foolish back then. If only I knew it was you..."
