Chapter 62 Reflection
Audrey's face turned red. She did look down on some of the less educated teachers, but it wasn't just about their education. Many lacked professionalism, were complacent, got involved in petty rivalries, and some, like Quentin Rodriguez, were even predatory toward female teachers. Audrey's naturally aloof personality made her even less inclined to engage with such colleagues.
Seeing Audrey's silence, David Carter sensed her reluctance to accept his advice. He smiled and said, "Audrey, I get it. These teachers have their flaws, but it's not always their choice to act this way. Their environment shapes their behavior. They aren't saints; they have families to support and kids to raise. You need to see things from their perspective and not be too idealistic. For example, if you could maintain good relationships with your colleagues, I could nominate you for an Outstanding Teacher award at the end of the year. That would really boost your chances for a promotion."
As head of the English department, David Carter had the authority to decide the department's nominations for outstanding teachers. Some department heads even accepted bribes to determine who would get the award. However, David Carter despised such corruption, rarely made unilateral decisions, and preferred to consider the opinions of most teachers before making a final decision.
Although David Carter had a good impression of Audrey, other teachers didn't think highly of her, especially the female ones. Vanessa Wood, in particular, accused Audrey of being too close with several male teachers and claimed she was a bad influence on the department.
David knew most of Vanessa's accusations were baseless, but Audrey did have her issues. She was naturally beautiful and often dressed provocatively, which inevitably led to male teachers fantasizing about her. Even David himself sometimes had inappropriate thoughts when he saw Audrey's voluptuous figure, so he understood how the younger male teachers felt.
As department head, David had subtly hinted to Audrey several times to dress more conservatively at school to avoid gossip and negative perceptions. However, Audrey ignored his advice and continued her way, perhaps out of defiance. She often wore spaghetti-strap dresses that revealed her long white legs and bouncing breasts, attracting the attention of male teachers and students alike, much to David's frustration.
Today, though, Audrey's outfit pleased David. She wore a shirt and jeans, not showing off her arms and legs like she usually did. Otherwise, David would have felt uncomfortable having her in his office for a long conversation. Still, her large breasts strained against the shirt, making David worry the buttons might pop off at any moment.
David's words struck a chord with Audrey. Given recent events, she had been reflecting on her behavior. Maybe she had been too harsh on others, especially Kevin . She always demanded he focus on his studies and not entertain inappropriate thoughts, without acknowledging how hard it was for boys his age to control their impulses. They needed guidance, not suppression.

The first button on her shirt popped off, and her tightly stretched shirt pulled back, revealing her white breasts encased in a black bra. David was momentarily stunned.
"Ah!" Audrey's face turned crimson. She hadn't expected such an embarrassing mishap. She quickly covered her chest with her hands, stammering, "Mr. Carter, I'm sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen. There must be something wrong with this shirt. Please don't misunderstand."
David had just mentioned the Outstanding Teacher award, and now this happened. She was genuinely worried he might think she did this on purpose.
She had no intention of seducing David Carter.
Seeing Audrey's flustered expression, David quickly regained his composure and chuckled, "It's okay, Mrs. Johnson. Just be more careful next time you buy a shirt. My daughter is about your age, but she's a bit chubby and often does this too. I'm used to it."
He found a safety pin from his desk drawer, placed it on the table, and then picked up another application form to review.
