Chapter 878: Life is Like a Play

"What's wrong, is it over?" Lucas opened his eyes to see the audience standing up, his wife looking a bit displeased at him. He awkwardly explained, "The performance was too long. I had a rough night's sleep yesterday and accidentally dozed off."

"Alright, let's go," Audrey said softly and headed out, leaving Lucas in his seat.

Exiting the grand theater, it was nearly six o'clock. Lucas insisted on taking Audrey to a luxurious hotel for dinner, wanting to show her a bit of Starhaven's nightlife. Audrey didn't want to dampen his excitement, so she followed her husband to the Sofitel Grand Hotel in Starhaven's CBD, a five-star hotel known for its luxury in the heart of Starhaven.

They reached the rooftop buffet restaurant, where the per person cost was 888 yuan. From here, they could overlook the entire Horizon Harbor at night. Dressed in European style, the restaurant was managed by a French Michelin three-star chef. Ingredients were flown in from around the globe—Canadian Boston lobsters, Norwegian salmon, Japanese tuna, New Zealand low-fat cheese, along with a variety of freshly made cakes, chocolates, sashimi, and scallops. The restaurant also featured fantastic tenor performances, offering excellent value for money.

Lucas returned with a large plate of seafood, saying gleefully, "Tonight, we're only eating seafood. At 888 yuan per person, eating anything else is a waste."

Seeing the plate filled with lobsters, oysters, sashimi, scallops, and Alaskan king crabs, Audrey frowned and chided, "What are you doing? We are here to eat, not to feed pigs. Aren't you afraid of being ridiculed?"

"What's there to ridicule?" Lucas looked around, hummed, and said, "I paid for it, so I can eat whatever I want. These so-called well-dressed people aren't all that special. Once I make my fortune, I'll buy out this restaurant so we can dine without any disturbances."

"I think you're getting obsessed with money. Let's just eat." Audrey shook her head in resignation. She wasn't particularly interested in seafood, preferring fried hairtail. Although the ingredients in front of her were expensive and not ones she usually indulged in, she believed that buffet dining was about enjoying the foods you liked. Many people at buffets tended to focus on eating to get their money's worth, losing sight of the pleasure of savoring fine cuisine.

With one hand picking at lobster and the other sipping Bordeaux, Lucas beamed, "Darling, this is what life is about. Remember our past days? It was so simple. Money really makes life better. Rest assured, in a couple of years, I'll ensure you're eating lobster every day."

"I'll be right back." Audrey excused herself to the restroom. Upon returning, feeling uneasy, she accidentally bumped into someone nearby and quickly apologized.

"It's fine," the man smiled slightly and asked, "May I know your name?"

Audrey hesitated, looking at the tall man in a white suit with a sharp face, finding his interest in her peculiar. She furrowed her brow and replied curtly, "Is there something you need?"

"No, I just wanted to get to know you." The man handed her a business card and said, "May I?"

It turned out to be a flirtation attempt, and despite the man's polite manner, Audrey didn't want to appear too cold. She took the card, which read "Derek, Investment Consultant at Venture Capital Group," and softly said, "Mr. Derek, thank you for your kind gesture, but I am already married. I'm sorry, my husband is waiting for me. Goodbye," before swiftly moving on.

Observing Audrey's departure, Derek rubbed his chin, pleasantly surprised to come across such a stunning woman while dining at the hotel. Her cold demeanor and married status only added to the challenge, making the prospect more thrilling. Slowly making his way to the front desk, a woman in a black suit approached warmly, "Mr. Derek, what can I help you with?"

"Leon, pay for a guest's bill in the restaurant over there," Derek described Audrey's appearance, then added, "Also, open a presidential suite on my account."

"Of course, Mr. Derek," the lobby manager responded deferentially, a hint of awe in her expression. Though young, Derek was Starhaven's youngest rich second-generation, spending millions annually at the hotel, making him a VIP client requiring dedicated service.

Returning to their seats, Audrey saw Lucas still devouring food voraciously, surrounded by seven or eight plates. "Lucas, why are you still eating? Don't overeat," she advised.

"It's fine, we rarely get to eat like this. It'd be a waste not to eat to your heart's content," Lucas said, putting a piece of salmon into his mouth with satisfaction, letting out a content belch. "Alright, I'm almost done. Do you want more food?"

"I'm done. Let's go," Audrey said as she prepared to leave, but a waiter approached them, smiling, "Madam, someone has already settled your bill with this gentleman. Your payment will be refunded."

"What? Someone paid?" Lucas exclaimed in surprise, asking, "Who?"

"Sorry, the individual didn't disclose their identity, and we cannot inquire," the waiter explained.

"Oh well, it might be someone I know in Starhaven," Lucas said proudly. "See, darling, with this face, I can now dine anywhere in Starhaven for free."

While Audrey was puzzled, she couldn't help but wonder if the young man she encountered at the restroom entrance was the one who paid the bill.
