Chapter 1047 Power Struggle
The boys in the class, who had been suppressed by Alissa for a semester, became excited. They chattered animatedly, causing a ruckus in the classroom. Several boys even made a scene during David's roll call, leading to laughter throughout the room. David merely furrowed his brow; since he just took over Class 57, he refrained from getting stern right away. Additionally, the dynamics of Alissa's class were unique, with many students coming from influential backgrounds. He opted to turn a blind eye.
Laura, the class monitor, stood up to restore order but to little avail. Normally, Ivan, as the class leader, should have upheld discipline, but he lazily remained seated, engrossed in the commotion. Laura was nearly driven to tears by his indifference.
Upon seeing this, Kevin was outraged. How dare they bully his girlfriend! He grabbed a book from the desk and hurled it towards a boy who was laughing loudly, roaring, "Shut up, all of you!"
The boy rubbed his head and turned to see Kevin, challengingly remarking, "Kevin, why did you throw a book at me? You're just the English class representative—why do you think you can control me?" This boy, Paul, was Ivan's ally. His father held a prominent position at the Water Resources Bureau, and his mother was a staff member at the Finance Bureau. Despite consistently poor academic performance, he managed to enter Sunset Valley High School due to his mother's influence. Yet, even at the school, he frequently skipped classes, harassed female students, and even flirted with female teachers, much to Alissa's distress. He was aligned with Ivan, playing a core role in the rebellious youth circle. Behind his glasses and seemingly refined appearance, Paul was nothing but a troublemaker. He visited massage parlors weekly to spend time with escorts, even boasting about intimate encounters to other male students in the class.
Kevin had previously clashed with Ivan and emerged unscathed, elevating his reputation. When Paul challenged him, Kevin didn't hesitate to stand his ground.
"I don't care what you think. The class monitor just asked for quiet. Are you deaf?" Kevin retorted coldly. "Just because Mrs. Garcia isn't here doesn't mean you can do as you please. If you don't want to be in class, leave. Don't disrupt others."
At this point, Ivan rose as well, mockingly confronting Kevin, "Kevin, what's your deal? Who gave you the right to hit Paul with that book? You're just the English class representative, not even on the student council. You think you can impress Laura with such old-fashioned stunts? Let me tell you, that's pathetic. Do you think Laura would be interested in someone like you? A bumpkin."
The relationship between Kevin and Laura had only been confirmed at the end of the previous semester, and it had not been publicly disclosed. Essentially, only Lucy and Albert knew about it. Ivan had no clue that Laura was already Kevin's girlfriend, hence his jesting remarks aimed at preventing Laura from being misled by Kevin's actions.
Kevin was taken aback, stealing a glance at Laura, who blushed and sat down directly. For the time being, he chose not to publicly reveal his relationship with Laura, and calmly stated, "Senior Monitor Su, it's true that I serve as the English class representative. During this English class, I am obligated to assist Mr. Lu in maintaining order. If not, I'll call Mrs. Garcia. Let her handle this and assess if you're fulfilling your duties as class monitor."
Hearing Kevin mention Alissa, Ivan felt a chill down his spine. He knew well that Alissa had never fancied him and had been contemplating replacing him as senior monitor. Especially during the summer break when Alissa appointed Kevin as the group administrator, Ivan sensed a looming threat. He couldn't allow Kevin to find any leverage against him at this moment. Thus, Ivan shot a stern look at Paul, instructing, "Alright, sit down. Behave and pay attention in class."
With Ivan's authoritative remark, the disruptive boys in the class significantly calmed down. David also breathed a sigh of relief. Considering Alissa's absence and no other teacher daring to take over Class 57, he had taken it upon himself. It seemed that only Alissa could manage these unruly boys effectively.
After completing the roll call and assigning several crucial tasks for the semester, including diagnostic exams and final tests, David addressed the class, "We are now in our sophomore year. It's a pivotal year bridging the gap between higher and lower grades. Sophomore year is vital in high school, requiring your utmost preparation. Let's be humble and earnest facing new challenges. Let's all strive together—agreed?"
"Agreed..." A few scattered and lackluster applause rang out in the classroom. Kevin furrowed his brow momentarily. David's words were undoubtedly sensible, but at his age, he didn't quite understand the current students. No one enjoyed hearing these clichés. While Alissa, in comparison, could be harsh, each word she spoke hit home, often bringing the most mischievous students in the class to tears. When she stood at the podium, she exuded authority without anger—an admirable skill that garnered respect.
David found himself with a headache. Having overseen various classes, he had yet to encounter one as unruly as Class 57. The depth of complexities in the class was staggering. He had hoped for a peaceful ride until retirement, yet it seemed that only Alissa could handle Class 57.
Upon David's departure, the classroom erupted into chatter, all discussing Alissa's absence. It appeared that nobody wanted David as their class teacher. While Alissa was strict, her captivating delivery in teaching had earned her popularity. Although not conventionally attractive, she had upped her style since dating Kevin, donning fashionable dresses that accentuated her ample figure. As a result, her ranking on the Sunset Valley High School's female teachers' popularity chart continuously climbed, almost reaching the levels of Audrey, Vanessa, and Kimberly.
Even some mischievous male students had given the four female teachers nicknames: Audrey was "19 Sister" for the wordplay on "ample bosom" sounding like "19," Vanessa was the "Fox Spirit" for her seductive charm, Kimberly became "Long Legs" for her tall stature and quick walk, while Alissa was simply dubbed "Kong." Administrator Lola at the Discipline Office, however, had acquired the most numerous and unflattering nicknames: "The Old Witch", and "Godzilla."
Albert approached Kevin with a smile and said, "Kevin, why are you so temperamental? Picking a fight with Ivan is quite amusing. He's clueless. If he knew Laura was already your girlfriend, I wonder what his expression would be. Ha!"
"Shh, don't spread rumors," Kevin reprimanded Albert with a sharp look. "No gossiping allowed around here. Relationships are against the rules at school."
"What's there to fear?" Albert was puzzled, not completely understanding. If it were him, he would want every male student at Sunset Valley High School to know that Laura was his girlfriend, for the sake of his reputation.
