Angry and frustrated, she took out her phone to book a ticket home. Just then, a message came through. "Hi Audrey, remember me? It's Dave from college. We met on the train a few days ago. Our school is hosting an academic exchange with a lecture from a social sciences academician. Are you available to attend?"
Audrey felt a pang of disappointment. She had hoped it was a message from Lucas. In the past, he would always apologize after their fights. This time, he seemed truly heartless.
Hesitating, she decided against booking the ticket and replied to Dave, "Sure."
The next day, Audrey took a bus to Aetheria. Despite being angry with Lucas, she didn't want to end their relationship impulsively. Dave's invitation provided a chance to clear her mind and avoid escalating the conflict with her husband.
