Chapter 1138: Affection Towards the Opposite Sex

Returning to the research room, Audrey coincidentally met Vanessa. Observing the tablet in Audrey's hand, Vanessa smiled playfully, "Oh, Mrs. Johnson, you bought a tablet! That's the latest model, worth five or six thousand. I was thinking of getting one too. Let me have a look."

"What's up?" Audrey recounted the classroom incident. "High school students these days are quite a handful."

"Well, with your figure looking that good and wearing those sheer stockings, it's no wonder the students find it challenging to focus," Vanessa chuckled. "It's not that big of a deal. It's just a few covert photos. Harmless observation, really. Maybe they just want to admire the teacher's legs in stockings at home. If you dare to wear them, why fear being watched?"

Blushing slightly, Audrey chuckled and conceded some truth to Vanessa's words. Adolescent boys' curiosity about the opposite sex was natural. She had confiscated Felix's tablet, but could she blindfold his eyes to prevent intrusive thoughts? She sighed, "It's not that serious. If he were merely peeking, I wouldn't mind. However, capturing images with a tablet is unacceptable. By not involving the homeroom teacher, I've already shown leniency."

"Ah, Audrey, you don't need to take it so seriously," Vanessa said lightly. "This is nothing. There were students in the past who masturbated discreetly in class, reportedly even ejaculating on a female teacher's skirt, leaving her too frightened to return for a week."

"Is that true?" Audrey widened her eyes. "And how did the school handle it?"

"What more could they do? Just a warning was issued," Vanessa shrugged. "Students these days are something else, even accusing the female teacher of intentionally dressing provocatively."

"These students are terrible, turning the tables like that," Audrey remarked.

"Indeed. But what can the school do? In the end, everything is smoothed over, so I suggest you don't stress too much about it. The pressure on high school sophomores is immense, and self-pleasure can alleviate stress. It's better than enduring it and eventually seeking less savory outlets. So, as teachers, consider these acts as student favours," Vanessa suggested with a smile.

"You have a very open-minded perspective," Audrey replied wryly. Vanessa's words lightened her mood. She decided to return Felix's tablet once he acknowledged his mistake.

"Of course; the most important thing in life is to ensure your own happiness. Punishing yourself for others' mistakes is unnecessary folly," Vanessa remarked. "You tend to care too much about others' opinions, making life unnecessarily burdensome."

Their relationship had significantly improved. Vanessa's frankness was a stark contrast to Audrey's more reserved nature. Despite their differing approaches, they now found themselves aligned, collaborating for a common cause.

"Hey, what are you two beauties chatting so cheerfully about? Let me join in," Quentin interjected, entering the room.

Exchanging glances, Vanessa and Audrey returned to their seats, paying little attention to Quentin. Disappointed by their lack of response, Quentin returned to his seat, observed Audrey's expression, and jovially inquired, "Mrs. Johnson, your cousin Kevin is in Class 57, isn't he?"

"Yes, what about it?" Audrey replied calmly. "He has been in Class 57 for a year now. Seems like everyone in the research department knows that. Mr. Rodriguez, did you just find out?"

"Ah, Mr. Carter insisted I take over Class 57 as the homeroom teacher yesterday. Initially, I hesitated, but I'm a person who accommodates others," Quentin said. Failing to elicit a reaction from Audrey, he continued, "Mrs. Johnson, rest assured I will take care of your cousin."

"I have no doubts about that," Audrey stated calmly. "Mr. Rodriguez, Kevin is my cousin, yes, but he is also an ordinary student at Sunset Valley High School. He doesn't need any special treatment from you. Treat him as you would any other student."

"Mrs. Johnson, you have a strong sense of principle. A truly exceptional teacher with high moral standards," Quentin attempted to win some praise from Audrey. Seeing her unaffected demeanor, he felt a pang of frustration, contemplating ways to discipline Kevin. He wondered if Audrey would remain composed under pressure.

Upon Quentin's departure, Vanessa scoffed, "Audrey, Quentin is despicable. Don't waste your time on him. You have more influence now, no need to fear him. The more attention you give him, the more relentless he becomes."

Acknowledging Vanessa's insight, Audrey blushed and softly responded, "It's not that. I just worry about him retaliating against Kevin, and you know Kevin's temper."

"That's true." Vanessa paused before suggesting, "Why don't you transfer Kevin to our class or another to avoid conflict with Quentin?"

"I'm not sure that's a good idea. Quentin just became the homeroom teacher; moving Kevin might provoke unnecessary trouble," Audrey hesitated. "And Mrs. Garcia wouldn't approve either."

"Seems a bit complicated," Vanessa mused. "If all else fails, I could speak with Mr. Carter and take over Class 57 myself. That way, Quentin could switch to another homeroom."

Eyes brightening at the proposal, Audrey hesitated, "Vanessa, do you have enough teaching experience to compete with Quentin? He's been teaching longer than both of us, and he has strong connections."

"Don't worry about that. Leave it to me," Vanessa smirked mysteriously, strutting out of the room with a sway in her hips. Observing their unexpected unity around a student matter, Audrey reflected on their past conflicts. It all seemed rather absurd.

After five minutes, Vanessa returned with a displeased expression. Contrary to her expectations, David had rejected her request to become the homeroom teacher, leaving Vanessa thoroughly exasperated.

"That old man is probably just afraid of offending Quentin because of his uncle, the deputy director," Vanessa grumbled. "Audrey, you know Angus, right? If it comes to it, ring up the superintendent. I don't think Quentin will be able to withstand it."

Audrey hesitated to call Angus for such a trivial matter, deeming it unreasonable to involve the district superintendent over minor issues. She also owed Angus a favor and wasn't sure how to repay it. In the meantime, she resolved to keep Kevin out of trouble, hoping the situation would resolve itself upon Alissa's return.
