Chapter 145 Truth or Dare

"I'm cool with whatever. Let's see what you guys wanna do," Laura Jones said with a slight smile, sitting up straight with her hands neatly in front of her, just like her mom Daisy Davis always taught her. Daisy was big on manners and being proper, no matter where you were.

The group, bored of singing, decided to play Truth or Dare. They formed a circle, and Albert Williams, holding a dice, grinned, "I'll go first. There are six of you, starting with Kevin . I'll roll the dice, and whoever's number comes up has to choose Truth or Dare. Got it?"

"Hurry up! We've played this a million times. Stop being so dramatic," said the impatient girl next to Kevin . "If you keep dragging, we'll replace you."

This girl, pretty but tough, acted more like a boy. Albert, resigned, shook the dice and tossed them onto the table. It landed on 2. He looked at the girl with a mischievous grin, "Your choice, Truth or Dare?"

"Truth," she said, a bit uneasy under Albert's gaze, opting for the safer choice after a moment's hesitation.

"Alright, tell us, when was your first kiss?" Albert asked, grinning.

The group erupted in jeers, and the girl blushed, hesitating before saying, "I refuse to answer that."
"Sorry, you broke the rules," Albert said, placing a beer bottle in front of her. "If you don't answer, you gotta chug this whole thing."

She hesitated but eventually downed the beer, clearly hitting a sore spot with Albert's question.

"Good one," Albert nodded, rolling the dice again. It landed on 2 again. He looked up at her, grinning wider.

"Why me again?" she groaned, unnerved by his grin. She pretended to be calm, saying, "Ask away."

"Describe the pattern on your underwear," Albert asked.

Her face turned bright red instantly, glaring at Albert before reluctantly replying.

She had never expected such a bizarre question. The others burst into laughter, even Laura Jones, who covered her mouth, shaking with laughter. Albert, realizing he might have gone too far with Laura present, quickly rolled the dice again. This time, it landed on 4, Laura Jones.

The room fell silent, everyone curious about her choice. Laura tilted her head, thinking before softly saying, "I'll choose Truth."

It seemed that girls were wary of Dare.

"Alright, then," Albert cleared his throat, trying to steady his breath. "Do you have a crush on anyone?" He stared intently at her.

Laura's heart skipped a beat, not daring to look up as the person she liked was right across from her. She nodded slightly, indicating yes. Albert couldn't help but ask, "Is this person in the room right now?"
"Hey, Albert, you're breaking the rules," the girl from before stood up, pointing at him. "You asked two questions. You gotta drink a bottle of beer."

Albert, realizing his mistake, chugged a bottle of beer. The girl, pleased, felt she had avenged herself a bit.

The game continued, with the other three classmates being chosen for either Truth or Dare. Kevin , however, hadn't been picked yet and felt a bit left out. Catching an occasional glimpse of Laura, he wondered if her crush was Albert.

Albert rolled the dice again, hoping for a specific number. It landed on 1, Kevin . Albert, disappointed, asked listlessly, "Your choice, Truth or Dare?"

"I'll go with Dare," Kevin said excitedly, ready to finally participate.

"Alright, I've got one," the girl from before said, handing Kevin a can tab. "Take this to the prettiest girl in the next room and tell her, 'Marry me.'"

The boys cheered, but Laura frowned, "That's not a good idea. We don't know who's in the next room. If they don't like jokes, it could cause trouble. Let's pick something else."

Hearing Laura, the girl hesitated but stubbornly said, "Kevin , it's up to you. If you don't want to, drink the remaining beer."

Kevin saw there were at least seven or eight bottles left, far too much for him to drink. Determined, he said, "I'll do it. Who's afraid?"

Taking the tab, he left the room.

Once outside, Kevin regretted it. As Laura said, the bar, though more decent than seedy karaoke joints, was still a mix of people. If he encountered troublemakers, it could be terrible. But too embarrassed to back out, he stood at the door for a moment before reluctantly heading to the next room. At room 202, he took a deep breath, deciding to say his line and run.

With that thought, he pushed the door open and saw a girl on the sofa. About to speak, he froze. It was Fiona Harris, the senior he had met on the soccer field. What was she doing here?

Fiona, wearing a black batwing top and denim shorts, exposing her long, white legs, and crystal sandals with red-painted toenails, looked like a rebellious teen. She was chatting with two other girls and looked up, surprised to see Kevin . "Kevin , what are you doing here?"

Kevin noticed a large birthday cake on the table with candles, and the room decorated with colorful balloons and streamers. It was Fiona's birthday. He wanted to leave but didn't want to be mocked by his friends. Steeling himself, he got down on one knee, holding out the tab, "Marry me."

The two girls with Fiona widened their eyes, shocked. A boy was proposing to Fiona—this was big news. Fiona clearly knew him, but they had never heard her mention him. Kevin , tall and good-looking, must have some background to dare pursue Fiona.

Fiona blinked, then burst out laughing. "Kevin , what are you doing? Is this some kind of joke?"

Kevin , face burning, stammered, "It's a dare. I had to do it."

Fiona shook her head, still laughing. "Alright, alright. Get up. You did your dare. Now go back before you get into more trouble."

Kevin stood up, relieved but still embarrassed. "Thanks, Fiona. Happy birthday, by the way."

"Thanks," she said, smiling. "Now go on, get out of here."

Kevin hurried back to his friends, heart pounding. As he entered the room, everyone cheered, and Albert clapped him on the back. "Well done, man! You actually did it!"

Kevin forced a smile, still feeling the heat in his cheeks. "Yeah, yeah. Let's just keep playing."
