Chapter 63 Seduction
Watching Audrey walk away, David Carter shook his head but soon smiled. Normally, because Audrey was young and attractive, and her husband was often away, David kept his distance to avoid any gossip. Today, he took the chance to speak his mind, hoping Audrey would improve her relationships with her colleagues, which would help her career.
The homeroom teacher, Alissa, had also been a bit aloof like Audrey. With David's patient guidance, she matured, became an excellent homeroom teacher, and earned her senior teacher status. She had become a key member of the English department. David planned to recommend Alissa as the deputy head of the English department when the time was right to assist him. In three to five years, when he retired, he could confidently hand over the department to her.
As for Audrey, David saw a bit of young Alissa in her. Audrey had the ability and the right mindset but needed more social skills. If she took his advice, she might become another Alissa in time.
However, David had his concerns. Unlike Alissa, Audrey was exceptionally beautiful and had an alluring figure that attracted attention wherever she went, she was more likely to be harassed by those with ill intentions, making it hard for her to focus on teaching.
There had been a beautiful and diligent female teacher in the English department before who often sought David Carter's help with teaching issues. She had a bright future, much like Alissa. Unfortunately, her beauty attracted unwanted attention, and she ended up having an affair with a married male teacher. The scandal erupted when the man's wife found out and caused a commotion at the school, forcing the female teacher to resign and leave in disgrace.
Thinking of this, David Carter felt helpless. Times had changed. Nowadays, attractive female teachers often sought to curry favor with school leaders rather than focusing on their teaching. Teachers like Audrey, who were serious about their work, were rare. He hoped she would maintain her integrity and not repeat past mistakes.
As David Carter was lost in thought, the door creaked open, and a seductive figure slipped in, bringing a waft of perfume. Vanessa stood before him, dressed in a low-cut spaghetti-strap dress that revealed her white breasts and legs. David frowned and looked away, saying sternly, "Mrs. Wood, why are you here again? Didn't you submit your application form?"
"Mr. Carter, I have something I want to discuss with you," Vanessa replied with a coy smile and moved closer to David until her body almost touched his leg. "Mr. Carter, I've been applying for an intermediate promotion for several years but always ranked last. Could you please put in a good word for me?"
David felt a twinge of disdain. Vanessa spent her days dressing provocatively and neglecting her teaching duties. He had advised her several times, but she had ignored him. Now, with the promotion at stake, she was trying to curry favor. He replied slowly, "Mrs. Wood, I'm just the head of the English department. The school leadership decides on promotions. I can't help you with that. You should look for other ways."
Feeling thirsty after talking to Audrey for so long, David reached for his cup to drink some water. As he did, he accidentally brushed against Vanessa's smooth, soft arm, and his body stiffened. He quickly grabbed his cup and drank the tea to cover his embarrassment. Despite being in his fifties, he was still a normal man and couldn't help but feel a bit aroused when touching a young, attractive female teacher.
Vanessa's eyes lit up as if she had discovered a secret. She reached for David's cup and said, "Mr. Carter, let me help you."
Her hands, however, tightly grasped David's, and she smiled seductively, even daring to trace her finger along his palm. To her, David, as the department head, held some influence. Sacrificing a bit of her charm to please him seemed worthwhile.
David was shocked by Vanessa's boldness. He jerked his arm away and spilled water on his pants. His face darkened as he scolded, "Mrs. Wood, please behave yourself. You are a teacher."
Vanessa's face turned pale at David's outburst, and her eyes welled up with tears. She cried, "Mr. Carter, I'm sorry. I was just too desperate. I've been waiting for this intermediate promotion for four or five years, and every year I fail. People laugh at me behind my back, and even my husband looks down on me and often hits me. Look, these bruises are from him."
She suddenly lifted her dress, revealing a bruise on her thigh stark against her white skin.
David instinctively glanced at the bruise but quickly turned away, feeling it was inappropriate. Seeing Vanessa in tears, he felt a pang of sympathy but also feared being misunderstood. He sighed and said, "Alright, alright, Mrs. Wood, stop crying. Let's sit down and talk. Tears won't solve anything."
Hearing the softening in David's voice, Vanessa stopped crying and sniffled, "Mr. Carter, I know I've made things difficult for you, but I had no other choice. I know I haven't performed well and haven't worked hard enough. I promise I'll change. I'll do whatever you say. Please, help me with this promotion."
David looked at Vanessa, who was standing tearfully before him, appearing so pitiful and endearing. His heart skipped a beat, and he quickly reminded himself not to lose his head. Vanessa was around his daughter's age and his subordinate. A scandal would ruin him. He steeled himself and said, "Alright, go back to your office. I'll think about it."
Seeing David's reluctance, Vanessa bit her lip and suddenly knelt before him, trembling, "Mr. Carter, I beg you. Please help me. I'll do anything you ask."
