Chapter 970 Indulgence
"I truly realize my mistakes, everything you said is true. Ah... I have indeed erred," Kevin sighed in his heart, acknowledging the correctness of Kimberly's words. He knew he could no longer entangle himself emotionally with other women, or else he would have a hard time explaining things to his cousin.
Starting from the first encounter with Alissa, he had subsequently been involved with Vanessa, Evelyn, Grace, Caroline, Elizabeth, Hazel, and Natalie. Furthermore, Kimberly already accounted for nine women. Reflecting upon it, he admitted to a certain level of indulgence. However, having more women didn't necessarily imply prowess; at least Kevin didn't feel that way now. He felt more lost and fatigued, sensing the need for a radical change. Having a remarkable woman like his cousin was a stroke of luck; he shouldn't be too greedy, as there would inevitably be consequences.
Leaving Kimberly's residence, Kevin descended the steps lost in thought. He contemplated that the involvements with Caroline, Elizabeth, and Hazel were impulsive and should never have happened. He resolved not to provoke them again in the future.
Evelyn, being Albert's mother, deserved closure as well, as it wouldn't bode well if Albert found out about their affair in the future. The shrewd nature of Vanessa and Natalie made it clear that Kevin, even as a student, couldn't outmaneuver them. It was best to steer clear of them.
That left Audrey, Alissa, and Grace. Audrey, his elder cousin, was someone he could never abandon. Even if it meant never being intimate with other women, he would not abandon his cousin.
Alissa, his homeroom teacher and guide to matters of intimacy, was aware of his relationship with Audrey. Thus, maintaining ties with Alissa was permissible, perhaps leading to other possibilities in due time.
Grace, his godmother and Audrey's classmate, was another connection he couldn't casually discard. Since Grace was in a different school, minimal interaction with Audrey should keep things under control.
As he thought of Grace, Kevin mused that he had been neglecting his godmother recently, fearing that she might be upset. Just as he exited the apartment block, his phone rang. It was Audrey calling. Eagerly, Kevin answered, "Sis, when are you coming back? I've missed you terribly."
"In a day or two," Audrey replied coolly, "How was your day? Have you completed the assignments I gave you?"
"I finished them long ago," Kevin chuckled, "I'm awaiting Mrs. Johnson's return for assessment and guidance."
"Enough of your banter. School starts soon, and you should focus. If you don't perform well in the baseline test, you'll have a hard time explaining to Mrs. Garcia."
"Don't worry, sis. I'll prepare well for the test. And I'm looking forward to the reward from you."
"Let's discuss that later," Audrey diverted the conversation from the reward, exchanged a few more words, and then disconnected the call. Suddenly, a cheerful voice of a girl emanated from the phone, "Kevin, do you remember me?"
The voice seemed familiar to Kevin, and he soon realized it was the same person who had impersonated Audrey yesterday. Furrowing his brow, he warned, "Who are you? If you dare cause trouble again, I won't be lenient."
The girl who posed as Audrey the previous day managed to startle Kevin. With a smirk, she retorted, "Not bad for a little brat. Considering your age, you should address me respectfully as your sister. If you have the guts, come to Glendor and find me. I don't believe you'd dare to touch me, you coward!"
Glendor was Audrey's hometown, situated over a hundred kilometers to the north in a remote, economically disadvantaged mountainous county. Due to its proximity to Starfall Town, Glendor had better economic prospects. Prior to the revolution, girls from Glendor were often willing to marry into Starfall Town.
Kevin was taken aback by the girl's audacity. He felt a strong sense of curiosity. Who was this girl to Audrey? Although Audrey had spoken about her family before, mentioning a brother but no mention of a sister. If the girl had been Audrey's schoolmate, she would be around thirty years old, too old to be acting so immaturely.
"All right, Bella, give me the phone," Audrey took the phone and said a few words to Kevin before hanging up. Turning to the girl beside her, she reprimanded, "Bella, you're no longer a child. Why do you act so recklessly? Look at your messy dyed hair, resembling a thug. Who would want to marry you in that appearance?"
Standing next to Audrey was a lively girl named Bella, the youngest daughter of Audrey's uncle. Spoiled since childhood, Bella was not diligent in her studies, often skipping classes to watch videos. She didn't make it to college and ended up attending a nursing school. However, Bella yearned for stardom, frequently taking leaves to the provincial capital to audition for roles, spending her family's money in the process, and nearly falling victim to deception in her pursuit of fame.
As Audrey scolded her cousin, Bella rolled her eyes nonchalantly, "This style suits me just fine. It's your outdated views that can't appreciate it. How long have you been married? Your words sound as conservative as my mother's. Do you know what it means to be a modern woman? My body, my rules. How I dress is my choice. Besides, I am in no rush to get married like you. Is there anything good about marriage anyway? It seems like being married or not, it's all the same for you."
Seeing Bella hit a nerve, Audrey's expression soured. She was well aware of her cousin's temperament, straightforward and inconsiderate, often causing distress even to her own parents. Bella, seeing Audrey's reaction, moved closer, clutching Audrey's arm with a smile, "Hey, cousin, don't be angry. I'm just teasing you. It's actually quite good that your husband isn't home. You can do whatever you want without anyone bothering you. And you have someone making money for you. It's real freedom."
