Chapter 1533
Suddenly, Grace's phone rang again. She jumped, her face lighting up with a flicker of hope, thinking Kevin had changed his mind. She quickly answered, her voice tinged with a hint of a hum. "Miss me already?"
"Grace, I've always missed you," came a familiar male voice from the other end. It was her ex-boyfriend, Chase.
"Oh, it's you, Chase." Grace's expression hardened, her tone turning cold. "I told you not to call me anymore. I'm married now. Please don't disrupt my life."
"Grace, I know you still hate me, but I had no choice back then," Chase said emotionally. "I admit I hurt you, but I'm wealthy now. I can make it up to you a thousand times over. Come back to me, Grace. I can give you everything."
"Sorry, Chase, but my life's in a good place now. I don't need any compensation," Grace replied icily. "I don't need your dirty money. Give it up already. If you keep bothering me, I'll call the police."
"Grace, how can you be so heartless? We were practically married. We did everything a married couple does, except for the wedding," Chase argued. "Do you really love Byron? You're just using him to get back at me. Is that fair to him? Are you really willing to spend your life with a man like that?"
"Shut up," Grace snapped, her voice sharp. "Chase, do you think saying that will drive a wedge between us? No, I don't love Byron. He's a loser, a coward, and everyone looks down on him. But I'm grateful to him. He gave me a home when I was at my weakest. And you? You broke my heart. Do you think I'll forgive you? I wish you were dead."
There was silence on the other end, followed by the click of the call ending. Grace's body trembled, still caught up in the intense emotions. She had truly loved Chase, which made his betrayal all the more painful. Even if Chase became the richest man in the world, she would never forgive him.
His call ruined Grace's good mood. She quickly changed into workout clothes, deciding to go for a walk to clear her mind. Despite the cold weather, she was more resilient than most and never wore extra layers in winter. She just put on a sports bra and a tank top under her jacket, which highlighted her tall, voluptuous figure.
As Grace stepped out of her house, the door across the hall opened, and a short, middle-aged man emerged. It was her neighbor, Tom Green.
"Tom, working on the weekend?" Grace greeted him with a smile, noticing his janitor uniform. Tom's wife had passed away ten years ago, leaving him to raise their son, Teddy, alone. Grace often felt sorry for them and would occasionally give them clothes. The two families had a good relationship.
"Yeah, working," Tom replied curtly, nodding at Grace. He was naturally quiet, and after his wife's death, he became even more withdrawn, even with neighbors he'd known for years.
"Well, I'll be off then," Grace said, understanding Tom's reserved nature. She smiled and headed downstairs, her ample hips swaying noticeably in her workout pants.
Tom watched Grace's fit, sexy figure, his eyes briefly filled with a heated gaze before returning to their usual blankness. He hunched his already short frame and slowly made his way downstairs.
By the time he reached the bottom, Grace was long gone. Her long legs made her a fast walker, and few could keep up with her.
Tom shuffled towards the neighborhood entrance. No one knew that he was the infamous Midnight Stalker of Harmony County, a seemingly unremarkable man who became a terror for countless women at night. He had ruined many lives.
But Tom wasn't a mindless predator. He meticulously chose his targets, studying their routines for months before striking. His careful planning and the victims' reluctance to report the crimes meant the police had little to go on, allowing him to remain free.
Tom had a thing for tall, curvy women, especially those with big chests. His previous victims, like Audrey and Daisy, fit the bill perfectly. Of course, they also had to be attractive; plain-looking women just didn't do it for him.
Grace, though not particularly busty, had a tall, voluptuous figure and striking beauty, fitting Tom's tastes perfectly. However, he had never considered targeting her. Grace was the only person in the neighborhood, maybe even in all of Harmony County, who had shown kindness to him and his son. Despite his hatred for society and his desire to punish privileged women, he felt a sense of gratitude towards Grace.
More importantly, Tom had other targets on his list, like the busty teacher Audrey from Sunset Valley High, Daisy from the same school, the County Planning Director's wife Evelyn, the County Treasurer's wife Willow, and even the County Executive's wife Maurice. These women, with their large breasts or high status, were his ultimate conquests. Compared to them, Grace was less urgent.
However, these women lived in well-secured areas with tight security and surveillance. Even Audrey, who seemed the easiest target, had almost led to his capture. With the police still investigating, Tom had to lay low and wait for the right moment.
Audrey remained his most coveted target. Despite his many conquests, her perfect breasts were unmatched. He had touched them once but hadn't gone all the way, a regret he couldn't shake. Audrey's body and looks surpassed Grace's slightly, and she was younger. Letting her slip away would be his lifelong regret.
"Tom, you're late again. Next time, I'll dock fifty bucks from your pay," a portly man barked at Tom as he arrived at the sanitation station.
Tom said nothing, enduring the man's tirade silently. The man was the sanitation team leader, frequently docking workers' pay and benefits for minor infractions. His relative was a deputy director at the sanitation department, so no one dared to challenge him. But Tom had his ways of getting back. The team leader's son had recently married a pretty woman, and Tom had already added her to his list.
After the team leader finished his rant, he waved Tom off to work. Tom rode his garbage truck to Pixel Path, a dingy alley between Harmony Lane and Cyber Avenue. The narrow, poorly maintained road was full of potholes, especially messy during market days. No one wanted to clean it.
Tom, being quiet and not one to curry favor with the bosses, always got the worst assignments. But he never complained, diligently doing his job. He soon reached a shop selling various tofu products, where a few customers were lined up. A short man inside was busy, sweating profusely.
This man was Grace's husband, Byron. The shop had been in his family for generations and was well-known in Harmony County.
Tom watched Byron, feeling a pang of envy. Byron wasn't much better off than him, even shorter, but he was fortunate enough to marry Grace, a tall, beautiful woman. Every man on Pixel Path envied him.
People might mock Byron, but so what? He got to sleep next to a gorgeous woman every night, enjoying Grace's ample curves. Tom, despite his many conquests, had to sneak around, always fearing capture. He knew his crimes would land him in prison for life if caught. His only concern was his son, Teddy. He could only curse his bad luck for having such a father.
Just then, a car drove by, splashing muddy water onto Tom's pants. He silently stepped back, wringing out his pants.
The car stopped ahead, and a shapely leg in black stockings emerged, followed by a red high heel hitting the muddy ground with a crisp sound. Everyone turned to see the owner of the alluring leg.
