Chapter 1738
Maurice called her husband and daughter, but both said they were busy and couldn't come back. She felt a bit disappointed, but also a hint of unspoken joy that she could have some alone time with Kevin that night.
They decided to make Chicken and Dumplings together. Maurice called the nearby supermarket to deliver pre-mixed meat filling. Maurice and Kevin enjoyed making and cooking together.
Although Kevin helped with chores at home, his movements were rough, resulting in oddly shaped food.
"This won't work. It's leaking here, and it will all fall apart once in the pot," Maurice checked the Dumplings Kevin made, furrowing her brows. "You need to seal every edge tightly. Let me show you."
She demonstrated, fingers dancing like in a ballet, quickly making a beautiful Dumpling.
"I can't do it like that," Kevin said awkwardly. Maurice's movements were too fast, leaving him dizzy. "Forget it, you don't have to do it. Go boil some water. We can't eat that much anyway," Maurice said, not expecting much help from Kevin. Just having him around gave her energy.
Kevin reluctantly took the pot to fill it with water and put it on the gas stove to heat. Seeing flour sticking to Maurice's nightgown, he reached out to brush it off. But Maurice moved to grab something, and Kevin's hand landed on her plump buttocks, making a crisp sound. Her flesh jiggled a bit.
Both froze. Maurice widened her eyes, thinking Kevin was too bold to flirt with her openly. Should she be angry? After all, she was the elder. She couldn't just have no reaction.
Seeing Maurice's stern expression, Kevin panicked and stammered, "Uh, Maurice, I didn't mean to. I saw flour on your skirt and wanted to brush it off, but you turned around, and I couldn't control it! I'm sorry!"
"It's okay," Maurice said, feeling somewhat relieved. Although she didn't mind being playfully tapped by Kevin, she didn't like such frivolous actions. Even if she didn't say it out loud, she had her reservations.
She continued kneading the dough, but the spot where Kevin tapped her buttocks felt tingly, as if ants were crawling along her crack. Her vagina also tingled slightly. She quickly squeezed her legs together, feeling embarrassed and scolding herself for feeling aroused by a simple tap on the buttocks. It was even more intense than the response to affection and kisses from her husband. Did she subconsciously enjoy being teased?
Thinking this, she couldn't help but glance at Kevin, feeling an urge to ask him to tap her again to confirm her feelings.
Kevin, however, was uneasy. Maurice might scold him, which would be better than her nonchalant reaction. The more casual she was, the more anxious he felt. He feared she might misunderstand his intentions. It was unnecessary for him to tap off the flour. Although Maurice didn't mind, buttocks weren't something one could casually tap. Maurice's plump buttocks had strong elasticity, and the feeling of the palm slapping them was quite satisfying. If he could tap a few more times, it would be even more satisfying. Both harbored their thoughts, silently preparing dinner, occasionally stealing glances at each other. The atmosphere in the kitchen became strange. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Maurice was kneading dough and couldn't free her hands, so she asked Kevin to answer the door.
Outside, Ivan stood at the door in a sharp suit and tie, looking mature. He held two boxes of health supplements, which cost nearly ten thousand dollars just for these gifts.
But Ivan didn't care. As long as he could gain Maurice's support, spending any amount of money was worth it. In families like Fiona's, parental authority was crucial. Even if Fiona was rebellious, she couldn't go against her mother. Eventually, she would have to submit to him. He would become the son-in-law of the County Executive.
However, Maurice wasn't easily fooled. Ivan quickly thought about what to say to Maurice when he met her. He must be polite and leave a good impression. He couldn't be too honest or reserved. He had to show his mature and stable side, offering unique insights into Harmony County's development to impress Maurice. After all, he would enter politics in the future. Poor academic performance didn't matter, but he had to be intelligent. He couldn't boast too much, to avoid leaving a proud negative impression.
As the mansion door opened, Ivan put on a smile, cleared his throat, ready to greet Maurice. However, he was surprised to see someone he didn't want to encounter.
"Kevin? What are you doing here?" Ivan's face changed dramatically, asking in surprise, "How did you get in?"
"Of course, I walked in with my two legs. Did you fly here?" Kevin shrugged, calmly. Seeing the gifts Ivan held, he chuckled inwardly. It seemed Ivan wasn't giving up. After being rejected by Fiona, he was now trying to please Maurice.
"Step aside, I need to see Maurice." Ivan, seeing Kevin blocking the door and not letting him in, was furious. This guy thought he was the master here. Ivan wondered how Kevin had managed to deceive Maurice.
"Sorry, Maurice instructed that anyone bringing gifts should not be allowed in." Kevin crossed his arms, smiling. "You better leave and not upset Maurice."
"Kevin, you have no right to stop me. Don't act tough here!" Ivan lowered his voice. "Don't think you can rise to the top just because you're here. If you're smart, you'll leave now. Sooner or later, I will be the master here, and Fiona will be mine. If you want to survive in Harmony County, you better start buttering me up early. Ha!"
Kevin wasn't provoked by Ivan's taunts. He just looked at him calmly, as if watching a clown perform. If he were an ordinary high school student, Ivan's threats might have scared him, as they could easily become a reality.
In a remote town like Harmony County, the power structure was simple and unusually stable. Power and wealth circulated among a dozen prominent families through marriages and collaborations, weaving a tightly knit web of interests.
The Simmons family, the Williams family, the Allen family, the Davis family... each was a link in this vast network, competing and uniting, suppressing the rise of new forces. Even Armando couldn't completely tear apart this web of interests and could only selectively cooperate with a few families.
Ordinary people could only look up to these town elites, with no means to challenge them.
But Kevin was different. If his father hadn't died in a car accident, the Smith family might have climbed the Harmony County pyramid and become part of the town's elite. Unfortunately, his father's death changed his fate completely.
However, Kevin didn't give up. He fought against his fate, relying on his mother Bethany, and enduring the toughest times. He was lucky to have the attention of several elders: Evelyn, Daisy, Willow, and Maurice. These women were among the top socialites in Harmony County, possessing significant influence.
This gave Kevin the ability to influence Harmony County's political landscape. He had close ties with Police Chief Mark, discussed with Armando, and could manipulate Grant and Edgar's job changes. This level of influence was remarkable for a high school student.
Moreover, he had a God-sister, Natalie, who could command the underground world of Harmony County. They had been through life and death together, with a deep bond far beyond ordinary lovers. Even if Kevin wanted someone to disappear from the world, Natalie would do it without hesitation.
This was Kevin's true strength. Ivan, relying on his father's power to act recklessly, was no match for him.
