Chapter 455 Rumors and Gossip
In short, ever since Audrey became a teacher at the school, Oliver felt a renewed enthusiasm for work. He no longer felt dull and was no longer just waiting to retire. He wanted to make a difference, to earn Audrey's admiration. He ran to the education bureau every day for funding, brought in new blood, and planned to build teacher apartments for the school. The teachers at the school were also working fervently, gradually catching up with another high school. Oliver received recognition and praise from the education bureau.
However, Oliver didn't care about all that. He only wanted one person's praise, and that was Audrey. Unfortunately, Audrey always avoided him, rarely coming to his office to report work. This woman was too proud, and her relationship with colleagues was not very harmonious. She was often ostracized and there were frequent reports against her. But because of Oliver's presence, no one dared to really harm Audrey. The rumors about Audrey and Oliver also served as a form of protection for her.
Suddenly, there was the sound of high heels behind him. Oliver turned around and saw Vanessa walking in. She was wearing a red mini skirt that resembled a flame, with voluptuous legs in black stockings, exuding immense sex appeal. Despite Oliver not holding Vanessa in high regard, he had to admit at that moment that Vanessa knew how to capture a man's heart.
Oliver walked up, smiling, and said, "Mr. Jones, I came here mainly for matters at the education bureau, and also to visit the teachers we trained at our school. How are you doing here? Are you comfortable? Any difficulties?"
Seeing Oliver's concern, Vanessa cursed inwardly. This old man was so good at pretending to be serious. That night in the hotel room, he was all over her, making her sore down there. She didn't even dare to be intimate with her husband when she got home. Now he was acting all righteous, as if they had no connection at all.
But now she knew many important figures in the city, broadening her horizons. She wouldn't treat Oliver as someone extraordinary anymore, nor would she try to please him deliberately. She smiled and said, "Thank you, Mr. Jones, I'm doing fine. But Mr. Jones, you need to take care of yourself, don't overwork. I see more wrinkles on your face. It's not easy to manage such a big school, right?"
As she spoke, she sat on the nearby sofa, crossing her legs, which were quite enticing.
Seeing Vanessa's subtle change in attitude towards him, Oliver furrowed his brows uncomfortably. However, he knew Vanessa had great ambitions and was eager to climb the ladder. This time at the city training, she must have had other intentions. He didn't expose her, as their relationship was merely a transaction. He still smiled and poured Vanessa a cup of tea, saying, "You must have gained a lot from this training, Mr. Jones."
Vanessa took the cup, took a graceful sip, and said with a reserved smile, "Not much gain, just got to know a few people. Oh, by the way, I had dinner with the Secretary of the Municipal Government yesterday."
"The Secretary?" Oliver was surprised. He knew the Secretary of the Municipal Government, Angus, was a powerful figure in the city, young and promising, highly valued by the city leaders. How could Vanessa know Angus?
"Yes, the Secretary is quite friendly. He even invited me to his house. Don't be fooled by his official position, his home is very simple," Vanessa said with a smile.
"Mr. Jones, do you know the Secretary?" Oliver hesitated. He couldn't believe Vanessa could get close to the Secretary. If she knew the Director of the Education Bureau, he wouldn't be surprised, but Angus and Vanessa had no connection at all.
"Yes." Seeing Oliver's nervous expression, Vanessa said smugly. She felt even more pleased. Oliver had always been very dominant, and she didn't expect him to be nervous upon hearing about Angus. Unfortunately, her relationship with Angus was just a meal. She would have to ask Kevin to put in a good word for her in front of Angus, to try to get herself transferred to a good school. In the end, what did Oliver matter?
Just as Oliver was about to continue questioning, he suddenly saw a familiar figure at the door. His eyes lit up—it was Audrey walking in. Compared to Vanessa's hot outfit, Audrey appeared much simpler, in a T-shirt and jeans, very casual. However, her voluptuous figure was still very eye-catching, especially her ample bosom that swayed as she walked, making Oliver's heart race.
"Mrs. Johnson is here." Oliver quickly got up, invited Audrey and Vanessa to sit at the dining table, and called the waiter to order. Not seeing Audrey for a week made her even more charming in Oliver's eyes, igniting a fire within him, his eyes burning with desire.
Soon, the waiter brought out exquisite dishes. Oliver ordered the hotel's signature dishes—salmon and Australian lobster. Both Vanessa and Audrey were taken aback, never having eaten such delicacies before, feeling a bit awkward and hesitant to use their chopsticks.
Oliver also had a bottle of French dry red wine brought over, which cost over two thousand dollars. Although not as expensive as an '82 Lafite, it was still quite luxurious.
"Come, Mr. Jones, Mrs. Johnson, your participation in this city training represents the image of our school. You must study hard," Oliver raised his glass, smiling, "This toast is on behalf of the school, hoping you both can be humble and make progress. "
"Mr. Jones, we just got our intermediate professional titles. How can we progress?" Vanessa said with a smile, holding her glass.
According to the school regulations, it would take five years to upgrade from an intermediate to a senior title. Neither Vanessa nor Audrey could currently upgrade to a senior title. Oliver glanced at Audrey, smiling, "Where there's a will, there's a way. Advancing to a senior title doesn't necessarily require five years. We can make exceptions, of course, provided that you both perform exceptionally well."
