Chapter 774 The Expensive Sunscreen
However, Kevin didn't want to become a gangster. Previously, he spent his days watching videos, playing pool, and video games with Albert, learning to smoke and drink, having a great time. But then his mother, Bethany, gave him a severe beating, which finally made him turn over a new leaf and avoid going down the wrong path.
Thinking back now, he was a bit scared. If his mother hadn't intervened in time, he might have truly fallen. Ivan's father, Devon, was the director of the finance bureau, and his mother, Willow, was in a dance troupe. They reportedly had millions in savings, owned several shops in Starfall Town, and even bought two apartments in the economic center. Even if Ivan didn't go to school, it didn't matter. How could Kevin compare with him?
"What do you know, kid?" Alissa gave Kevin a glance, frowning, "I'm the homeroom teacher, and I'm responsible for every student in Class 57. No matter how they behave, I won't give up on them. I even considered making you the class monitor next semester, but seeing how immature your thinking is, forget it."
"Don't, sis." Kevin quickly grabbed Alissa's hand, smiling, "I was wrong, okay? I was just talking nonsense. If I become the class monitor, I'll definitely be better than Ivan. Leave Class 57 to me, and I promise no student will fall behind."
"That's more like it. Kevin, remember, no one is perfect. You need to be tolerant and not act based on your likes and dislikes. You need to have the demeanor of a class monitor, understand?" Alissa laughed lightly, her large, voluptuous breasts jiggling, causing Kevin's eyes to glaze over, his recently relieved desire stirring again.
"Alright, it's getting late. I should go." Alissa nodded in satisfaction. Seeing Kevin staring at her chest, she gave him a playful glare, "What are you looking at? Didn't you have enough fun the other day? I was so sore down there, I'm only just recovering."
Seeing Alissa's flirtatious look, Kevin's lust surged. He whispered, "Sis, I'll come to your house tomorrow."
"What for? I don't have time." Alissa, though tempted, sighed, "I have too much to do these days. Besides, it's not convenient at home with your cousin around. Let her keep you company. I really don't have the time. Maybe after my training."
Kevin felt a bit frustrated. Audrey had suggested he visit Alissa, but now Alissa was passing the ball back. It seemed he could only turn to his godmother, Grace. After Alissa left, Kevin stood by the roadside for a while. He saw Audrey slowly walking out of the street, her tall, sexy figure particularly eye-catching. Her dress clung tightly to her curvaceous body, her full, firm breasts jiggling with each step, creating a mesmerizing wave.
Her long, slender, white legs were alluring, the hem of her skirt fluttering in the wind, adding to her charm. Her hips swayed as she walked, her round, perky buttocks making one's blood boil. Her delicate, beautiful face was radiant, her bright eyes sparkling with autumn waves, deep and unfathomable. Passersby were left stunned, turning back to look even after walking far.
Audrey was undeniably beautiful, like a movie star stepping out of a calendar, her every move enchanting. Her slight frown added to her allure, making one want to hold her and caress her.
Seeing Kevin waiting by the roadside, Audrey acted as if she didn't see him, walking straight past.
Kevin knew his cousin was angry and didn't dare call her. He followed her dejectedly to the supermarket, thinking about what Alissa had said. Maybe he really was too immature.
"Mrs. Johnson." A man suddenly stopped, greeting Audrey with surprise. It was Ethan from the English department. "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, just shopping at the mall." Audrey smiled slightly. "What about you, Mrs. Garcia?"
"The TV at home broke, so I'm here to buy a new one." Ethan suddenly spoke mysteriously, "Mrs. Johnson, have you heard?"
"Heard what?"
"Our school is setting up an information office, and they need a director. The requirements are under thirty, a bachelor's degree, and a mid-level title," Ethan said excitedly. "This is a great opportunity. Many young teachers are trying for it. Mrs. Garcia, you meet all the requirements, and Mr. Jones thinks highly of you. I think you have the best chance."
"I'm not interested." Audrey's face darkened slightly. She hated being associated with Oliver, as if all her achievements were because of him.
"Why not?" Ethan was puzzled, "Mrs. Johnson, it would be such a pity to miss this opportunity."
"I just want to be a good teacher. I'm not interested in anything else," Audrey said coldly. "Mrs. Garcia, if there's nothing else, I'll go now." She then walked towards the supermarket, leaving Ethan standing there, puzzled by her sudden coldness.
At the supermarket entrance, Audrey turned to see Kevin still following her. She frowned, "Why are you still following me? Weren't you walking fast earlier? Why stop now?"
Kevin, dejected, said, "Sis, I was wrong. I shouldn't have lost my temper with you. I know I need to be tolerant, to be patient. I promise I won't argue with Christopher anymore."
"You, what can I say?" Audrey thought it was funny. Kevin was good in many ways, but he was too impulsive. If he didn't learn to control his temper, he might get into trouble. She sternly said, "Do you think you know everything? Don't you think I know what Christopher is thinking? But what do you want me to do? He's in a difficult situation now. Should I kick him when he's down? If I were such a vindictive woman, would you still like me?"
Kevin was speechless. Their relationship had been rocky recently, but he had never seen Audrey so angry. Maybe he was really wrong this time.
"Sis, I was wrong," Kevin said firmly. "No matter what, I'll always like you."
Seeing Kevin's earnest expression, Audrey felt both amused and touched. She didn't take his words seriously. Boys Kevin's age were too emotional, either idealizing people or thinking the worst of them. She took his hand, sighed, and said, "Kevin, I'm not as good as you think. You're just impulsive now. If one day you mature, you might hate me and leave me. And don't make promises lightly. Women are petty; they'll remember everything you say. Don't say what you can't do, understand?"
"I understand, sis." Kevin looked into his cousin's bright, charming eyes, feeling captivated. Though Audrey spoke from the heart, he couldn't fully grasp her meaning.
Audrey entered the supermarket but didn't go directly to the second floor. Instead, she took Kevin to the cosmetics section on the first floor. She had heard that the summer sun in Starhaven was more intense, so she wanted to buy some sunscreen.
A saleswoman soon approached, smiling, "Hello, ma'am, what are you looking for?"
"I want to look at some sunscreen," Audrey said, eyeing the array of cosmetics. She rarely used makeup, usually just face wash and lip balm. She never used perfume or lipstick. Her husband, Jason, used to joke that if a woman as beautiful as her wore makeup, it would be unfair to other women.
Since her husband went south, Audrey hadn't felt like dressing up. At school, she dressed very modestly. With her husband away, there was no one to dress up for. There was a period when she deliberately wore very revealing dresses to compete with Vanessa, making her male colleagues and students very happy. But that was also when rumors spread that Audrey had slept with the principal, Oliver. Later, Audrey realized she was being too impulsive and reverted to wearing T-shirts and jeans, disappointing the male teachers and students.
The saleswoman quickly brought out several bottles of sunscreen, enthusiastically saying, "Miss, this is our best-selling series. There are three types: red for daily use, white for weekends, and black for long outdoor activities like swimming or hiking."
"By the way, will this sunscreen cause any allergic reactions on my skin? I used one before, and it caused a lot of red bumps and itching. I haven't dared to use any since." Audrey extended her arm for the saleswoman to see.
Seeing Audrey's smooth, white arm, the saleswoman said enviously, "Miss, your skin is so good. Don't worry. You must have used a poor-quality sunscreen before. Our sunscreen is perfect for sensitive skin, very light and breathable, not greasy. It even contains pearl powder for a whitening effect. You can wash it off easily with face wash."
"Really? Is it that effective?" Audrey hesitated. Her skin was very delicate, even mosquito bites left red marks for days. She wondered if the saleswoman was just making it up.
"You can try it first." The saleswoman took a sample bottle, squeezed some onto Audrey's arm, and gently rubbed it in. "How does it feel? Cool, right? Our sunscreen is very effective. Unless you go to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, you won't get tanned anywhere else. One application lasts 12 hours, but it's best to apply it in the morning and afternoon. It's made from all-natural ingredients, so it won't harm your skin."
Listening to the saleswoman's enthusiastic pitch, Audrey was tempted. "How much is it?"
"The set is $588, but as a new customer, you get a 20% discount, so it's $470. Are you paying by card or cash?" The saleswoman asked with a smile.
"So expensive?" Audrey was surprised. The sunscreen she used to buy was only a few dozen dollars. She didn't expect this store's to be almost ten times the price.
"Miss, you get what you pay for. This is imported from Japan. Ordinary sunscreen can't compare," the saleswoman said with a smile. "Women should treat themselves well. You're so beautiful with such good skin. You should take good care of yourself so your husband will cherish you more."
"Forget it, I'll look around some more." Audrey was unmoved. The price was beyond her budget. She wouldn't buy a $500 sunscreen; it was daylight robbery.
