Chapter 1579
With Audrey's reassuring words, Kevin's spirits lifted. He realized that since Jason was often in Imperial City, any competition between them would be futile. There was no point in clashing with Jason. It was his own unpreparedness that had caused him to act out of character.
"Okay, I'll try to be nicer to Jason at dinner later. Let's not dwell on this, agreed?" Audrey, noticing Kevin's improved mood, gently reminded him. They were family after all, with Jason as her husband and Kevin as her brother-in-law. She truly didn't want to see them at odds.
"Yeah, I get you." Kevin squeezed Audrey's hand. "Audrey, I won't cause you any trouble."
If only Jason hadn't returned so abruptly.
But no matter how reluctant Kevin felt, he had to accept the reality of them living together as a trio.
Once everything was settled, Audrey went to the bedroom to wake Jason. The three of them gathered around the dining table. Despite the food being warm, the atmosphere was decidedly frosty.
Jason and Audrey, despite being married, hadn't seen each other in almost six months. After their argument, they couldn't find a suitable topic to discuss.
Jason and Kevin, meeting for the first time, didn't click and had nothing to say to each other.
As for Audrey and Kevin, they refrained from showing any affection in front of Jason, even going as far as to keep a deliberate distance.
Thus, silence pervaded the dining room, broken only by the clinking of utensils and the sound of chewing.
Audrey was the most conflicted. With a man on each side, one being her estranged husband and the other Kevin, with whom she had an affair, her emotions were in turmoil. She felt intense emotions akin to those of a couple in love, yet guilt, nervousness, and helplessness swirled within her.
Despite Kevin's improved mood upon arriving, he couldn't muster the will to greet the man who rightfully had Audrey by his side. It irked him to be treated as a guest in what he had considered his home for the past six months.
Earlier, while resting in the bedroom, Jason had come to terms with the idea that since Kevin had moved in, opposing it was pointless. Even if he sent Kevin away today, Audrey might secretly call him back once Jason returned to Imperial City. It made more sense to allow Kevin to stay and gain Audrey's favor. After all, Jason had come home primarily to raise funds and repair his relationship with Audrey. No need for conflict with Kevin; he needed to show generosity to please Audrey.
With this in mind, Jason grinned and said, "Kevin, make yourself at home. Help yourself to whatever you like. Audrey and I go way back. Dig in, have some more meat." He grabbed a piece of beef and placed it in Kevin's bowl.
Seeing Jason play the gracious host, Kevin felt irritated. He thought to himself that he had never bothered with politeness when Jason wasn't around. Not only had he sampled the beef, but he had also indulged himself with Jason's wife.
Noticing Audrey lost in thought, Kevin mischievously speared a sausage with his utensil and placed it in Audrey's bowl, saying, "Audrey, you're a fan of sausages, right? Here, taste mine."
Audrey glanced at Kevin, noting his sly grin and the long, red sausage on his utensil. She blushed, understanding Kevin's suggestive gesture, but she couldn't say much in front of her husband. She accepted the sausage, took a light bite, and replied, "How's the flavor, Kevin?" Kevin teased further, "If you like it, I'll get you another one."
"No need, enjoy it yourself," Audrey said, cautioning Kevin with a meaningful glance and a light nudge under the table, signaling him not to push things too far.
Although Kevin's comments seemed odd to Jason, he didn't dwell on them. Scenarios like incest, common in TV shows and novels, were rare in reality. Upon returning home, he had inspected the bedroom but found no incriminating signs, largely due to Audrey's meticulousness. She always tidied up after being intimate with Kevin, leaving no traces behind. They had also recently cleaned the house, changing the sheets, pillowcases, and covers, erasing any evidence.
Despite their morning intimacy on the balcony, the only underwear stained with semen and vaginal discharge was in the bathroom washing machine, unnoticed by Jason.
Watching Kevin serve Audrey prompted Jason to recall something, and he picked up a slice of apple pie, placing it in Audrey's bowl. "Sweetheart, have a taste of this apple pie. It's delightful," he said. Audrey furrowed her brow and softly remarked, "I never eat apple pie, you forgot." With that, she carefully transferred the apple pie from her bowl to a nearby plate, meticulously removing any crumbs.
Jason then realized his mistake and felt embarrassed for forgetting his wife's preferences. He had been away from home for so long that he didn't even remember simple details about Audrey. He felt like an inadequate husband.
Absentmindedly reaching for the sausage with his fork, Jason was about to pick it up when Kevin's fork also grabbed the other end. Meeting Jason's gaze, Kevin didn't back down.
"Hey, Kevin, looks like you're a big sausage fan. Go ahead, it's all yours," Jason said, forcing a grin as he picked up a piece of vegetable from the pot. He felt a bit irked by Kevin's lack of manners, staying in his house without even a proper greeting.
Why bother arguing with a kid, though? Jason thought to himself, continuing his meal while thinking about which old classmates he might reach out to the next day. Although he had plenty of classmates in the county, he had only kept in touch with a handful since college.
Furthermore, asking for money nowadays was tough. Even close family members might not be willing to lend a hand. His older brother, a struggling farmer, often needed financial support. If necessary, he would have to turn to his former colleagues.
Kevin quickly finished his meal. They say a full stomach often leads to wayward thoughts. As he watched Audrey and Jason eat in silence, he suddenly recalled flirting with Cynthia in front of Edgar the day before. It sparked something inside him.
He had been living with Audrey for almost six months, and their intimate moments had become routine. Although they could be intimate whenever they pleased, the spark had started to fade. The last time he felt any real excitement was during anal play with Alissa. Now that Jason was back, it seemed like the perfect time to try seducing Audrey right under Jason's nose. "Oops!" Audrey mused about the real reason behind Jason's sudden return to Harmony County when she suddenly felt a soft touch on her leg. Glancing down, she caught sight of Kevin's toes playfully caressing her calf. She couldn't help but feel a mix of amusement and annoyance. Kevin was certainly bold, making advances even with her husband sitting right there.
She initially shot him a warning look, but Kevin ignored her silent caution, continuing to tease her leg, causing a tickling sensation.
Normally, she might have entertained Kevin's antics, but not now. With Jason right next to her, the risk was too high. Moreover, her integrity as a wife prevented her from engaging in such suggestive behavior. It went against her values.
Pulling her slender leg away to evade Kevin's mischievous toes, she found him unwilling to give up, extending his leg further to pursue her.
Jason's presence turned this initially dull game into something far more compelling.
For Kevin, the thrill of seducing a married woman was far greater than pursuing a single one.
"Hey guys, why don't you focus on eating? There's plenty of food here," Jason said, noticing Audrey and Kevin setting down their utensils, oblivious to the covert game happening under the table.
Eventually, Audrey found herself cornered by Kevin's persistent foot, with no room to escape. Sensing his toes inching up her calf towards her thigh, she reached her breaking point.
"No!"
Audrey mouthed to Kevin, shaking her head slowly, her gaze now firm and resolute. She needed to put an end to Kevin's reckless advances before things went any further. She understood that Kevin was likely channeling his frustrations through his actions.
After months of living together, Kevin had learned to read Audrey's temperament. Despite her easygoing nature, her values were unwavering. No matter how intimate they were, she would never compromise her principles or engage in conflict.
Sometimes, Kevin thought Audrey was more suited to be the Dean of Students than Elodie. If that had been the case, she would undoubtedly have become the most captivating Dean of Students in the history of Sunset Valley High.
