Chapter 926 The Struggle of a Trapped Beast
But he didn't want Audrey to be deceived. In the end, Harry took out a USB drive from his pocket and handed it to Audrey, hesitating as he said, "Mrs. Johnson, there are some things here that I hope you can take a look at." With that, he quickly walked away.
Audrey took the USB drive, looking surprised at Harry's departing figure. She misunderstood his intentions, thinking that perhaps Harry had something to say but felt awkward to say it in person, so he put it on the USB drive. Blushing, she put away the USB drive. Although she had a good impression of this police officer, she was a married woman and couldn't accept his affection.
The competition in the semi-finals was fierce, but Audrey managed to make it to the finals by a narrow margin, even entering the top ten. She was thrilled that she could finally fulfill her promise to Derek.
That evening, she went to the hotel where Derek was staying and said to him, "Derek, I have fulfilled my promise to you. Here is a hundred thousand dollars. I will slowly repay the rest to you." Derek took the bank card handed to him by Audrey, threw it directly into the trash can, and chuckled, saying, "Mrs. Johnson, you are too naive. Do you really think I care about this little money?"
"Derek, what do you mean? We signed a contract at the beginning, and it clearly stated that as long as I made it to the top ten, you would let me go, right?" Audrey said indignantly. Although she had considered the possibility of Derek reneging before coming, she still had a glimmer of hope, thinking that he was at least the son of a big conglomerate, not a thug. But Derek still showed his true colors.
"Mrs. Johnson, the women I set my eyes on never escape. Since you are here tonight, don't leave," Derek said with a smile as he walked over. "Stay, I just need you to accompany me for one night."
Audrey cautiously took a few steps back, regretting her impulsive visit. She could only swallow her pride and say, "Derek, don't do anything rash. I will call the police."
"Don't worry, I won't force you. I never like to do things that ruin the mood," Derek smiled faintly. "I just want you to see something." He pressed a remote control, and a door on the wall next to them slowly opened, revealing an exquisitely gorgeous black evening gown. It shimmered under the light, captivating Audrey, even though she didn't know what material the gown was made of, it was clearly valuable.
"This was crafted by twelve renowned Italian designers commissioned by the group. It took three months to complete, and the entire outfit cost over thirty million dollars. The winner of the Starhaven Miss Contest will wear this gown on the award stage in front of everyone, becoming the Starhaven Miss. There is also a chance to step onto the international stage and participate in a series of international beauty pageants, where she will be admired by countless people," Derek said to Audrey. "As long as you agree to stay with me tonight, I guarantee you will become the champion of this competition. You won't have to endure a hard life with your incompetent husband anymore. You will undergo a transformation, entering the high society that every woman dreams of. You don't need to rush to refuse me. Think about it. Not every woman has this opportunity. I have chosen you, it's your luck. I hope you seize it."
Derek wasn't lying; he didn't need to. As the actual manager of the competition, many contestants did their best to get close to him, wanting to catch his attention. After all, with his approval, they could transform themselves and change their destinies completely.
However, Audrey decisively said, "I'm sorry, Derek, I'm really not interested in beauty pageants. You should find someone else. I'm leaving."
Derek's face changed. He didn't expect Audrey to resist his temptation. Over the years, relying on his wealthy status, he had played with many women, and no woman had ever rejected him. Even a few chaste women would surrender as long as he used money. They would climb into his bed and let him have his way. But this woman was even more stubborn than he had imagined.
His face darkened as he grabbed the bottle of brandy on the table and drank heavily. He felt restless and uneasy, which was unusual for him. He had to have this woman; otherwise, he would feel like a clown.
Audrey quickly walked out of the hotel's entrance, feeling relieved but with cold sweat on her palms. If Derek had insisted on keeping her, she wouldn't have had any way to resist.
At that moment, a Maserati drove up, blocking Audrey's path. Derek leaned out and sneered, saying, "Mrs. Johnson, my patience is limited. I'll give you one more chance. Get in the car now, and I can overlook what happened. If you leave now, I hope you won't regret it."
"Derek, you don't need to threaten me," Audrey said, pale-faced and trembling. "This is America, not China. No matter how rich you are, you can't do whatever you want. I don't believe you can control everything. If you have the guts, run me over with your car."
"Haha, would I do such a thing?" Derek chuckled. "Besides, you're so beautiful. I can't bear to harm you. But I can't say the same for your husband. If one day he gets his legs broken, stuffed into a sack, and thrown into the sea, don't say I didn't warn you."
"Shameless and despicable!" Audrey trembled with anger upon hearing Derek's threat. She never expected him to use Jason's life to threaten her. She had thought Derek was not that bad, at least a man with some principles. But now she realized he was a demon.
"Mrs. Johnson!" Suddenly, a man walked briskly towards them. It was Harry, with a serious expression as he approached Audrey, looking coldly at Derek in the car. "Who are you, and what do you want?"
"Officer, what are you doing here?" Audrey was pleasantly surprised to see Harry. She pointed at Derek and said, "He threatened me just now, and I recorded everything." She took out her phone, showing the recording.
"Mrs. Johnson, don't be afraid. With me here, he won't dare touch you," Harry, although not sure who the man in front of him was, understood that he was wealthy and influential. He calmly said, "Please leave immediately, or I will call the police."
"Mrs. Johnson, I didn't expect you to have a police friend. That's quite surprising," Derek laughed. "But it doesn't matter. I haven't done anything wrong. By the way, I'm quite close to the chief of the Starhaven Police Department. Should I give him a call and have him come over?"
Harry's expression changed. It was evident that Derek was no ordinary person. His contemptuous tone was genuine, and he definitely knew the chief of police. It seemed that Audrey had provoked someone she shouldn't have. As a mere police officer, what could he do? He softened his tone and said, "Friend, let's be lenient. If my friend has offended you in any way, I apologize on her behalf. I believe you are a person of status. It would be embarrassing to trouble a woman. This is the internet age. Even if you know the mayor of Starhaven, once it's exposed online, do you think they will still protect you? Don't drag others down with you."
Derek didn't really intend to harm Audrey. He just felt embarrassed earlier and, under the influence of alcohol, followed her out. Seeing Harry step in, he had already sobered up and, somewhat annoyed, said to Audrey, "Mrs. Johnson, think about my words carefully. I'm doing this for your own good." With that, he was about to drive away.
However, at that moment, a Hummer suddenly rushed over, its bright headlights blinding everyone. A man got out of the car, sneering as he said, "Harry, do you still recognize me?"
Harry squinted to identify the man and was shocked to see that it was the fugitive Peter. The police had been searching for Peter's whereabouts, and according to intelligence, Peter had fled to Starhaven. Despite the police's extensive search, they hadn't found him. Harry instinctively reached for his gun.
But Peter was prepared. He pulled out a gun and aimed it at Harry, gritting his teeth as he said, "You've ruined me. Today, I'll show you how capable I am."
"Peter, you're out of your mind! Put the gun down!" Derek's face turned ashen. He hadn't expected Peter to come out of the villa and seek revenge on Harry. This was giving him a handle to be used against him. He regretted not sending Peter away immediately.
"Derek, this is none of your business. This is a personal matter between him and me," Peter aimed the gun at Harry, his eyes shifting to Audrey, who was visibly frightened. He chuckled, "Beauty, we meet again. It seems we are destined to be together. Last time in Aetheria, you managed to escape. Let's see where you can run now."
Audrey recognized Peter at this moment, her face showing fear. Wasn't this man in Aetheria? How did he suddenly appear in Starhaven, holding a gun at Harry? He should know that Harry was a police officer. Was he suicidal?
"Peter, you are suspected of involvement in illicit activities such as sex and drug trafficking at the Aetheria club. The police have evidence of your crimes, but they haven't acted yet. Do you think you can escape justice?" Harry faced the dark barrel of the gun but remained calm. "If you run a lawful business and don't cause trouble, no one will bother you. This is all your own doing. I hope you surrender to the police. We can be lenient with you. Our policy has always been leniency for confession and severity for resistance. I hope you don't make things worse."
"Are you trying to fool me? Even if I committed ten times the crimes, death by firing squad would be enough," Peter laughed like a trapped beast. "I've had enough in this life. Even if I die, I'll drag someone down with me." He aimed the gun at Harry, ready to pull the trigger.
"Stop!" Audrey suddenly stood in front of Harry, biting her lip. "You want me, right? Let him go, and I'll meet your demands."
Peter was taken aback, then laughed, "I didn't expect you to be so fond of this pretty boy. Alright, I'll give you a chance. Now, take off your clothes for me, and I'll let him go. How about that?"
"Mrs. Johnson, don't listen to him," Harry's face darkened. As a police officer, he couldn't let an ordinary person protect him. "Step aside."
Derek was also anxious and shouted at Peter, "You damn bastard, Peter, have you lost your mind? Get the hell out of here!"
Bang! The Maserati's front end was suddenly pierced by a large hole. Derek sat on the ground in shock, wetting himself from the scare. He hadn't expected Peter to shoot at him. He felt a foul smell emanating from his pants, realizing he had wet himself out of fear.
"Damn it, I hate being threatened," Peter aimed the gun at Audrey again, grinning. "Beauty, are you going to undress or not? My patience is limited."
