Chapter 1055 Stimulating Events

"Alright, go back now and be more cautious in the future," Lola glanced at Albert, gesturing dismissively with a noticeably softer tone than before.

"Goodbye, Lola." Albert could hardly believe his ears as Lola simply let him go. Could it be that her conscience had intervened? Hastily retreating, he exited the Administration and Education Office, a cold sweat trailing down his back. Only then did he feel a sense of relief. Reflecting on the recent episode, a sense of pride surged within him—able to climax while embracing the old witch's ample buttocks and still walk away unscathed, he felt unmatched at Sunset Valley High School.

"Albert, why are you back so soon?" Kevin, seeing Albert stride into the classroom with confidence, was taken aback. He had expected Albert to spend at least two hours in the Administration and Education Office. "You didn't sneak away while the old witch wasn't looking, did you? Aren't you afraid she'll come after you?"

"Nonsense, do you think I'm that useless? Even that old witch dares not give me trouble," Albert scoffed arrogantly. "With just a glance from me, she'd have to kneel and kiss my toes. Don't mess with me."

"Albert, are you okay?" Kevin scrutinized his friend, his eyebrows furrowed slightly. A sense of concern crept in—was Albert being tormented by Lola, an uncharacteristic situation for him?

Crossing his arms, Albert sighed wistfully, uttering each word deliberately, "Thirty years on the east bank of the river, thirty years on the west bank, never scorn the poor youth!"

Witnessing Albert's pretentious demeanor, Kevin's face twitched involuntarily. Suddenly overwhelmed with the urge to retaliate, he found Albert's attitude insufferable.

After dinner in the cafeteria, Albert dragged Kevin to the restroom for a smoke, lamenting, "Our good days are over. Classes during the day, self-study until 10 at night, and even self-study on Saturdays... What's left for just one day on Sundays? My Assassin's Creed game isn't even finished yet."

"You missed the afternoon rally; didn't the seniors mention that this year is crucial for the sophomores? It's a year of polarization," Kevin sighed, "This is just the beginning; things will get even more intense in senior year. You want to play games while cramming to even take a dump."

"Sigh, two more years to endure. It's despairing to think about," Albert exhaled a puff of smoke indifferently. "I don't expect to get into a good university. If I can't make it in the domestic scene, I'll just go to Australia for university—a degree is a degree after all."

Many children of officials followed this path: if they couldn't enter a domestic university, they'd pay to attend a subpar university in Australia or Canada, earning a degree to secure employment upon their return.

Albert's father, Barrett, served as the Director of City Planning, overseeing significant urban infrastructure projects. Sending his son abroad for studies was a simple feat given their considerable resources and Evelyn's overindulgence of Albert.

"Albert, studying abroad is a last resort. You've just begun sophomore year, with two full years ahead. There's still time to turn things around. Why give up so early?" Kevin reasoned, "When Laura, Lucy, and I attend universities domestically, you going abroad will be lonely."

"But with my poor grades, studying is futile," Albert sighed, resigned. "I'm not cut out for academics like you."

"You're not dumb; you're just lazy!" Kevin bluntly stated. "How is it that when gaming, you grasp everything effortlessly? Albert, don't undermine yourself. Unless you challenge yourself, you'll never uncover your true potential. Don't make me lose respect for you."

Taken aback by Kevin's intensity, Albert glanced at him in surprise. Knowing Kevin for seven to eight years, it was the first time he'd heard such serious words from him. Chuckling, Albert remarked, "Kevin, what's gotten into you? You're so serious, one might think you've been possessed by the old witch herself."

"Albert, I'm not joking around. While your dad can set you up in Australia and secure a job for you, can he manage your life forever?" Kevin's tone remained calm as he continued, "You can't rely on parents forever. Each person has only one life—why not take control of yours? These three years of high school are crucial; I don't want to see you drift aimlessly. Show some backbone, be a man, or else everyone, including Laura and Lucy, will look down on you. Do you really want to be a wimp?"

"Damn it!" Face flushing, Albert tossed his cigarette butt to the ground, gritting his teeth. "Kevin, stop talking. I'll give it my all. Let everyone see that I'm not a wimp."

"That's the spirit. From now on, Laura, Lucy, and I will keep an eye on you. If you study seriously, you'll definitely catch up," Kevin chuckled inwardly. Albert wasn't unintelligent, but his privileged circumstances, coupled with Evelyn's excessive pampering, had shielded him from academic pressure.

In the evening at 6:30, the school building was aglow with lights as most classes delved into evening study sessions. Students sat at their desks, fervently reciting English passages, while duty teachers patrolled the corridors, monitoring classroom activities.

Assigned duty that night, Audrey inspected various classrooms before arriving at Room 57. Seeing Kevin engrossed in his studies, she couldn't help but smile at his focused demeanor. If Kevin could maintain this level of dedication, she didn't mind the ambiguous relationship they shared. However, at times, she found it difficult to discern whether Kevin needed her more or she needed him.

"Mr.Jones..." A soft voice behind her startled Audrey. Turning around, she found Kimberly, heaving a sigh of relief. "What were you up to, sneaking around like a ghost? You scared me."

"I think you're the one with a guilty conscience," Kimberly teased with a hint of sophistication. "Why were you in our class just now? You were so engrossed in watching someone. Remember, the principal emphasized on cultivating professionalism and ethics. Don't knowingly break the rules and become an example of misconduct."

"Don't talk nonsense," Audrey blushed slightly, swiftly explaining, "I was just keeping an eye on Kevin—he insisted. He's my cousin; I had no choice."

"You seem quite invested in this cousin of yours," Kimberly smiled gently, exuding a mature charm. "Sophomore year is crucial, and parents are anxious. I've been receiving calls from many parents recently, all wanting me to reinforce their children's English. I don't have that much time, and cramming for English isn't effective anyway."
