The next step is to see if we can get you nominated for the city level. If you can secure a spot at the city level, it will greatly help with your promotion. "Thank you for your help, Mr. Jones," Audrey replied with a faint smile. "I will continue to work hard. Whether I get the outstanding title or not, I will focus on doing my job well."
Audrey knew that Oliver must have pulled some strings for her application to go so smoothly. She didn't want to accept his kindness without reason. "Don't rush, Mrs. Johnson," Oliver said with a smile. "There's another matter. The city is organizing a training program for key teachers, with renowned professors from the province giving lectures. It will last for about two months during the summer break. I'm wondering if you're interested. I can nominate you for it. Each school only has one spot, so it's quite a rare opportunity."
Audrey was taken aback. She did want to attend the training to improve her skills, but she had already promised her husband to visit him in the city. At least half a month would be needed for the visit, conflicting with the training program. If she chose the training, she would have to give up seeing her husband. They hadn't seen each other for over half a year, and skipping the summer visit meant waiting until the winter break. By then, her husband might not even be back. They couldn't go a whole year without seeing each other.
Audrey also wanted to have a serious talk with her husband, persuading him to come back to the city for better opportunities. So, she hesitated and said, "Thank you, Mr. Jones. I have some personal matters during the summer break, so I'm afraid I won't be able to attend. Please arrange for another teacher."
"Well, that's a shame," Oliver was surprised by Audrey's refusal. He hadn't expected her to decline his offer so decisively. He couldn't help but persuade her, "Mrs. Johnson, could you reconsider? This is a rare opportunity. If you attend, you'll receive a special certificate upon completion, which holds more weight than the training you've had before. If there's nothing urgent, I suggest you give it a try."
"No, thank you, Mr. Jones," Audrey firmly shook her head, standing up and facing Oliver. "I really can't make it. Thank you for the offer. I'll head back now," she said, turning towards the door.
As Audrey's tall and alluring figure disappeared from the doorway, Oliver's expression turned slightly crestfallen. He had hoped to send Audrey to the provincial training, where she would stay for a full two months. Being alone, she might have felt lonely, giving him a chance to offer her warmth. Perhaps he could win her heart and fully possess this enticing teacher with her captivating figure. But Audrey's straightforward refusal caught him off guard. This woman was not easy to handle.
Oliver pondered for a moment, considering whether to send Vanessa instead. However, he quickly dismissed the idea. While Vanessa had spent a night with him, he had treated her fairly. Sending her to the city for training was already a good gesture. Besides, Vanessa's focus was not on teaching, and it would be a waste to give her this training opportunity. In the end, Oliver decided to give the training opportunity to Alissa, the head teacher of Class 57.
