Chapter 1797

"That's true," Audrey said, not wanting to dwell on the topic. She quickly changed the subject, asking, "So, which unit did you end up getting?"

"I snagged one on the first floor," Kimberly replied. "And you?"

"I'm up on the second floor," Audrey replied with a slight smile. "Alissa's on the third. It'll be so easy for us to hang out and visit each other."

"Totally," Kimberly said, stealing a glance at Kevin, who had been quiet. Feeling like ignoring him might raise Audrey's suspicions, she took the lead and said, "Hey, Kevin, you did pretty well on those finals. I peeked at your paper, and you just need to brush up on your grammar. Winter break is the perfect time to work on that."

"Sure thing, Ms. Rivera," Kevin finally met Kimberly's eyes, and both felt a bit awkward.

Meanwhile, Audrey affectionately took Kimberly's hand and suggested, "Let's go check out your place. I can give you some decorating tips."

Kimberly couldn't say no and led Audrey and Kevin into her first-floor unit. The layout was just like Audrey's place, but being on the ground floor, the living room opened up to a small garden outside the balcony.

"This is lovely. You could grow flowers and veggies out here," Audrey said wistfully, knowing Kimberly's potential for a green thumb.

"I'm not much of a gardener," Kimberly admitted. "I'm thinking of sprucing this area up with wooden flooring, a sun umbrella, a table, and some lounge chairs. It'd be perfect for weekend coffee chats."

"That sounds great," Audrey agreed with a smile. "We could invite Alissa over too and have card nights."

"How would three of us play?" Kimberly looked puzzled. She was only close to Alissa and Audrey. While she interacted with a few colleagues, they didn't live in the building.

"I can play poker," Kevin chimed in.

"What are you doing here?" Audrey shot Kevin a look. "Kimberly just told you to hit the books. It goes for all subjects. You gotta practice regularly to learn. Can't just think about playing games."

Audrey's phone rang, saving Kevin from further scolding. It was her mom calling, so she stepped aside to take the call.

On the balcony, Kevin and Kimberly stood in an awkward silence. Kimberly glanced at Kevin, feeling a pang in her heart. Her relationship with her husband, Grant, had been improving during this time.

She had visited the town where Grant worked and understood the challenges he faced. Grant had mentioned wanting to transfer back, not wanting her to be alone. Kimberly chose not to dwell on the rumors about her husband. Some things were best left ignored. As long as Grant didn't cross any lines, she was willing to let it go. After all, what other option did she have? Divorce? It sounded simple in theory, but in reality, who could make such a decisive move? They weren't just dating; they were married, and it impacted every aspect of their lives.

Kevin was also uneasy. He didn't know how to act around Kimberly. Once a physical relationship had occurred between a man and a woman, things couldn't just go back to how they were. It either had to progress further or they had to avoid each other. But since he and Kimberly had to interact frequently, it posed a challenge.

Glancing at Kimberly, he found her looking back at him. Their eyes met, creating a moment of discomfort. He quickly averted his gaze, but his eyes landed on Kimberly's attractive legs clad in black stockings. Her legs were truly alluring, slender and well-shaped, not too thin, with graceful calves and shapely thighs. Encased in stockings, they looked even more enticing, especially paired with her perky rear and slim waist. Kimberly was undeniably a standout at Sunset Valley High School, almost on par with Audrey and Vanessa. Among the students, she was highly popular. Even Kevin had harbored a crush on Kimberly for a while. Vanessa was too flirtatious, Audrey too distant, but Kimberly had a gentle demeanor and a welcoming aura. She was someone Kevin felt comfortable confiding in.

Noticing Kevin's gaze on her legs, Kimberly blushed slightly, shot him a look, and whispered, "Watch it, Audrey's still around."

The remark held a hint of ambiguity, suggesting to Kevin that he could look freely when Audrey wasn't present. However, he didn't dare to jest with her now and quietly shifted his focus to the bare trees outside the balcony as the sky dimmed.

Audrey wrapped up her call and approached, suggesting, "Kimberly, how about grabbing dinner together?"

"No, Grant's expecting me home," Kimberly replied calmly.

"Alright, let's plan something after the New Year. We'll have plenty of chances once we're neighbors," Audrey said, not pressing the matter, and left the staff quarters with Kevin.

Back at home, Audrey headed for a shower, leaving Kevin to cook. Absentmindedly washing the vegetables, he couldn't shake off the complex expression in Kimberly's eyes before they parted. Surprisingly, a pang of loss hit his heart. What was going on with him? He knew his feelings for Audrey were paramount, so why did he feel a twinge of reluctance when faced with Kimberly?

Was he truly a jerk, moving from one person to the next? What did he truly feel for Kimberly? Was it merely physical attraction or something deeper? He couldn't quite articulate it, but the memories of intimacy with Kimberly lingered vividly, refusing to fade.

Perhaps Kimberly was just a prologue. Evelyn, Alissa, Natalie, Grace, Daisy, and Audrey – one by one, they would eventually drift away from him. All that would remain were shattered memories.

Recalling that day, Kevin was suddenly overwhelmed with profound sadness. His eyes even welled up. Absentmindedly wiping his eyes, he realized he was chopping onions, which only intensified his tears.

Just then, Audrey entered the kitchen post-shower and found Kevin in tears. Concerned, she asked, "Kevin, what's the matter? Did you hurt yourself? Let me see." She took his hand and inspected it carefully.

Gazing at Audrey's lovely face and hearing her soothing voice, Kevin pondered how all of this could vanish one day. He reached out and embraced her, choking out, "Audrey, please don't leave me."

Surprised, Audrey responded, "Don't cry. What's going on? When did I ever say I'd leave you?" She gently patted his shoulder and reassured him, "It's okay, what's troubling you?"

After a while, Kevin's tears subsided, and he felt a tinge of embarrassment. He was already a sophomore; how could he break down like this? Hastily, he clarified, "Audrey, I'm okay. Chopping onions just stung my eyes."

"You're such a scaredy-cat. I thought something serious had happened," Audrey chuckled softly, tied on an apron, and said, "Alright, go freshen up. I'll handle the rest."

By the time Kevin finished his shower, dinner was ready.

"Audrey, why is this so plain? Where's the meat?" Kevin grumbled. He was a true meat lover."Eat up those veggies. They're good for you," Audrey handed Kevin his utensils, teasing, "Gotta keep that nutrition balanced. And hey, eggs count as a meat dish, right?"

"How can eggs be meat?" Kevin looked puzzled.

"Then what do you think hatches from eggs?" Audrey grinned mischievously, serving herself some veggies.

"Chicks."

"Chickens are meat."

Kevin was left speechless. That was quite a stretch.

"I'm not saying you can't have meat," Audrey said, "I just don't want you getting a stomach ache. Stick out your tongue; let me see your tongue coating."

"Audrey, I'm not in kindergarten. Why check my tongue coating?" Kevin sounded annoyed.

"You don't have to show me. Then you'll be sleeping solo tonight," Audrey teased, flashing a smile.

"What!" Kevin was taken aback and promptly stuck out his tongue. Being blackmailed like this was ridiculous.

"Okay," Audrey inspected Kevin's tongue coating, "but still, watch what you eat. Don't overdo it and upset your stomach."

"Audrey, are you a teacher or a doctor?" Kevin grumbled as he polished off all three dishes.

After dinner, they tidied up together. Audrey sliced an apple and placed it on the living room table. They snuggled up and watched a TV drama. Kevin hugged Audrey, his hand wandering to her smooth thigh. Audrey didn't pay much mind, letting him fool around.

But soon, Kevin felt restless. He slid his hand under her nightgown, cupping her ample breasts and teasing her nipples.

"Knock it off," Audrey's nipples perked up under Kevin's touch, sending shivers through her. Blushing slightly, she scolded, "I'm trying to watch TV."

"You focus on your show, I'll focus on mine," Kevin quipped, his fingers still at play, enjoying Audrey's lovely curves. They even chatted about the TV show's plot.

Audrey couldn't concentrate on the TV. Her nipples were tingling, and even her core felt a buzz. While they said the initial spark might fade in a long-term relationship, she and Kevin had only been together for about six months, still in the honeymoon phase. Confronted with Kevin's advances, her body responded eagerly.

As Kevin's touch ventured south, Audrey's body quivered. Gasping, she murmured, "You naughty thing. We already had our fun earlier. Why start this again?"
