Chapter 927 Return to Hometown

"Mrs. Johnson, quickly put on your clothes, don't believe his words," Harry quickly looked away, clenched his fists, wishing he could punch that damn guy to pieces, this desperado wouldn't spare him.

"Hehe, beauty, you do have a great figure, sleep with me, and I'll let you go," Peter's eyes scanned Audrey's voluptuous body, his gaze greedy, "Take off your underwear for me."

It was late at night, and there were hardly any people at the hotel entrance. However, there were still three men in front of her. If she were completely naked in front of them, Audrey hesitated a bit. But if she didn't comply, the other party might shoot.

With this in mind, Audrey closed her eyes, reached behind to unhook her bra. Just as those two large, round breasts were about to be fully exposed, Peter was suddenly captivated. This woman was too attractive; he had to have her tonight no matter what.

At that moment, Harry seized the opportunity and suddenly pulled out a gun, pushing Audrey away and aiming at Peter's arm, firing a shot. Peter, showing his true colors, despite being hit in the arm, didn't drop the gun. Instead, he aimed at Harry and fired a shot, hitting him right in the heart.

"Officer!" Audrey instinctively rushed over, embracing Harry, tears streaming down her face.

After firing the gun, Peter also came to his senses. He had killed a police officer and had to leave immediately. He quickly got into a Hummer and roared away.

Derek sat on the ground, watching Harry coughing up blood not far away, feeling dizzy. This was bad; things had escalated. Not only could he not protect Peter, but the Venture Capital Group might also be implicated.

"Mrs. Johnson, don't cry," Harry, pale but smiling, said, "I'm a police officer. Protecting you is our duty. You must live well. Starhaven isn't as bad as you think. We will catch all the bad guys sooner or later."

"I know, officer, you have to hang in there, please hang in there," Audrey cried uncontrollably, dialing 911 on her phone. But she felt the man in her arms getting colder, his breath fading.

In the late night, Starhaven suddenly rang with piercing sirens. Police cars poured out of the police station, even officers with live ammunition, setting up roadblocks and checking vehicles at every intersection. A dragnet was cast, sealing off Starhaven completely. Each police officer was filled with anger, vowing to bring the audacious criminal who dared to shoot a police officer to justice.

Meanwhile, Audrey quietly returned to her residence. Jason was in the room, drinking alone. Seeing his wife return, he frowned and said, "Where have you been, wife? Why did you come back so late? You've been going out alone all this time. Are you hiding something from me?"

Ignoring her husband, Audrey walked to the bed, sitting down with bloodstains on her body. Jason finally noticed the bloodstains on her and was startled. He hurried over, stuttering, "Wife, what happened? Did something happen? Please don't scare me."

Seeing her drunken husband, Audrey suddenly felt disheartened. Without answering his questions, she calmly said, "Jason, I'm going back to my hometown. I'm leaving tomorrow."

"What?! You're going back to your hometown?" Jason was surprised. "Why?"

"It's nothing. I've been here for almost a month," Audrey said calmly. "School starts in a month, and I still have lessons to prepare for the next semester. Besides, I don't have much purpose here. I'd rather go back to my hometown."

"Wife, are you angry?" Jason sat beside Audrey, holding her hand. "I know I've been a bit down these days. Don't worry, I'll go find a job tomorrow. And I promise, I'll find a really good job that will satisfy you. Do you trust me? Can you stay with me for another week?"

"Jason, I trust you," Audrey said. "But I still want to go back to my hometown. If you're willing, you can come with me."

"I can't go back," Jason instinctively shook his head. If he had made a lot of money by now, he wouldn't mind going back with Audrey. But in his current state, going back would surely invite ridicule from acquaintances. His pride couldn't handle the judgmental looks.

"Suit yourself," Audrey stood up, glanced at her husband, feeling at that moment that this man had nothing to do with her, and she no longer cared about him as she did in the past.

The next morning at ten o'clock, Peter was found in a cemetery on the outskirts of Starhaven by the police, directly taken into custody, awaiting legal judgment.

The Venture Capital Group also welcomed the arrival of the Starhaven City Joint Investigation Team, investigating the company for serious crimes such as smuggling, tax evasion, and several executives were taken in for questioning. Deputy General Manager Derek was also under investigation for allegations of group licentiousness and rape, causing panic within the Venture Capital Group, and even the beauty pageant was forced to halt.

Meanwhile, Audrey quietly boarded the northbound bullet train, leaving this city that she couldn't describe. This trip south had been too much for her to bear. If she had known so much would happen, she would have preferred to stay in her hometown. But everything couldn't be undone.

As the bullet train slowly pulled out of the station, Audrey sat in her seat, closed her eyes, memories of what had happened in Starhaven flashing through her mind. Faces passed by her eyes—Dave, Herbert, Terrence, George, Harry, Peter, Derek... Suddenly, these faces all turned into fragments, and the last familiar face appeared in her mind, her cousin Kevin's face, the only face that could bring her warmth now.
She really wanted to tell Kevin that she was going back to her hometown, but thinking about the hurt she had caused him, Audrey hesitated. She held the phone, unsure whether to call him or not.

Just then, the phone beeped, and Audrey looked down, holding her breath. It was a text message from Kevin.

"Sis, are you okay? I miss you. I heard about the recent incidents in Starhaven. Please stay safe, take care of yourself. I'll wait for your return."

Reading the message, Audrey was overwhelmed with emotions. Her nose tingled, tears welled up, and she couldn't help but cry softly, realizing how she had treated Kevin. Despite her coldness, Kevin still cared about her safety. She had been wrong.

Back in her hometown, Kevin sat on the sofa at home, feeling uneasy as he looked at his phone. He had just seen the news about the recent crackdown in Starhaven, where a drug trafficking gang was busted, and a police officer was killed in retaliation by a fugitive. He was worried about Audrey's safety and couldn't help but send her a text message.

But after sending it, he regretted it, feeling a bit foolish. Since Audrey had been so resolute in her previous message, why bother reaching out to her now?

Besides, he had no shortage of women around him at the moment—Alissa, Grace, Evelyn, and Natalie, with whom he had been passionately involved in recent days. They were all attractive, both in looks and skills in bed, making him infatuated. Why chase after an impossible outcome with Audrey?

With the Clearbrook tourism project bidding starting up these days, Natalie had been busy preparing her bid, so Kevin hadn't had time for her. He had taken this time to rest, but the intense physical relationship with the alluring woman had left him feeling a bit overwhelmed.

However, the novelty of their sexual encounters had worn off, and Kevin found himself plunged into extreme emptiness. While Natalie brought him indescribable physical pleasure, it was nothing like the sweet feeling he had with Audrey. He genuinely liked Audrey, not just her body. Being with her made him feel comfortable.

As time passed, Audrey still hadn't replied to the message. Kevin felt a pang of bitterness, realizing that his cousin had made up her mind to ignore him. He decided to go find Natalie instead.

He was about to call Natalie to ask if she had finished her bidding work when his phone beeped. Kevin's heart raced as he checked the message—it was from Audrey.

Audrey had actually replied to him. Kevin was so excited he almost jumped up. He took a deep breath before opening the message.

"Kevin, I'll arrive at Starfall Town train station at 7:15 tonight. Come pick me up."

What? Had he read it correctly? Was his sister really coming back?

Kevin was stunned, afraid he had misread the message. He read it over several times before confirming that Audrey was indeed coming back. He was overjoyed but also confused about Audrey's attitude after her previous resolute message. After some thought, he sent another text to Audrey, "Sis, are you not mad at me anymore?"

A few seconds later, Audrey replied, "Kevin, I was wrong. I'm sorry."

Seeing those last three words, Kevin felt a wave of relief wash over him. It was as if all the clouds had dispersed, and the sun was shining brightly again. Holding his phone, he grinned. His cousin had actually apologized to him. It felt like a miracle.

Unable to contain his excitement, Kevin called Audrey. When he heard her familiar voice on the other end, he was so thrilled that he couldn't even speak.

"Hello, Kevin, why are you so quiet?" Audrey's voice was soft and gentle, as if it came from another world. Although it had only been a little over a week since he last heard Audrey's voice, Kevin felt like it had been a century.

"Sis, I'm just so happy," Kevin took a deep breath. "I didn't expect you to come back so soon. I'll go to the train station now to pick you up."

"Silly, I just left Starhaven. It'll take ten hours to get to Starfall Town. Why did you go so early?" Audrey scolded.

"I just wanted to see you early, sis. I miss you so much," Kevin said. "I've missed you to death."

Hearing Kevin's heartfelt confession, Audrey's emotions surged. Unlike before, she didn't resist as much this time and softly said, "Kevin, I miss you too."

After going through so many ups and downs, leaving her physically and emotionally exhausted, hearing Kevin's voice at that moment made Audrey feel at ease. She cast all her worries aside, even regretting not taking a plane to see Kevin sooner.

For the next hour, Kevin and Audrey chatted on the phone. Most of the time, Kevin did the talking while Audrey listened. Eventually, Audrey's phone battery ran low, and she had to end the call.

Looking at the time, it was only ten in the morning. There were still nine hours until seven in the evening, and Kevin paced anxiously in the living room, wishing time would pass quickly.

Meanwhile, on the train, Audrey lay in bed, unable to sleep, watching the scenery outside the window recede. Starhaven was getting farther away, while her hometown was getting closer. Thinking that she would soon see Kevin filled her with infinite joy and happiness, a stark contrast to the heavy, oppressive feelings she had in Starhaven.

Perhaps Audrey had never fully let go of the boy who made her feel both love and hate. After a month of separation and longing, the siblings were about to reunite once again!
