Chapter 1203
Audrey was at a loss for words. Alissa had dropped all her teacherly dignity and was acting like a total flirt. But Audrey had to admit, Alissa had a point. Even the prettiest flower needed rain to thrive.
As they reached the intersection and were about to go their separate ways, Audrey had a thought. "Hey, Alissa, why don't you and Kevin start coming over to my place?"
Alissa looked surprised and teased, "Oh, you want a threesome? I didn't know you were so adventurous. Kevin's brought it up a few times, but I never dared to mention it. If you're cool with it, I'm game."
"Alissa, that's not what I meant!" Audrey's face turned bright red. "I just think it's too risky at school, and your place isn't convenient. I'm living alone now. I'll give you a spare key to my house. Feel free to come over anytime, and I'll be at school."
"Thanks, Audrey." Alissa finally got it and laughed. "But seriously, a threesome doesn't sound too bad. You should think about it."
"Alissa, you're starting to sound like Kevin! His mind is always in the gutter. I'm gonna have to set him straight." Audrey was both embarrassed and annoyed. She stormed off but slowed down after a few steps, her mind racing with Alissa's suggestion.
Truth be told, Audrey wasn't entirely against the idea of a threesome. Alissa wasn't a stranger, and she had a thing with Kevin too. But Audrey didn't want to make it too easy for Kevin. If he got everything he wanted right away, he'd be hard to control later. It was necessary to let Kevin get what he wanted gradually, so he would appreciate it.
Lost in thought, Audrey's phone suddenly rang. It was Angus. She hesitated before answering, "Mr. White, hi. What's up?"
"Sorry to call so late, Audrey," Angus's voice was calm and reassuring. "I wanted to ask if you'd be interested in working at our Department of Education?"
Audrey was caught off guard, not sure what he meant.
"We're short-staffed and need to borrow some folks from other units. These positions might become permanent," Angus explained. "It's a rare chance. If you're interested, I can get you transferred to your local education department first, then to the city. By the way, your colleague Vanessa might be coming over too, so you'll have a familiar face around."
Audrey finally got it. Vanessa had been working on this for a while. If she really got transferred to the city's Department of Education, it would be better than staying at the school in Harmony County. It seemed Vanessa had been in touch with Angus all along. But Audrey didn't want to leave Sunset Valley High School. After the whole Quentin mess, she felt she wasn't cut out for the political games in government departments. Even with Angus's support, she felt uneasy.
"Thanks for the offer, Mr. White, but I'll have to pass," Audrey said after a moment. "I think I prefer just being a regular teacher. Thanks a lot, though."
"Alright, no worries. There will be more opportunities in the future. I won't keep you then." Angus felt a twinge of disappointment as he hung up and stood on the balcony, staring out. Ever since he met Audrey, he couldn't get the beautiful, gentle teacher out of his mind. Even though she was married, he couldn't help but want to see her, which was why he was so eager to help her transfer jobs.
But Audrey never seemed to appreciate it, unlike Vanessa, who often came over and hung out with Naomi. He knew Vanessa was using his connections to get to the city, but she was capable and got along well with Naomi, so it wasn't a big deal to help her out.
With Audrey refusing to come, there wasn't much Angus could do. He remembered seeing Audrey and Kevin coming out of the Hilton Hotel in the city during the summer and felt puzzled. He didn't understand why Audrey would go to a hotel with Kevin. Angus didn't think too much about it, as Audrey was Kevin's cousin. It was impossible for them to do something as outrageous as incest.
"Dad, who were you talking to?" Naomi's voice came from behind.
"Nothing important," Angus turned to look at Naomi and smiled. "I have good news for you. Vanessa will be transferring to the city's Department of Education soon, so you two can see each other more often. Happy now?"
"Really? That's awesome!" Naomi looked surprised and delighted. During the summer, Vanessa often came over, and Naomi liked her a lot. She hugged Angus and kissed him, saying, "Can Vanessa stay with us when she comes?"
"Absolutely not," Angus quickly shook his head. He had already done Vanessa a big favor by helping her transfer jobs. Letting her stay at their house would be too much, even if there were no issues, it would create problems.
Besides, Vanessa was a complicated woman. After a few interactions, he realized she was ambitious and cunning. Compared to her, Audrey was like a simple, innocent girl. If it were someone else, they might be infatuated with Vanessa, but someone as smart as Angus could see through her immediately. He had encountered many women like Vanessa who were ambitious, but women like Audrey were rare and hard to come by, which was why he couldn't forget her.
"By the way, Dad, why hasn't Kevin been coming over lately?" Naomi pouted. She was wearing a pink nightgown, revealing her long legs. Her ample chest was slightly protruding, larger than Laura's but smaller than Lucy's, giving her a youthful allure.
"Do you want to see Kevin? I'll invite him over sometime, okay?" Angus smiled, sighing inwardly. Since his wife passed away, Naomi had been very withdrawn and reluctant to interact with others. She was very enthusiastic about Kevin, and he hoped that frequent interactions with Kevin would help change her personality. This was also why, despite not liking Vanessa much, he still allowed her to come over. Naomi was his biggest weakness.
