Chapter 1264
"Who was on the phone?" Byron asked, frowning as Grace walked back into the bedroom. "You were gone forever."
"It was Alissa," Grace said, stretching out and flopping onto the bed. Her voice was muffled as she continued, "She was warning me about some pyramid scheme that's been going around. Told me to be careful."
"Yeah, you gotta watch out for that stuff," Byron agreed, looking annoyed. "Those scammers are the worst, and the government doesn't seem to do a damn thing about it."
"Well, they probably have their hooks in someone," Grace muttered, stretching like a cat. Her thin nightgown slid up, revealing her curvy figure. Her black lace panties hugged her body, and her long legs were smooth and inviting. She didn't look like she was forty at all.
Byron watched Grace, feeling a mix of emotions. Everyone envied him for being with Grace, but he didn't feel happy. Instead, he felt trapped. He knew Grace didn't really care about him; she married him out of obligation. When they first met, he felt inadequate next to her tall, stunning figure. Her fair skin and curvy body stirred something primal in him.
Byron never thought he'd end up marrying Grace. On their wedding night, when she undressed, he couldn't believe his luck. They made love passionately, and he feared it was all a dream, that she'd leave him.
But she didn't. She even gave him a son, continuing the family line. Byron was grateful and focused on making money, handing it all over to Grace. If nothing went wrong, their happy family would continue.
However, everything changed when Byron found another man's semen on Grace's stockings. He knew about her past with her ex, Chase. If she was cheating, it was probably with him.
The thought of Chase with Grace drove Byron crazy. But what could he do? He didn't have the guts to confront her. He was scared their family would fall apart.
After calming down, Byron didn't hate Chase as much. If Chase hadn't left Grace, she wouldn't have married Byron. In a way, Chase made it possible for Byron to be with her. Now that they were reconnecting, Byron felt he had no right to interfere.
The biggest issue was that Byron couldn't satisfy Grace's sexual needs. She had a strong desire, especially at forty. Byron's performance had declined. He used to last over ten minutes, but now he couldn't hold on for even a minute. Every time he saw Grace's disappointed eyes, he felt ashamed. He couldn't give her a luxurious life, and now he couldn't even satisfy her in bed.
Byron found some comfort in thinking that if Grace was cheating with Chase, it was better than with some random guy. As long as she didn't want a divorce, he could endure the humiliation to keep their family together.
"By the way, Byron, I'm taking Andy to the city tomorrow," Grace said, propping herself up on her elbows and swaying her hips. "He's been doing so well in school. I want to treat him. Think you can manage without us?"
"Sure, you two go have fun. I'll hold down the fort," Byron replied with a small smile, feeling a bit better. Even if Grace didn't care about him, she still cared about Andy, and that meant their family wouldn't fall apart.
"Andy's doing so well, thanks to Kevin," Grace said, turning to Byron with a smile. "Taking him as our godson was a good idea, wasn't it?"
"Yeah, Kevin's a good kid," Byron nodded. "His mom, Bethany, is busy with her business. We should look out for him more."
"I don't need you to tell me that; I know what I'm doing," Grace said with a smirk, thinking to herself that she was definitely a competent Godmother, even caring for Kevin in bed. Thinking about Kevin's large penis made her lower abdomen heat up, and her nipples tingle. She pondered that when Kevin came back, she would have him come over and do it with her first; otherwise, if Alissa joined, she wouldn't get enough.
Byron watched Grace's enchanting face, torn between desire and caution. Living with such a stunning woman filled him with constant anxiety – fear of judgment, betrayal, and his own shortcomings. The reality was less glamorous than it seemed. "I'll go check on Andy's homework," Grace murmured, rising from the bed in a black lace nightgown that accentuated her curves. Her allure was undeniable, but only Byron knew the danger her thighs posed.
After Grace left the bedroom, Byron was about to go to sleep when Grace's phone beeped. He didn't pay much attention, but a few minutes later, it beeped again. Curious about who would be texting Grace so late at night, he picked up her phone and looked. Instantly, a surge of anger shot from his feet to his head.
Message: [Grace, I've been thinking about our past these days. I was so foolish back then, missing out on such a good woman like you. I've always felt guilty over the years. If we hadn't broken up, you wouldn't have given up on yourself and married that loser, Byron. It's my fault.]
[Grace, I've thought it over. I won't give up. Even if there's only a slim chance, I'll fight for it. As long as you're willing to divorce Byron, I'll give you anything you want. A new car, a bigger house, designer clothes...you name it. You're too young and beautiful to waste your life with that deadbeat. He doesn't deserve you.]
The message was from Chase!
Waves of shock and fury coursed through Byron as his hand trembled involuntarily around his phone. What had been mere suspicion now solidified into certainty - Chase was undoubtedly the man with whom Grace had been intimate.
But he had already tolerated Chase and Grace's affair. Now Chase was not satisfied and was even urging Grace to divorce Byron, which crossed his bottom line.
However, Byron quickly felt disheartened. He knew that everything Chase said was true. He was indeed a loser, making a meager living selling vegetables, not even earning as much as Grace. Indeed, Grace had endured much with their marriage.
And if she really wanted to leave with Chase, there was nothing he could do to stop her. The fact that Chase had sent those messages meant that Grace still cared, that she still had some feelings for him and Andy. But how long could those feelings withstand this kind of pressure?
Byron glanced at the door; Grace hadn't returned yet. He hesitated for a moment and then replied to Chase's message.
[Chase, give it up. Byron treats me very well, and I won't divorce him. Besides, I have Andy. I can't leave him. I'm already forty. You have such good conditions; find a young and beautiful woman. Don't disturb my life anymore.]
Byron was inherently kind. Even though Chase was aggressive, he just wanted to keep the peace, hoping to dissuade Chase. Even if Chase continued his ambiguous relationship with Grace, Byron could accept it. His only demand now was to keep his family intact, no matter how humiliated he felt.
Soon, another message came in. Byron quickly opened it.
Chase's message: [Grace, don't be naive. Byron treats you well because he can't find a woman as good as you. If he really cared about you, he wouldn't continue to drag you down. If Byron truly loved you, he should let you go to find real happiness. If you can't bear to leave Andy, that's fine. You can take Andy with you when you divorce. I'll be his dad. But let's be clear, he can't keep the Myers surname; he'll have to change it to Wright!]
In an instant, a towering rage ignited in Byron's heart. His eyes turned bloodshot, his fists clenched, and his teeth ground together. He never expected Chase to be so outrageous, not only wanting to take Grace but also trying to take his son Andy away from him. He could tolerate Grace and Chase's affair; he could even accept Grace leaving him. But Andy was the most precious member of their family. Even the County Executive couldn't take him away.
Byron's face turned twisted, a hint of murderous intent flashing in his eyes. He was a gentleman, a man who avoided confrontation and always wore a smile. But he would not let anyone destroy his family. Not now, not ever.
