Chapter 1175 The Immediate Priority

Audrey walked out of the office building, gazing at the blue sky and white clouds above, realizing she had now become a homeroom teacher. Suddenly feeling the weight of this new responsibility, she understood that she would now be in charge of managing all aspects of a class, not just an English teacher. The workload had significantly increased, especially with a new class to familiarize herself with. She would need to maintain discipline, ensure academic stability, communicate with the class committee, substitute teachers, and parents. The immediate priority was to have a thorough discussion with the former homeroom teacher Alissa, as she was most acquainted with Class 57’s situation. She picked up the phone and dialed Alissa’s number.

Alissa, already aware of Audrey's new role as a homeroom teacher, briefly introduced the situation of Class 57 to her and offered some sound advice, giving Audrey a sense of assurance.

"Audrey, being a homeroom teacher is different from being a subject teacher. You must be decisive and resolute, considering the overall interests of the class. Don't hesitate too much; otherwise, you won't accomplish anything. Reflect on this," Alissa spoke with emphasis.

"I understand, Mrs. Garcia, thank you," Audrey responded, her face showing a determined expression. With her new position, she couldn't afford to be as soft as before; she couldn't let even the students look down on her anymore.

"Audrey," someone suddenly called out. She turned around to see Vanessa approaching with a smile. "Congratulations, Mrs. Johnson, on becoming the homeroom teacher of Class 57. How about treating us to dinner tonight?"

"Vanessa, are you teasing me again?" Audrey said helplessly. "There's nothing to congratulate. I'm actually worried. It would be embarrassing if I didn't handle this homeroom duty well. If you think it's good, I can recommend you to take over."

"I'll pass," Vanessa chuckled lightly, linking her arm with Audrey's affectionately. "It's just a homeroom teacher position. You think too much. While I don't know much about other classes, Class 57 has a good foundation and is likely to excel academically. Mrs. Johnson appointing you as the homeroom teacher is definitely a way to nurture you. Even if you don't invite us, you should express your gratitude to Mrs. Johnson."

"Is it necessary?" Audrey shook her head. "The school has assigned me as the homeroom teacher, so I'll do it. If not, I'll continue as the English teacher."

"You," Vanessa shook her head in resignation. "Your temperament might only work in a school setting. If you were in an office environment, you'd be crushed by others."

"That's why I prefer being a teacher. It's simple and doesn't require much effort," Audrey smiled faintly. "You, on the other hand, are underutilized at the school."

"Don't give me that," Vanessa huffed. "Audrey, mark my words, I won't stay at Sunset Valley High School for long."

"Really?" Audrey was taken aback. "Are you resigning?"

"Classified information," Vanessa grinned mysteriously. "You'll find out in due time. It will be quite surprising. But for now, you mustn't go around telling others."

"Don't worry," Audrey sighed inwardly. She realized that despite her past clashes with Vanessa, she felt a tinge of reluctance at the thought of her leaving. Was it her own kindness that made her feel this way?

"Audrey, are you going to miss me?" Vanessa said playfully. "Don't worry, even if I leave, we're still friends. As long as you consider me a friend."

"Vanessa, I've never regarded you as an enemy," Audrey sighed softly. "I hope you don't mind my past mistakes. Whether you stay or go, we are still friends."

"Alright, I'm not dead yet, don't get sentimental," Vanessa chuckled. "Audrey, I also have things to apologize for, especially regarding Quentin's situation..."

"Let's not bring up that person again," Audrey furrowed her brow. "You're a victim too."

"Quentin is in for a rough time," Vanessa whispered. "His uncle Owen is under investigation by the discipline inspection commission. He might be dismissed from the education bureau. Without a strong backing, Oliver won't go easy on him."

"Is that so?" Audrey felt a slight shock. She hadn't expected the essay competition incident to escalate to this extent, leading to Quentin's uncle's downfall. She couldn't discern if this was just a coincidence or if there was more at play. Perhaps Vanessa, having been with Quentin for so long, knew more about Owen's affairs.

If Quentin were indeed removed from the teaching profession, it would be a significant gain for Sunset Valley High School, and Audrey's discomfort around him would ease. His sinister gaze always made her uneasy, as if she were being targeted by a venomous snake.

"It would be best if that bastard gets his due," Vanessa expressed resentment. If Quentin hadn't schemed to deceive her in the past, she wouldn't have ended up in her current situation. That man had completely altered her destiny.

Audrey fell silent, contemplating Vanessa's words. Despite the resolution of her own long-standing issues, she couldn't find joy in the situation. Regardless of the circumstances, women were often vulnerable and easily harmed. Even when violated by men, they could end up labeled as seductresses. Vanessa's indulgence was perhaps a forced retaliation. If it were Audrey in that position, how would she respond? History couldn't be altered, and luckily, she had Kevin by her side.

After Vanessa departed, Audrey entered the teaching building and soon arrived at the door of Class 57. She felt a nervous excitement as it was her first time as a homeroom teacher. Adjusting her appearance and tidying her slightly disheveled hair, she took a deep breath, composed herself, and stepped into the classroom.

The once noisy classroom fell into silence as all eyes focused on Audrey entering.

Ascending to the platform, she pretended to be calm, scanning the room and recognizing familiar faces—Kevin, Albert, Laura, Lucy, and the monitor Ivan, alongside many unfamiliar faces. The scene reminded her of her initial days at Sunset Valley High School when she first started teaching the students.

"Hello, everyone, my name is Audrey," she introduced herself with a smile. "As Mr. David may have informed you, starting today, I will be serving as the homeroom teacher and English teacher for Class 57. I hope for your support in my new role."

Audrey continued to introduce herself with a smile, observing the students' reactions. Given Class 57's unique characteristics and several students with influential backgrounds like Laura, Albert, and Ivan, she knew handling their issues could prove challenging.
