Chapter 467 The Little Leader
Kevin was dealing with Eunice's rapid-fire questions while eavesdropping on Audrey and Dolores' conversation. He had always been curious about Audrey's past, as she rarely talked about her childhood, leaving him intrigued about her previous life experiences.
"By the way, Audrey, are you married now?" Dolores suddenly asked. "You're so beautiful, you must have found a good husband."
Blushing, Audrey replied somewhat awkwardly, "Yes, I am, just three years now."
"Oh, where does your husband work?" Dolores asked with a smile, thinking Audrey, with her looks, must have landed a wealthy man, at the very least a manager.
"He works down south," Audrey said somewhat helplessly.
"No way," Dolores exclaimed. "You're so beautiful, how can he be okay with leaving you alone at home? And how could you let him go so far away? It must be tough living alone at such a young age."
Audrey sighed softly and said, "I didn't want him to go either, but he insisted. We've argued about it many times. He feels he can't make enough money working in the county and believes he can only make a fortune and become a big shot by going down south."
"Audrey, let me tell you, a man with skills can make money anywhere," Dolores said. "Take our hotel owner, for example. He used to be a regular farmer, but he had the guts to take risks and work hard. In just a few years, he made a name for himself in Starfall Town, owning several hotels and worth millions. He didn't have to go down south to become a big shot."
Audrey, already dissatisfied with her husband Jason going south, felt even more troubled by Dolores' words. "Alright, enough about me. How about you? How are you doing now?"
"I'm divorced, gave the child to his father," Dolores said bluntly, seemingly unashamed of her divorce.
"Divorced? Why?" Audrey was surprised. Dolores was already in her forties and yet she had gotten a divorce.
"We just weren't compatible, always arguing every day," Dolores said with a smile. "So we decided to divorce, it's better for everyone."
"But you've been together for so many years, and you have a child," Audrey said. "It's a pity to split up."
"It's no big deal. Times have changed," Dolores said nonchalantly. "There are so many divorces nowadays. Life is about making yourself happy, why endure a lifetime of misery? I live alone now, earn money to spend on myself, do whatever I want when I get home. It's liberating. I regret not divorcing sooner. If I had divorced ten years ago, I wouldn't have held onto so much resentment. Audrey, marriage shouldn't make you miserable. If a man doesn't cherish you, why stay in a cold home?."
Audrey fell silent, deeply moved by Dolores' words. Although she had occasionally thought about divorcing Jason, it had never been a serious consideration. Today, Dolores' words made her realize that divorce wasn't such a big deal. Dolores had a child and still got divorced, whereas Audrey and Jason had no children and nothing to hold onto.
Seeing Audrey lost in thought, Dolores continued, "Audrey, with your qualities, you can definitely find a better man. Don't tie yourself down to one tree. You've only been married for three years, no children. Normally, I wouldn't advise divorce so easily, but dragging it out only makes things worse. Women, we only have a few good years in our lifetime. When you're old and no one wants you, even if you get divorced, you'll regret not living for yourself. I'm like this now, learn from my lesson."
Although Dolores was in her forties, she took good care of herself and looked much younger, both in appearance and figure.
Audrey sighed and said, "I know you mean well, but divorce is a big deal, not that simple. And we still have feelings..."
"What feelings? I've seen through it now, men are just like that," Dolores said disdainfully. "When they like you, they treat you like a treasure. When they don't, you're just a weed on the roadside. If he truly cared for you, why would he leave you alone? You can't be naive anymore."
"I understand, I'll think about it," Audrey said with a bitter smile. She actually admired Dolores. If it were her, she wouldn't be able to divorce so decisively. Perhaps that was her biggest problem.
As it was getting late, Audrey had to take Kevin to the station to return to the city. They exchanged phone numbers before Dolores dropped them off at the hotel entrance, saying, "Audrey, if you come to the city again, be sure to give me a call. I don't have many friends in the city, it gets quite lonely."
"Sure, sis, I will," Audrey said with a smile, bidding farewell to Dolores and leaving the grand hotel with Kevin.
Audrey and Kevin arrived at the bus station to catch a bus. Kevin seemed reluctant to leave Audrey, holding her hand and saying, "Sis, I haven't had enough time with you. How about I stay tonight and keep you company?"
"No, tomorrow is Monday, you have classes. Mrs. Garcia won't let you off," Audrey scolded Kevin, then blushing slightly, she said softly, "I'll be leaving in a few days. When you go back, study hard and aim for good grades. I promise I'll keep my word to you, understand?"
"I got it, sis."
Thinking about the pleasure of Audrey giving him oral sex, Kevin couldn't help but get excited. As the bus approached, he reluctantly boarded, waving to Audrey as the bus departed towards the city.
Once Audrey was out of sight, Kevin sighed and walked to the back of the bus. It was crowded with people returning to the county on a Sunday afternoon, and there were no empty seats left. Kevin had to stand in the aisle at the back.
Suddenly, the bus braked sharply, causing Kevin to lose his balance and lunge forward, bumping into a tall girl in front of him. His lower body pressed tightly against her firm, perky buttocks, feeling a reaction as his crotch hardened.
