Chapter 820: A Genuine Girlfriend
Kevin hadn't initially intended to call Laura. He felt somewhat resistant to this sudden girlfriend, even though Laura was pretty, academically excellent, and the class beauty—dating her would certainly boost his social standing.
However, guys think differently from girls. While girls might choose a boyfriend because he's handsome and treats them well, guys, although they care about looks and body, ultimately want someone interesting if they’re considering a relationship.
Laura, however, wasn't the lively type. Her mother, Daisy, had always been strict, making Laura a model student who rarely did anything out of line. Her routine was school, music lessons, and homework.
Laura was like a greenhouse flower, while Kevin had been more free-range. His mother, Bethany, was strict but often busy, so she couldn't watch him constantly. Kevin had a lot of freedom to get into mischief until high school, when a serious talk with his mother made him focus on his studies. Before that, he had spent weekends playing video games, billiards, and even watching adult films.
In high school, most boys were chasing Laura, but Kevin, short on cash and uninterested in Laura's serious demeanor, never considered it. Later, he developed feelings for Audrey, making Laura seem even less appealing.
Kevin and Audrey's relationship was always ambiguous and challenging, even drifting apart at times. Meanwhile, Laura unexpectedly became his girlfriend. Kevin felt it was fate playing tricks on him but had no choice but to accept reality.
A few days ago, Kevin struggled with a math problem in his summer homework and reluctantly sought Laura's help via social media. Laura tried to explain online but eventually called him, patiently tutoring him for half an hour until he understood.
Kevin felt awkward hanging up immediately, so he chatted with Laura and discovered she knew a lot beyond school and violin. She had read many world classics and occasionally played video games. Kevin felt closer to this seemingly privileged girl.
Over the next few days, Kevin called Laura whenever he had a question, and they chatted, growing closer. They mostly talked about school, but Kevin also shared his past mischiefs with Albert, which Laura found fascinating. Laura also complained about her strict music practice and conflicts with her mother.
Kevin realized that this seemingly perfect girl had her own struggles. Daisy, with her high standards, was even stricter with her daughter. Every family has its issues.
That night, Kevin asked Laura a few questions before recounting an adventure he had with Albert last summer, where they got lost in the mountains.
"Kevin, sometimes I envy you boys. You can do whatever you want, and no one says anything," Laura sighed. "Once, I was late coming home from school, and my mom scolded me harshly, even forbidding me to eat. My dad tried to defend me and ended up sleeping on the couch."
"Your mom was just worried about you. Girls are different from boys," Kevin chuckled, surprised that the elegant Daisy was so strict at home. Everyone has a hidden side.
"Kevin, next time you go out, can you take me with you?" Laura asked suddenly. "I want to see that cave you mentioned. I'm tired of just doing homework and practicing violin."
"No way. Your mom would kill me," Kevin refused immediately, recalling the dangerous adventure where he and Albert got lost and had to be rescued by a shepherd. Taking Laura to such a place was too risky.
"She won't. My mom likes you a lot. She'd trust you with me," Laura laughed.
"Really? I didn't notice," Kevin feigned ignorance, though he did find Daisy's fondness for him curious, possibly due to an incident at a water park where he had saved Laura.
"Definitely. My mom is very picky and has never allowed any other boys to visit our house. You're the first, and she always praises you. I haven't been praised like that," Laura said, a bit jealous.
"Really? What does she say about me?" Kevin asked, pleased that Daisy, a distinguished woman, thought highly of him.
"She says you're brave, kind, hardworking, and mature. She tells me to learn from you," Laura complained. "Kevin, are you really that good? What did you do to make her like you so much?"
"If I weren't good, could I be your boyfriend?" Kevin joked, happy to receive such praise.
He remembered Daisy's elegant demeanor and voluptuous figure, which had left a lasting impression. Having such a charming future mother-in-law was both exciting and worrying. But since he and Laura were only in high school, who knew what the future held?
Kevin didn't dwell on it. His relationship with Laura was casual, limited to holding hands, kissing, and occasional touches. It was less satisfying than his interactions with Audrey, who at least helped him relieve himself.
Some girls at school were quite open, not virgins, and frequently hooked up with boys. Yasmine from Class 51 was one such girl, known for her promiscuity. Her parents were divorced, and she often engaged in casual sex with wealthy boys, becoming the school's notorious "public bus."
Kevin wasn't interested in such girls, though many boys were, attracted by Yasmine's reputed sexual prowess. Even Albert once considered losing his virginity to her but decided against it to focus on pursuing Laura.
"You're so annoying," Laura's sweet voice came through the phone, and Kevin could imagine her shy expression. He decided to tease her a bit.
"Laura, if you want to go out with me, you have to be my real girlfriend," he said seriously.
"What do you mean? Aren't I already your girlfriend?" Laura asked, a bit annoyed.
"Not really. A girlfriend should do what girlfriends do," Kevin said with a sly smile. "You see what couples do on TV, right?"
"Kevin, you're so bad," Laura's voice grew softer. "I let you kiss me last time. What more do you want?"
Girls Laura's age knew about sex, though not as experienced as someone like Yasmine. They often discussed such topics among themselves and read explicit romance novels. Laura, under Daisy's strict upbringing, felt kissing was her limit, allowing Kevin to touch her a bit but not knowing how to satisfy him.
This innocence was part of Laura's charm. Kevin had played many Japanese dating sim games, where he trained a naive girl into a seductive woman. Laura, never having dated before, was a blank slate for him to mold.
"Just kissing isn't enough," Kevin coaxed. "There are more steps after that."
"What steps?" Laura asked curiously.
"Make me feel good," Kevin said, laughing. "Make me comfortable."
"What do you mean?" Laura asked, confused. "Kevin, stop beating around the bush. What do you want me to do?"
Seeing her curiosity, Kevin hesitated to be explicit. "Let's switch to social media," he suggested, ending the call and sending her a GIF.
Laura, puzzled, opened the GIF to see a boy and girl kissing. She blushed, thinking Kevin was being playful. But as the GIF continued, the boy whispered to the girl, who shyly reached into his pants and started stroking him.
"Oh my...," Laura gasped, quickly closing her phone, her heart racing. She glanced nervously at her bedroom door, fearing her mother might walk in.
