Chapter 776 The Lucky Boy Rewarded
Audrey visited two more cosmetics stores, looking at several sunscreens, but none seemed as good as the one from earlier. Perhaps you really do get what you pay for. She decided it would be better to buy sunscreen in Starhaven, a big city where cosmetics should be cheaper than in the county town.
"Sis, what's up with Quentin today?" Kevin frowned, thinking about Quentin's behavior. Quentin had always lusted after Audrey. If Kevin hadn't shown up in time last time, that bastard would have almost raped his cousin.
Every time Kevin thought about Quentin groping Audrey's naked, white body, he felt a surge of anger, wanting to tear Quentin apart. In Kevin's mental blacklist, Quentin was at the top. If murder were legal, Kevin would have already dismembered him.
"I'm not sure either," Audrey's bright eyes showed a hint of confusion. Quentin suddenly having a girlfriend and trying to please her was too sudden. Just before the vacation, Quentin had been threatening to take away her Excellent Teacher award.
Then it hit her. Audrey remembered the call from Angus. Maybe Quentin had learned that Angus had intervened and mistakenly thought she had a special relationship with him, prompting Quentin to try to curry favor.
Realizing this, Audrey felt relieved. Quentin had always been a heavy burden, repeatedly pestering her. If Quentin now believed she had connections with Angus, he would likely never trouble her again.
Unexpectedly, Angus's call had inadvertently solved her long-standing problem. Audrey felt grateful to Angus, who also helped her get the city-level Excellent Teacher award. She needed to find a chance to repay this favor.
While Audrey was pondering how to return the favor, Kevin was also scheming. He noticed how much his cousin liked that sunscreen but gave it up because it was too expensive. He had an idea: secretly buy the sunscreen and give it to her. She would surely be thrilled.
He still had the $1,000 gift card Alissa had given him, which he kept in his pocket, considering it a huge sum. His mother, Bethany, was stingy with pocket money, giving him just a few dollars a month. Kevin had learned to be frugal and rarely spent money.
Although the sunscreen was expensive, Kevin thought he had never bought anything for his cousin. He decided to use the gift card to buy the sunscreen and give it to her tonight. She might be so happy that she'd reward him with some new moves in bed. Imagining his cousin's tall, sexy body, Kevin felt excited, his penis hardening again.
Soon, they went up to the second floor and arrived at Bethany's clothing store. Seeing Audrey, Bethany said, "Oh, you're finally back. What took you so long? I’ve been waiting forever. You just had to pack some clothes, and Kevin was there to help."
Audrey blushed, thinking it was Kevin's fault for fooling around, making her late. She could only offer a casual explanation.
Bethany didn't mind, laughing, "Alright, you'll be staying at my place for a few days. Help Kevin with his studies. I can't keep an eye on him now that I have this store. Besides, I can't help with his homework anymore."
"Sure, Auntie, leave it to me," Audrey said, looking at Kevin with a smug smile. "Kevin, if you don't behave, I'll tell Auntie."
"Don't worry, I'll be good," Kevin said excitedly. He could now openly spend time with his cousin, feeling thrilled at the thought of playing with her for a few days.
Suddenly, a young girl in a white shirt and blue pants walked into the store. She looked to be in her twenties, with a clean, pretty face, a ponytail, and a straight posture, giving off an energetic vibe. Her eyes were particularly bright.
"Hello, what would you like to buy?" Bethany quickly greeted her with a smile, "We have dresses, coats, and underwear, all new for this summer."
"Are you Bethany?" the girl asked cheerfully, then looked at Kevin, "And you must be Kevin?"
Bethany and Kevin were both surprised, wondering how she knew their names.
The girl smiled and took out an ID, showing it to Bethany. It was a police badge. Her name was Alan, and she was an officer in the criminal police team.
Bethany was shocked. Why was a police officer here? Had Kevin done something wrong? She felt weak in the knees, and Audrey and Kevin quickly supported her.
"Hello, what's going on? Did Kevin get into trouble?" Bethany asked, trying to steady her voice.
"Auntie, don't worry," Alan said with a bright smile, "I'm here with good news. Your son Kevin helped our criminal police team catch a wanted criminal. The county and the bureau have decided to reward him. But to protect him, we can't make a big deal out of it. The bureau sent me to inform you and get a bank account from you."
"Oh, okay." Bethany was confused. How could her son have helped catch a criminal? She quickly gave Alan her bank account number.
Alan operated her phone for a moment and then said, "Alright, Auntie, the reward will be transferred to your account soon. The county is giving $50,000, and the bureau is adding $20,000, totaling $70,000."
She turned to Kevin with a smile, "Kevin, our captain said he'll treat you to dinner once things settle down. You're his hero. Well, I have to go. Bye."
With that, she left the store, the whole visit lasting less than five minutes.
After Alan left, the store was silent. The three of them were stunned. Bethany was still trying to grasp what had happened. Her son was just a high school student. How had he gotten involved with the police and criminals? And what was this reward about? She sternly asked, "Kevin, what exactly did you do? Tell me everything."
"Mom, I didn't do anything. I just made a call to the police," Kevin said, bewildered. He had just made a prank call to the police the other day. He didn't expect the police to find him, and instead of arresting him, they said he had done a good deed. Could it be that the people in that car were really wanted criminals?
Audrey felt a storm of emotions. The criminal police captain, Mark, had told her that it was a phone call that had allowed them to arrive in time and save her. But he didn't know who made the call.
She never imagined it was Kevin who made that call. Without Kevin's call, she might have been violated by those thugs. Audrey felt deeply moved, as if fate had intertwined their lives even more.
After Kevin explained everything, Bethany sighed in relief but felt a lingering fear. She glared at Kevin and said, "Don't ever do something like that again, understand? If those people weren't criminals, it would have been a false alarm. Do you think the police can't find you? And even if they were criminals, what if they found out you reported them and came after you? You need to be more careful."
Audrey stepped in to console her, "Auntie, don't scold Kevin. He did the right thing. We should all stand up against wrongdoers to make our society safer. But Kevin, you need to be more cautious in the future, alright?"
"I understand, sis," Kevin said obediently, feeling overjoyed. He hadn't expected his cousin to defend him, realizing he was becoming more important to her.
Just then, Bethany's phone chimed twice. She checked it and saw two new deposits, exactly as Alan had said.
"So much money," Bethany was stunned by the string of numbers on her phone. She had never seen so much money in her life. Working as a sales clerk, she had earned only a few thousand dollars a month. Even with her clothing store, business was slow, and she had made less than $10,000 in a few months.
But now, her son Kevin had unexpectedly brought in a huge sum. Bethany felt she had been too harsh on him. Despite being obedient and never asking for much, she realized she should reward him.
"Kevin, this money is your reward, but you're still young. I'll keep it for you until you go to college," Bethany said thoughtfully. "But you can make one reasonable request, and I'll fulfill it."
Kevin couldn't believe his luck. He had come into unexpected wealth, and his mother was willing to grant him a wish. What should he ask for?
A trip? Kevin wanted to visit the seaside, but Albert and his mother, Evelyn, were planning a trip. It would be awkward if they met, so he dismissed the idea.
A pair of Nike sneakers? Albert had a new pair that cost over $2,000, which Kevin envied. Wearing them to gym class would impress his classmates. But spending over $2,000 on sneakers felt too extravagant, even if his mother agreed.
A computer? Kevin envied Albert for having his own computer to play games. If he had one, he wouldn't need to go to the arcade or Albert's house. But a computer cost at least $5,000 to $6,000, and his mother might not agree. Besides, he didn't really need it now.
Finally, Kevin decided on a phone. It would make it easier to contact Alissa or Grace for their secret meetings. And with Audrey going to Starhaven soon, a phone would let him stay in touch with her.
"Mom, I want a phone," Kevin said bravely. Even the cheapest phone cost hundreds of dollars, and he had never asked his mother for so much money before.
"A phone? Why do you need a phone?" Bethany frowned. "No, you're a student. You just need to go to school and come home. What do you need a phone for?"
Kevin felt frustrated. His mother had promised to grant him a wish, but now she was refusing. He sulked, "Fine, I knew you wouldn't let me have it."
