Chapter 1608
This time, though, Alfie just couldn't get it in. His erection wasn't firm enough, and the head of his penis just rubbed up and down against Zella's soft labia. Despite feeling the slickness of her vaginal opening, he couldn't push through, and eventually, his penis went completely smooth.
Zella sensed something was off. She reached down and touched him, and with a peculiar expression on her face, she couldn't help but say, "This isn't working. If you can't, don't force it. Let's just sleep."
Alfie looked embarrassed. Seeing Zella's disappointed expression, he tentatively suggested, "Babe, maybe you could use your mouth?"
"What did you just say?" Zella's face darkened, and she huffed, "What do you take me for? I'm your wife, not a hooker."
Their intimacy had always been pretty conventional. The most adventurous they'd get was Zella wearing some sexy lingerie. She wouldn't entertain the idea of breast sex, anal, or even blow jobs, which she found dirty.
Alfie adored Zella, and seeing her angry, he didn't dare say another word. But he felt a bit frustrated. Zella was beautiful and had a great figure, but her conservative mindset was a bit much. Even slightly unconventional moves were off-limits. When they were dating, they only held hands, and kissing was something she reluctantly agreed to after they were officially a couple.
As for sex, that only happened after they got married. They've been married for five years now, and while their sex life was harmonious, it was always the same one or two positions. Alfie sometimes found it monotonous, but any suggestion for something different was immediately shut down by Zella, with no room for negotiation.
Alfie tried to console himself. If his wife had been more open-minded about sex, he might not have been her first, and he might even have to worry about her cheating. He had a colleague whose wife loved going to bars and hanging out with shady men before they got married. Even after marriage, she continued her reckless behavior, cheating on him. At least with Zella, he didn't have to worry about infidelity.
The atmosphere in the bedroom was a bit awkward. Alfie saw Zella turn her back to him and couldn't help but reach out, placing his hand on her shoulder. "Honey, let's talk. We haven't chatted in a while."
"Talk about what? Aren't you busy with work lately? Just go to sleep," Zella said flatly.
"Hey, you mentioned a senior official at your education bureau got disciplined. What happened?" Alfie tried to make conversation.
"Why do you care about that? The official's name is Zane. He led a team to a competition in Skyview City and got caught by the police for hiring a prostitute. The education bureau investigated and found out he had also harassed several female teachers at Maple Grove High School."
Zella snorted, "I heard Director White was furious in the meeting and insisted on severe punishment. But Zane only got demoted. If you ask me, people like him should be fired and jailed for life to prevent them from harming others."
"Yeah, I bet Zane had someone backing him," Alfie mused. "But Angus is quite a capable leader. I met him once when he was the deputy secretary-general of the city government. He's articulate and skillful. He might even become a deputy mayor someday."
"Director White is definitely better than the previous directors," Zella agreed, turning to face Alfie. "He visited our school recently and had a discussion with the teachers. Even though he's not from an education background, he talks about education like an expert, even more knowledgeable than our principal."
Seeing the admiration on Zella's face, Alfie felt a twinge of jealousy. "Well, he probably has a secretary writing his speeches. It's no big deal. If I were the education bureau director, I'd sound even better."
"With your skills, you wouldn't even qualify to be an official," Zella scoffed. If it weren't for her father being a former bank president, Alfie wouldn't have landed his high-ranking bank job, no matter how capable he was.
"Not qualified, huh? I don't care," Alfie said, his hand sliding down Zella's smooth shoulder to her breast, squeezing it playfully. "As long as I'm qualified to be your husband."
"Oh, come on, not again. Keep it down. Don't wake Greg," Zella protested, glancing at their son sleeping in the small bed next to them. Feeling her husband's erection pressing against her butt, she reluctantly went along with it. But at that moment, sex felt more like a chore than a pleasure.
Audrey came home and was immediately hit by the smell of smoke and alcohol. Jason was passed out on the couch, and the dining table was a mess. She frowned, wondering why Jason had invited so many friends over. But since he rarely came home, she didn't say anything. She changed her clothes, cleaned up the table, and opened the windows to air out the room.
After a while, Jason woke up to the sound of Audrey cleaning. He quickly got up and said, "Hey, babe, let me do that."
"No, it's fine. You drank, so go rest," Audrey said calmly. "By the way, what do you want for dinner? Kevin's staying at his friend's place tonight. How about I make you some noodles?"
"Anything's fine," Jason said, secretly pleased that they'd have the house to themselves. It looked like they could enjoy a quiet evening together.
Audrey made two bowls of noodles. Watching Jason devour his, she pushed her bowl towards him. "Jason, you should drink less. It's bad for your stomach."
"Yeah, yeah, I know. I was just excited to see my friends after so long," Jason explained. He thought about how the dinner had been a bust. Only Stan agreed to lend him $20,000, while the others found excuses to refuse. It was disheartening. They probably thought he was a scammer.
"Jason, why did you come back this time?" Audrey suddenly asked. "I feel like you're hiding something from me."
Jason hesitated before saying, "Honey, I did come back for a reason. I found a business opportunity in Imperial City, but I need some money to get started. So I came back to see if I could borrow some from my friends."
"How much do you need?"
"$100,000."
"That much?" Audrey was taken aback. Her annual salary as a teacher didn't even come close to that. She suddenly thought of something, and her tone turned cold. "Jason, are you gambling again?"
"No, honey, I swear I'm not," Jason's face changed, and he quickly explained. "After I got scammed that one time, I swore I'd never touch gambling again. Honey, I know you don't believe me, but this is my chance to start over. If I can seize this opportunity, I can succeed. I can fulfill all the promises I made to you. Please believe me."
Audrey looked at the man in front of her. She used to believe everything Jason said without question, but now she wasn't sure if she could trust him. The memory of that USB drive was like a thorn in her heart, painful and impossible to forget.
"I believe you," Audrey said softly after a long pause. "But who would lend you that much money? It's hard to borrow money these days."
"Stan said he could lend me $20,000. I'll ask some other friends tomorrow," Jason said, feeling a bit hopeless. If his friends wouldn't lend him money, he doubted anyone else would. He didn't want to miss this opportunity, but he felt stuck.
That night, Jason made a few more calls to acquaintances, but the responses were all the same. As soon as he mentioned borrowing money, they changed the subject or complained about their own financial troubles. Jason hung up, feeling dejected.
He stood on the balcony, smoking one cigarette after another, his mood dark. Why was his luck so bad? He deeply regretted that time he got roped into gambling. If it weren't for that, he wouldn't need to borrow money now.
"Jason, stop smoking," Audrey said, coming over. Seeing her husband's troubled expression, she hesitated before saying, "I have about $30,000 in my account. If you need it urgently, I can ask my colleagues to lend us some more. We might be able to gather $50,000."
"Honey, thank you," Jason said, feeling a mix of gratitude and guilt. He had wanted to ask Audrey for money but didn't know how to bring it up after everything he'd done. He hadn't expected her to offer help.
He suddenly felt very remorseful. How could he have betrayed his wife? He grabbed Audrey's hand, choking up. "I'm sorry, honey. You've had to put up with so much because of me. I haven't been able to give you a good life, and I've made you worry. I'm so useless."
"Enough, we're a couple. Let's not talk about this," Audrey said, feeling a bit emotional. Despite everything, she still had feelings for Jason. She couldn't just watch him struggle. "As long as you're doing something legitimate, I'll support you," she said.
"You're the best," Jason said, pulling Audrey into a hug and kissing her face. Audrey stiffened, instinctively wanting to pull away, but eventually let him hold her. Jason's kisses moved to her lips, and she thought of Kevin, trying to dodge. But Jason kissed her again, and this time, she didn't avoid it. As he kissed her lips, she felt conflicted. She regretted letting Kevin stay away. Was she really going to have sex with Jason tonight?
