Chapter 667 Birthday Party
After school in the evening, Kevin and Albert went to the bar together. Albert asked, "Kevin, what did you buy for Laura's birthday gift?"
Kevin shrugged and said, "I didn't buy anything."
"That's not appropriate," Albert frowned and said, "Are you planning to show up empty-handed? You have some nerve."
"Well, today is your day, I didn't want to steal your thunder," Kevin said with a grin. Despite his words, he went to a nearby supermarket and bought the most premium birthday card. When opened, it would flash and play music. It cost Kevin a whopping fifty dollars. If it weren't for the supermarket gift card he received from Alissa, he wouldn't have been willing to spend so much on a card.
However, Albert looked disdainful. "Kevin, you're being too stingy. A card is not enough. Even if you want to save money, this is not the time to do so. Forget it, I'll buy it for you."
"No need," Kevin glanced at Albert and said calmly, "It's not right to spend your parents' money recklessly. I think the card is just fine."
Albert was left speechless by Kevin's retort, but he knew Kevin had a point. Otherwise, they wouldn't have been such good friends. Despite Albert coming from a wealthier background, he always shared everything with Kevin, who never showed any discomfort. Albert knew Kevin had principles and there were things he would never do.
"Alright, you're right," Albert nodded reluctantly. "I was just trying to help, didn't want your card to be embarrassing."
As they realized time was running out, they quickly arrived at the bar. The night had fallen, the lights were on, and the bar entrance was vibrant with colorful lights. The scene was bustling with activity, and hostesses in red short skirts lined up on both sides. As soon as someone entered, they would bow, their fair thighs and enticing cleavage making hearts race.
"Quite exciting. The bar owner really knows how to do business," Albert said, looking at the hostesses' full thighs and perky buttocks, swallowing hard. "I heard the bar makes tens of thousands in a night, with annual income in the millions. The bar owner is definitely a millionaire."
Kevin also marveled at the crowded scene in the bar. Besides the food industry, entertainment was the most profitable business nowadays. At its peak, there were fifty to sixty karaoke bars, with two whole streets lined with them. By six or seven in the evening, the streets were filled with hostesses trying to attract customers. However, after a government crackdown and people growing tired of the scene, most karaoke bars closed down. Only a few with strong backing managed to survive, albeit without openly providing adult services.
Kevin knew that despite Natalie being the nominal bar owner, Jasper was the one actually in charge. While the bar made money, not all of it went into Natalie's pocket. Nevertheless, Natalie now had at least a few million in assets, firmly placing her among the wealthy.
They arrived at Room 206, where Laura, Lucy, and others were already present. The spacious room was filled with over a dozen people, mostly girls. As Laura was the class monitor and the majority of the Class 57 committee members were present, along with a few class representatives, it could be considered the gathering of the elite students of Class 57.
"Kevin, Albert, you two are so rude. We've been waiting for you for ages," Carl stood up and said loudly, "You two must perform a show, okay?"
"Sure, let them sing a love song together," Lucy suggested with a mischievous glint in her eyes, causing everyone to laugh and the atmosphere in the room to become lively.
"Carl, you're seeking revenge, aren't you?" Albert glared at Carl fiercely. He knew that he had to confess his feelings to Laura that night, and Carl's teasing was making it difficult for him.
Kevin glanced at Laura and saw her in a white princess bubble dress, with two ponytails, looking pure and beautiful. She was tall, graceful, with captivating features and bright eyes, definitely the center of attention. She outshone the other girls, truly deserving the title of the school's beauty queen, possibly surpassing her mother Daisy in a few years to become a stunning beauty that captivated all.
In the end, Albert and Kevin reluctantly sang a heartfelt song together to appease the crowd. Other students also took the stage to perform, with Lucy singing the theme song from Titanic, "My Heart Will Go On," eliciting cheers from the audience, and Carl performing a trick of opening a bottle without using any tools.
"Alright, alright, the performances are almost done. It's time for the main event. Bring out the cake," Lucy shouted, but then her face changed suddenly. "Oh no, I forgot to buy the cake. What do we do now? It's too late to buy one."
Albert quickly said, "I'll go buy one now. With so many cake shops, there must be one open."
