Upon hearing Oliver's words, the teachers in the audience immediately began to whisper excitedly. Currently, most teachers were living in poor conditions, often squeezing a family of five or six into a two-bedroom apartment. If the school could really build apartments, it would truly solve a big problem.
Audrey was also pleasantly surprised. The house she currently lived in was the one she and her husband had bought when they first returned. The house was old, the surrounding environment was poor, with frequent power outages and water cuts. Additionally, having a neighbor like Avery made it even worse. She had been wanting to move out for a while, but the commercial housing sold in the county was too expensive. She and Lucas simply couldn't afford it, so they had been making do. Previous principals had also called for the housing issue to be resolved, but they never expected Oliver to actually get it done.
Oliver concluded with some encouraging words before adjourning the meeting. The teachers gradually left the conference room. Audrey was about to leave when Vanessa walked over with a smile and said, "Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Jones asked us to go to his office. He has something to discuss with us. Let's go."
Audrey's heart skipped a beat. She was reluctant to meet Oliver, but with Vanessa by her side, she hesitated and followed Vanessa into Oliver's office.
"Mr. Jones, Mrs. Johnson, please have a seat," Oliver said with a smile. "You both have performed exceptionally well this time. Not only have you brought honor to our school, but you have also added luster to my position as principal. When I go to the education bureau for funding in the future, I will have more confidence. I must thank you both."
"Mr. Jones, it's what we should do," Vanessa replied, sitting on the sofa in a black silk camisole dress, her long legs crossed elegantly, her feet swaying alluringly. Oliver couldn't help but imagine how wild this woman must be in bed.
To be honest, if this had been ten years ago, Oliver would have definitely turned Vanessa into his lover, not just a one-time transaction. But now, his desire for beautiful women had waned. Otherwise, he wouldn't have trouble getting aroused with his gorgeous and sexy wife. His focus was more on emotional fulfillment, something Vanessa couldn't provide.
Audrey sat silently, wearing a white blouse and tight jeans, accentuating her curvy legs and ample bosom. Oliver felt a surge of desire, but he also felt a sense of obsession towards this young female teacher. He not only desired her physically but also wanted to conquer her heart. As a school principal, he could have any female teacher he wanted with a little effort, even Audrey. However, that wouldn't bring him any sense of accomplishment.
Audrey sensed Oliver's intense gaze and understood his desires. She felt conflicted about him. On one hand, she wanted to keep her distance, but on the other hand, she admired Oliver's competence as a principal. He was dedicated to his work, had charisma, and hadn't used underhanded tactics like Quentin. He provided her with resources, helped her advance in her career, and took care of her.
Audrey sometimes felt she shouldn't accept Oliver's kindness, as it might lead her deeper into a complicated situation. But at the same time, she was just an ordinary female teacher who wanted a better life. Oliver's intentions were clear and hard to refuse.
However, Audrey had her principles. She could accept Oliver's special treatment in terms of career advancement or training, but she would never engage in a transaction like Vanessa. She would rely on hard work to prove she deserved such special treatment.
Oliver looked at Audrey with a smile and said, "Mrs. Johnson, you have performed excellently this time. I have decided that next semester, we will adjust your and Mr. Jones' roles and have both of you serve as class teachers to gain experience. Do you have confidence in that?"
Vanessa perked up at the mention of being a class teacher. It might be tiring, but there would be a special allowance each month, and it would also earn them extra points during the title evaluation. She immediately said, "Mr. Jones, rest assured, I will do my best as a class teacher and strive to become an honorable educator."
Audrey couldn't refuse Oliver's kindness either. Being a class teacher was also her goal. She softly said, "Mr. Jones, I will do my best."
"Good," Oliver said with a beaming smile. "The school will rely on you young teachers in the future. My main task as principal is to take care of logistics, solve your worries, and address any issues you may have, whether work-related or personal. Mrs. Johnson, your husband is not at home now, and living alone can be tough. If you have any difficulties at home, feel free to come to me or other school leaders. Don't hesitate."
"I understand. Thank you for your concern, Mr. Jones. I'm doing fine now."
Audrey replied calmly, knowing that Oliver's words had an underlying meaning. She made it clear to avoid giving any false hopes. She needed to keep her distance from Oliver now; what happened in his office last time should never happen again.
Oliver felt somewhat helpless. Audrey seemed more distant after this training session, and he noticed a hint of resentment in her expression. Being a young woman separated from her husband for a long time could lead to frustration. Oliver had thought he had an opportunity, but now Audrey seemed radiant and full of life, as if she had been nourished by a man. He found it strange. Had Audrey's husband returned? If so, it would complicate things. It would be even harder to win Audrey's heart.
Nevertheless, Oliver wasn't discouraged. Winning a woman's heart required patience and strategy. He needed to wait for the right moment. Perhaps all he needed was a chance, and he could win Audrey's heart. Until then, he could only wait silently and avoid causing any aversion in Audrey.
Audrey and Vanessa returned to the English research room, where many teachers came up to greet them. Ethan also congratulated Audrey, saying, "Mrs. Johnson, congratulations! You've brought honor to our English department. Maybe you'll even become the head of the research room in the future."
"Don't joke, Ethan," Audrey blushed slightly and replied softly. "I'm not qualified to be the head of the research room. Even if there's a change, it should be Alissa who's qualified."
"Well, I believe in you," Ethan said courageously. "Mrs. Johnson, if you ever want to be the head, I'll definitely support you."
Audrey looked into Ethan's eager eyes, feeling a bit melancholic. She knew of his feelings for her, but her heart belonged to Kevin now. Even her husband came before anyone else. Besides, Ethan, though having a long-standing crush on her, lacked charisma compared to Oliver or Angus. Audrey didn't even consider Ethan as a potential partner.
As Audrey and Ethan chatted, her phone suddenly beeped a few times. She picked it up and saw a message from Angus. Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly left the office to read the message. It was a greeting from Angus.
"Mrs. Johnson, have you arrived? Is the journey smooth? I've reported to the city's education bureau, and I'll be starting my research soon. Maybe we'll meet again."
Audrey felt a pang of distress. She looked down at the classroom below, wondering what Kevin was up to. If it weren't for him, she wouldn't be entangled with Angus.
