Chapter 1090 Deception
"Goodbye, Mrs. Maurice," Kevin walked to the bedroom door and saw Maurice's solitary figure. Knowing that she was alone at home tonight, he hesitated for a moment before speaking, "Mrs. Maurice, how about I stay tonight to accompany you? I'll sleep on the sofa downstairs. If you need anything, just call me."
Maurice paused, taken aback by Kevin's sincere expression and clear gaze. Concerned for her safety, especially after hearing about thieves from security earlier, she hesitated and asked, "You won't have any issues with your family if you stay out tonight?"
"It's alright, my mom is out running errands in the city for a few days, so she's not at home anyway. Besides, tomorrow is the weekend, and I don't have school," Kevin said with a grin.
"Alright then," Maurice nodded. With her husband and daughter away, having someone to keep her company at night did offer a sense of security. "But don't sleep on the sofa tonight, it's uncomfortable. You can sleep here."
"Here? Mrs. Maurice, is that appropriate?" Kevin looked surprised, eyeing the double bed where Maurice was seated. He couldn't believe Maurice was suggesting he share a bed with her. Though a double bed was spacious, Kevin was used to sleeping beside his cousin. Accidentally touching the wrong place in his sleep would be disastrous.
Seeing Kevin's expression, Maurice realized his misunderstanding. Her cheeks flushed slightly as she explained, "I meant you could sleep on a mattress on the floor. The bedroom has wooden flooring, so it won't be too cold. I often sleep on the floor in the summer."
"Oh, I see." Kevin felt embarrassed for jumping to conclusions. How could Mrs. Maurice, the governor's wife, possibly suggest sharing a bed? Just sleeping on a mattress was already more than generous.
Maurice asked Kevin to fetch a mattress and a blanket from the wardrobe, spreading them on the empty side of the double bed. "There, Kevin. If you find the floor uncomfortable, we can switch positions."
"No need, Mrs. Maurice. I'll sleep on the floor," Kevin wouldn't have Maurice sleep on the floor. Once Maurice got into bed, Kevin turned off the lights and lay on the mattress, feeling excited about sharing a room with the governor's wife. Sensing the mature woman's scent emanating from the bed, his manhood stirred again, tenting the towel covering him.
Unable to fall asleep, Kevin listened to Maurice's breathing from the bed, knowing she had dozed off. Glancing toward the bed, Kevin saw Maurice lying under a thin silk quilt, her elegantly contoured bosom visible in the darkness, adding an extra touch of mystery. Despite his arousal, Kevin dared not gaze further, shutting his eyes tightly. However, Maurice's alluring breasts seemed to beckon him, their fullness and firmness tempting him with their proximity, the nipples resembling juicy grapes, tantalizing him endlessly.
"Oh, how am I going to sleep like this?" Kevin lamented inwardly, regretting his decision to stay. He might as well have gone home for some solitary relief.
Suddenly, Kevin heard a creaking noise from the bed and felt puzzled. Could Maurice be eating something secretly? He looked up and saw Maurice sleeping peacefully. Listening more carefully, he noticed the sound coming from the window, causing a chill to run down his spine. Could there really be a thief?
He quickly got up, stealthily approached the window, and heard the sound more distinctly. It seemed like someone was tampering with the glass from outside, displaying a boldness that surprised him. They dared to break into the governor's residence.
Seeing the glass starting to loosen, Kevin shouted loudly. A thud followed, indicating the intruder's hasty escape. Peering out the window, Kevin saw a shadow darting towards a nearby wall, quickly scaling it and disappearing. Astonished by the thief's agility, Kevin marveled at the swift escape. Within moments, everything unfolded in front of him, leaving Kevin in disbelief at the thief's audacity.
"Kevin, what's happening?" Maurice, now awake, sat up and inquired.
"Mrs. Maurice, a thief was trying to break in, but I scared them off," Kevin said cheerfully.
"A real thief?" Maurice, still shaken, realized the importance of the security call she had initially dismissed. Now, the incident left her feeling vulnerable. Fortunately, having Kevin around proved to be a crucial decision. Losing some belongings would be one thing, but if the thief had malicious intent...
Glancing at the time—it was past midnight—the timing of the break-in was indeed strategic. It was when she was deep in sleep, signaling a well-calculated intrusion. After a moment's thought, Maurice suggested to Kevin, "Why are you still awake? Is sleeping on the floor uncomfortable for you? How about you sleep on the bed instead? It's a bit chilly on the floor, you might catch a cold."
In truth, Maurice felt a bit fearful. With her husband away, the emptiness around her felt more pronounced, especially after the thief incident. She was hesitant to voice her anxiety directly.
"It's okay, Mrs. Maurice. I turn around a lot in my sleep at night, and I don't want to disturb your rest," Kevin replied, declining the offer to share the bed.
"It's fine, I'm a heavy sleeper. Your movements won't bother me," Maurice was initially concerned but felt reassured by Kevin's considerate nature. Smiling gently, she insisted, "Come on up to the bed. If you'd rather not, we can both sleep on the floor."
Seeing Maurice's resolute stance, Kevin reluctantly climbed onto the bed, his heart pounding at the prospect of sharing the bed with the governor's wife. He couldn't believe his luck. Meanwhile, Maurice dialed the police chief directly from her phone. If news spread that even the governor's residence was targeted, the public's sense of security would be shattered.
Outside the luxurious residential area, a short figure huddled in a corner, rubbing his sore legs and emitting a grunt. This was the Midnight Devil, Clay, feared by numerous women in the city.
Since the city police cracked down on crime, Clay had remained dormant, refraining from any illegal activities. However, after a period of relative calm, his restlessness resurfaced. Despite his numerous conquests, he had yet to target several prominent women in the city, particularly Daisy and Maurice—both esteemed figures. If he could succeed with them, it would elevate his status even beyond that of the governor.
