Chapter 1192
"Alright, let's meet at the neighborhood entrance at 8 AM. My mom's driving us to the mountain base, so we can save some energy. Hiking can be pretty exhausting." Laura was so caught up in her excitement about their hiking plans for tomorrow that she didn't notice Kevin seemed a bit off. She was clearly pumped for this trip—it was their first outing since they started dating.
"Okay, make sure you get to bed early tonight. Goodnight." Kevin hung up and headed back to the bedroom, where Audrey was busy typing away on her computer. He remembered he had promised to spend the whole day with Audrey and felt a wave of guilt. He turned and went to the bathroom to take a shower, trying to figure out how to handle this mess.
After his shower, he still didn't have a solution and walked out feeling frustrated. Audrey came out of the bedroom and, seeing Kevin's troubled face, asked, "Kevin, what's up? Something wrong with Laura?"
"No, it's just..." Kevin hesitated, "Audrey, when are you going to the beauty salon tomorrow?"
Audrey caught on quickly and smiled wryly, "Laura needs you for something tomorrow, right? It's fine, go with her. I'll go to the salon by myself. Just don't make promises so easily next time."
Seeing the faint disappointment in Audrey's eyes, Kevin felt a pang of guilt. He had let her down again. He quickly grabbed her hand and said, "Audrey, I'm sorry. I promised Laura, and I don't want to break my word."
"I know, you told me before." Audrey smiled slightly, "Do you think I'm petty? I won't be mad at you. Have fun tomorrow, just don't come back too late. It's Monday the day after, and we have classes. Now, go get some rest. I need to keep working."
Watching Audrey turn back to the bedroom, Kevin sighed. For the first time, he found it tough to juggle two commitments.
The next morning, Kevin got up early and made a hearty breakfast for Audrey. When she woke up and saw the table set with fried eggs, toast, and milk, she smiled and said, "Kevin, feeling guilty and trying to make it up to me?"
"Audrey, I just think you work too hard cooking and helping me with my homework. From now on, I'll handle all the chores on weekends. You can sleep in and relax." Kevin smiled.
"I still have to prepare lessons. Being a homeroom teacher means no weekends anymore." Audrey sighed lightly. She used to think the extra thousand dollars a month for being a homeroom teacher was great, but after a few days in the role, she realized it wasn't easy money. She had to consider every aspect of dozens of students, from academic performance to fights and conflicts with other teachers. She had to handle it all, and her throat was sore from talking so much.
After breakfast, Kevin quickly cleaned up the dishes and had Audrey sit on the couch while he knelt on the floor to massage her legs. "Audrey, does this feel good?" he asked with a grin.
Audrey smiled charmingly, "Alright, you don't have to try so hard to please me. Go on, don't keep Laura waiting."
"Audrey, I'm leaving now." Kevin stood up and left the house, hurrying to the entrance of the upscale neighborhood, arriving right at 8 AM.
After waiting for a while, he saw Daisy's car pull up. Laura waved at him and said, "Kevin, hurry up and get in. We're going to pick up Albert and Lucy."
Kevin got in the car and greeted Daisy, who smiled and said, "Kevin, be careful while hiking today, especially with Laura. She doesn't exercise much, so keep an eye on her and make sure she's safe."
"Don't worry. We're just going to have some fun and won't wander off." Kevin replied with a smile.
Daisy picked up Albert and Lucy and drove them to the foot of the mountain. After giving Kevin some more instructions, she drove off.
Laura and Lucy each carried a large backpack filled with snacks, fruits, umbrellas, raincoats, and wet wipes. Naturally, Kevin and Albert were responsible for carrying these. The two guys shouldered the bags and started hiking up the mountain, while Laura and Lucy walked hand in hand behind them, beginning their first group hiking adventure.
