The forty-five-minute class swiftly drew to a close, yet everyone felt unsatiated, even wishing for Audrey to continue speaking. In truth, Audrey's teaching level now rivaled Alissa's. She presented even the most abstruse knowledge points in a lively and engaging manner, referencing classic works to broaden the students' horizons. Her only shortfall lay in maintaining the classroom pace as skillfully as Alissa—understandable given Alissa's experience of over two decades, almost catching up with Audrey's age.
"Alright, everyone, please complete the assigned homework after class and hand it to the English class representative," Audrey said after organizing her teaching materials. Her initial nervousness had dissipated. The beginning is always the hardest; with each step taken, things will progressively become smoother. She glanced at Kevin and suddenly addressed Ivan in the front row, "Monitor, come with me."
Ivan was taken aback by Audrey’s unexpected summons. He had always been neglected by Alissa as the class monitor. Could it be that Audrey intended to utilize him now? His heart leaped with joy as he quickly followed Audrey to a tree outside the teaching building. Watching Audrey's slightly trembling, ample bosom, he swallowed hard and grinned, "Mrs. Johnson, is there something you need? Don't worry, I'm the monitor of Class 57. Just let me know if you need anything, and I'll make sure to handle it. Trust me, there's nothing I, Ivan, can't accomplish in Class 57."
"Ivan, you've been the monitor for a year now," remarked Audrey with a cold expression, her tone icy. "The class committee will be re-elected this semester, and I hope you'll voluntarily step down and refrain from running for monitor."
“Why?" Ivan was dumbfounded. Audrey, seemingly gentle, was more ruthless than Alissa. Directly depriving him of his monitor position was a bold move.
"I've talked to Mrs. Garcia. She believes your performance as monitor is inadequate. We were planning to reorganize the class committee this semester, and since I'm now the homeroom teacher of Class 57, I'll be leading this change," Audrey stated matter-of-factly.
"Mrs. Johnson, I've dedicated myself to being the monitor for a year, with both merits and hard work. I won't accept this!" Ivan couldn’t bear to lose the prestigious position, especially not to this woman.
"If you disagree, we can conduct a public opinion poll. Let all the students vote anonymously. If more than half support you, you can remain. How about that?" Audrey suggested calmly.
Ivan was stunned. He had become the monitor solely due to his father's influence. His mischievous antics with a group of delinquents had alienated most ordinary students, and having an arch-nemesis like Kevin didn't help. There was no way he would pass the vote.
"Mrs. Johnson, is this necessary? My father is the director of the finance bureau, Devon. You're well aware, aren't you? Otherwise, I can have my father speak with you." Ivan brought out his father, hoping to leverage his influence.
"Well then, that’s convenient. I was actually planning to have a discussion with your father about the essay competition incident," remarked Audrey with a faint smile. "I believe your father will be pleased to know about your actions."
Though Audrey's smile was beguiling, Ivan sensed a hint of menace. He shuddered, realizing he had misjudged Audrey. This woman was not as fragile as she appeared; she was like a rose with thorns. It hadn't even been a full day since she'd taken on the role of homeroom teacher, and she was already moving against him, the monitor.
Realizing he had no power to oppose Audrey, Ivan reluctantly nodded, crestfallen. "Mrs. Johnson, I'll comply. I won't run for monitor."
"Well, that's settled. Ivan, I hope you focus on your studies. The past actions can be overlooked," Audrey said softly. "I hope you reconsider your ways. You may go now."
Watching Ivan retreat into the classroom despondently, Audrey revealed a look of disgust. Since the plagiarism controversy, her impression of this student had grown extremely negative. While mischievous behavior in boys could be understood, resorting to plagiarism against classmates in a competition was beyond mere mischief—it spoke of character flaws. Additionally, Alissa had mentioned numerous issues concerning Ivan, further solidifying Audrey's disapproval of him.
Initially hesitant to act so swiftly after assuming the role of homeroom teacher, she knew the influence of a monitor on a class was substantial. Delaying even a day meant the students would be affected. Thus, she decisively addressed the issue with Ivan. As for possibly provoking Devon, head of the finance bureau, she was indifferent. Oliver needed to consider such matters, having willingly placed himself in the position.
During the afternoon self-study session, Audrey reconvened the class committee, conducting a reelection and restructuring. Alissa had made extensive preparations beforehand, and with Kevin's strong backing, Albert, Laura, Lucy, and Carl had garnered significant support for him. Ultimately, Kevin assumed the monitor position with resounding approval from his peers.
Meanwhile, Oliver convened a party meeting to discuss Quentin's case. With Owen facing consequences, the other vice principals were unequivocal in supporting strict measures against Quentin to uphold the school's discipline. It was decided to expel Quentin and report the disciplinary outcome to the education bureau.
