Chapter 394: Pretty Girl Naomi
On Saturday morning, Kevin hopped on the 27 bus to downtown bright and early. After getting off at the last stop, he switched to the 11 bus and arrived at the entrance of Starfall Town Teachers College.
Stepping off the bus, Kevin gazed at the wide streets and tall buildings in the distance, curious and taking in the bustling city scene. It was definitely livelier than the county town, even as he neared the outskirts.
Seeing the sign for the Teachers College, Kevin felt excited. He was looking forward to seeing his cousin Audrey's alluring figure again. But first, he needed to visit Angus, his father's former colleague and the Deputy Secretary of the Starfall Town City Government.
Angus lived in the staff quarters next to the Teachers College. The neighborhood, built over a decade ago, consisted of five-story brick buildings with outdated facilities and no elevators.
Carrying the gift his mother had prepared for him, Kevin climbed the stairs, muttering to himself. He couldn't believe that Angus, now a Deputy Secretary, still lived in such a place. Maybe the living conditions weren't that great.
Reaching the third floor, Kevin knocked on the door. A woman in a yellow floral dress, in her thirties with her hair tied back, opened the door. She had a plump figure and an ordinary appearance.
Kevin speculated that this woman couldn't be Angus's wife and quickly addressed her respectfully as "Auntie."
The woman smiled and said, "You must be Kevin. I'm the housekeeper for the Secretary's family. Come on in."
Kevin was taken aback by the mix-up as soon as he entered. His face reddened slightly. The woman let him in, asked him to change into slippers, and told him to just call her sister.
Entering the living room, Kevin noticed the outdated decor, not as luxurious as Albert's home. He wondered how Angus, a Deputy Director, lived so modestly. It was even less impressive than a small county chief's residence.
Soon, Angus emerged from his study. He was tall, towering over Kevin, with a square face, thick eyebrows, and large eyes. Seeing Kevin, he smiled and said, "You must be Kevin. You've grown so tall, just like your dad. It's a shame he can't see you now."
Kevin stood up awkwardly and replied, "Hello, Angus."
"Have a seat," Angus gestured for Kevin to sit on the sofa, and they chatted casually, mainly inquiring about Kevin and his mother's well-being.
Upon hearing that Bethany was running a clothing store, Angus sighed, "Your dad and I used to be colleagues in the office. It was supposed to be me going on that business trip, but your dad volunteered to go in my place so I could return home early. Little did we know, tragedy struck. He saved me from a disaster."
Kevin was stunned. When his father passed away, he was still young, and his mother rarely discussed these matters with him. Many details were unclear to him. But now he understood why Angus cared so much about him.
"To be honest, I haven't been attentive to you and your mother these years, causing you a lot of hardship," Angus sighed. "Your mom is very strong-willed. I tried several times to bring you both to live in the city, but she always refused. Now that you're older and your mom is busy, unable to take care of you, I suggest you come to the city to study. I've already spoken to Starfall Town High School, and you can stay with us. My daughter Naomi also attends the high school, she's in the freshman year. You two can go to school together. What do you think?"
Kevin was surprised by Angus's arrangements. He hesitated because Audrey was his only concern. Their relationship was blossoming, and Audrey had already surrendered most of herself to him, with only the final barrier left. If he left the city school now and couldn't be with Audrey day in and day out, their feelings might fade, and their intimate life would be disrupted, something Kevin couldn't accept.
Thinking Kevin was reluctant to leave his mother, given their years of reliance on each other, Angus assumed Bethany had agreed. He believed Kevin would eventually agree. After all, among all the high schools in Starfall Town, Starfall Town High School had the best teaching quality. Many parents were eager to enroll their children there. Could Kevin resist this temptation?
Just then, the doorbell rang, and a girl walked in wearing a tennis cap and a white tennis skirt. Her face was round, with features resembling Angus, thick eyebrows and large eyes. Though not as stunning as Laura, the girl's figure was more mature. She was shorter than Laura but had ample curves, filling out the skirt in a captivating way. Of course, compared to Audrey's exquisite 36F assets, she paled in comparison.
"Naomi, back from tennis practice already?" Angus greeted the girl with a smile. "Why so early today?"
"Don't mention it. The tennis coach who was supposed to train me didn't show up. They sent a newbie who knew nothing, so I just came back," Naomi grumbled, kicking off her sneakers and putting on slippers. Her fair legs were dazzling.
"Come, let me introduce you," Angus pointed at Kevin with a smile. "This is the child of an old colleague of mine, Kevin. He's about your age and starting his freshman year."
"Hello, Naomi, I'm Kevin."
Kevin quickly stood up, unsure whether to shake hands with her.
