Chapter 120 She Is Innocent
"Cough, cough, cough!"
Anna had successfully choked, her throat burning, and her face flushed.
"Anna, drink some water."
"Mommy, let me pat your back."
The two kids quickly approached, handing her water and patting her back, showing great care.
Anna felt embarrassed. Just now, Giorgio actually said such words in front of the children!
She drank water and patted her chest.
"Penny and Charlie, I'm fine now. You can continue enjoying the hot pot, just be careful not to choke."
"Yeah, Mummy, take your time."
After the two little ones returned to their seats, Anna awkwardly picked up her chopsticks and continued to grab some food. She didn't want to answer, nor did she know how to respond.
Is she planning to ignore it?
The corners of Giorgio's lips slightly curved upwards. "Little turtle."
Turtle?
Anna frowned disapprovingly. "Who are you calling a turtle?" Who does that when they insult someone?
Giorgio put some beef stomach into his bowl, turned his gaze, and stared meaningfully at her.
"Avoidance, isn't it just a trait of being a turtle?"
'Um... '
"I didn't want to answer, that's why I didn't respond!" Anna found an excuse for herself.
Giorgio raised an eyebrow. "Not wanting to answer is also a form of avoidance. So, my question made it difficult for you to answer?"
Anna nodded vigorously, then immediately shook her head.
Their relationship was awkward, he was still Katherine's husband, and it wasn't appropriate to bring up any topics regarding romance.
"Difficult or not, I don't want to talk about it. But Mr. Vittorio, do you always speak so directly to girls?"
Giorgio frowned. "Not every girl gets a chance to talk to me."
So?
Does he always use this approach when talking to girls?
Just like with Edith?
Anna smiled faintly. "Then I should consider it an honor to be able to talk to Mr. Vittorio. Let's toast with water, to celebrate."
She was cunning, quick-witted, and managed to change the subject.
Seeing through her tactics without exposing them, Giorgio pursed his lips slightly and lifted his tea cup with his slender hand, taking a sip.
He believed that she should indeed consider it an honor. She was the first person who made him ignore his cleanliness habits and be willing to share a hot pot with others.
In the evening, Anna bathed the two children separately.
Penny was particularly happy. "Mummy, are we going to stay here?"
"Yes, but don't touch anything randomly. Be good."
"Okay! I want to sleep with Charlie."
The children were still young, so it was okay for them to sleep together.
But Anna thought of something and quickly said, "Penny, don't you usually like sleeping with Mummy? How about when Mummy holds you?"
Penny shook her head. "No, I want to sleep with Charlie. We kids will sleep together, and you adults sleep together."
"No, there's a difference between boys and girls," Anna tried to persuade.
Charlie chimed in, "Anna, I'm only 6 years old, and Penny is only 5 years old. It's okay!"
Anna said, "But Charlie, don't you have to sleep next to Daddy? Don't you want to be close to Daddy tonight?"
Charlie shook his head. "Anna, I still haven't fully recognized Daddy yet."
Saying that, he hugged a pillow, held Penny's hand, and walked towards the guest room.
Anna was left speechless.
She couldn't even convince two little children now?
Hearing footsteps behind her, she quickly said, "The two children easily fight with each other, so I'll go sleep next to them."
Giorgio didn't stop her and walked elegantly to the side of the bed, picking up a financial newspaper and flipping through it.
She was unlike any other girl.
Also, sleeping together with him, indeed, made her feel shy and uncomfortable. Besides, it is torturous for him to sleep with her, she would rather maintain an appropriate distance.
Hopefully, this night will be relaxed, and full of sweet dreams.
During the night, Giorgio couldn't sleep and was going through his emails and making a note of things he needed to keep in mind. When he noticed another email from the Sunshine Group, his dark eyes narrowed.
The email read, "Thank you for your generous donation to the cause! We would like to honor your kindness by asking a simple question. Below are two pictures of twin sisters. Seeing as you married the one you weren't engaged to; did you ever truly love your fiancée?"
Attached to the email were two photos seemingly taken at the same time. One was of Anna pretending to be Katherine at the wedding reception, and the other was Katherine in a coma.
The message was clear, they were taunting him and they knew.
It continued, "To submit the answer, please attend the charity banquet two days from now where our esteemed president, Renaldo Glorian, will be in attendance. With gratitude, The Sunshine Group."
He nearly tossed his phone to the other side of the room.
They knew! Renaldo had somehow found out that Anna was filling in for Katherine. He was done playing their game. Giorgio needed to take care of this as soon as possible.
From what his men told him, Renaldo was at an event tonight, so that's where he went without his men.
It was dangerous and probably a trap, but he knew he would be faster this way.
Renaldo and his men walked into the underground parking lot, ready to go home. He heard a struggle and quickly spun around. All of his men were on the ground with a bullet wound in their skulls.
He reached for his pistol but it was too late. He could feel the heat of the barrel pointed at his neck. "Get inside the car and drive!" Giorgio ordered, retrieving Renaldo's weapon.
Renaldo did accordingly while Giorgio sat in the passenger seat and told him where to go. He obeyed, because he didn't want to die without saying what he needed to.
He never expected for Giorgio to be so proactive and reckless! From his research, he thought Giorgio would have never taken this type of risk.
Was this because of the email he sent? So, those women were important to him in some way.
No, he probably just didn't like being taunted. The Giorgio he knew cared nothing about women. His dead sister could attest to that.
Giorgio led them to a secluded area on top of a mountain.
Renaldo got out of the driver's seat with his hands over his head. Before he could open his mouth, Giorgio sent a flying punch to his face.
"You bastard! You think you can threaten me? Take me for a fool? By the time I'm done with you, there'll be nothing left to identify!"
Renaldo kicked Giorgio in the stomach and backed away. "That's nothing compared to what you did to Caroline!"
Giorgio was about to attack again when he recognized that name. So it's a person. "You crazy bastard, I don't know anyone by that name!"
"But you do! And you killed her!"
Coraline was a simple girl and kind with skin as clear as a sunny day and a smile wider than the ocean. She had dreams of becoming a model, and she was Renaldo's little sister.
She was the closest relative he had.
So when she came home after her first professional photoshoot with her head in the clouds, he immediately suspected that this new found love of hers would cause trouble.
She promised that Giorgio was a gentleman and that they weren't even dating, but Caroline hoped that one day she would become his bride.
Caroline was blinded by his straightforward demeanor and status, thinking that such a guy paying attention to her was a privilege and underestimated these newly found feelings of hers.
She kept it from her brother that he had taken her virginity and slept with her for two months. Since Giorgio had walked with her outside, she thought that he was developing feelings for her too, since he rarely was seen with other women and he told her that his engagement was an arranged one.
Maybe he really did love her!
But on the third month, she was suddenly banned from the house, the security claiming that the boss said he didn't know anyone named 'Caroline'.
She called and texted but they all went ignored until she was eventually blocked.
As she left from the house, someone followed her and assaulted her sexually, mistaking her for a big-time actress on a popular show.
Caroline reported it to the police. To make matters worse, her agency found out and cut her off because they couldn't have a "defiled woman" stain their company's reputation.
She cried in her brothers’ arms for days without telling him anything.
Caroline saw Giorgio again, but his eyes glanced over her like she was invisible. And Katherine was talking his ear off.
After a week of continuous torment, Caroline took her own life.
