Chapter 478 Ultimately Gave Up on Mr. Vittorio
If she and Giorgio could just take a leap for their feelings, maybe things would work out. Maybe Giorgio could actually fix everything for her.
But now, the baby in her belly felt like a heavier burden than any moral judgment. How could the Vittorio family ever accept her being with Giorgio while pregnant with Giuseppe's kid?
Giuseppe wouldn't be cool with it either! What would the kid call Giuseppe in the future? And what about Giorgio?
These questions were scarier than her being Katherine's sister. And she couldn't bring herself to abandon the baby. In this mess of uncertainty and hopelessness, she was still rolling the dice with Elodie.
"Miss." Just then, the doctors came out of the ward.
Anna snapped back to reality and anxiously asked, "Doc, how's my grandma doing?"
The head doctor looked at her, all serious and polite, saying, "Miss, the patient's condition has gotten worse. It's critical, and we've only managed to stabilize her for now. I need to notify the attending physician to move the surgery up. It'll start in an hour. But..."
He paused before continuing, "Given her condition, the success rate of the surgery has dropped again. You need to be prepared."
Anna was floored. She asked, "How much has it dropped? What's the chance now?"
The doctor sighed, sounding more like he was trying to comfort her. "Twenty percent. Miss, we'll do our best. Please come to the surgery room to sign the consent form."
With that, he walked away.
Anna's heart skipped a beat. From sixty percent to twenty percent, a huge drop. She knew that with Elodie's current state, the old lady couldn't handle it.
At that moment, Katherine's voice echoed in her ears, and Anna's face turned pale, her body weakening.
Her grandma, the baby, Giorgio. These three heavy thoughts swirled in her mind.
Things had come to this point, she couldn't gamble with Elodie's life, nor could she abort the baby. Even if she didn't want to give up Giorgio, she was forced to make a choice.
Then, Anna seemed to have made up her mind, took out her phone, and dialed Katherine's number.
No answer! She turned and ran downstairs desperately to catch up.
"Katherine! Wait!"
Katherine had just gotten into the car. As she heard the voice, a smug smile appeared on her lips. Sure enough, she had bet correctly.
Forty minutes later, Elodie was wheeled into the operating room. And Giorgio, who had just fallen asleep after finishing work, got a call from the doctor he had arranged at the hospital. "Mr. Vittorio, Elodie's surgery has been moved up. Also, Anna had Katherine be the donor and chose the first option."
Hearing that, Giorgio was wide awake, hung up the phone, and called Anna.
"Hello? Mr. Vittorio?" Anna's voice was small.
Giorgio asked, "You accepted Katherine's demand?"
He was sharp, quickly figuring it out and guessing her choice. Anna bit her lip and took a deep breath, saying in a helpless yet determined tone, "Yes, so Mr. Vittorio, don't contact me anymore. I won't see you again."
Hearing that, Giorgio's deep eyes turned dark. He said seriously, "Do you know what you're saying? Anna, I hope you understand the consequences."
He had said he wouldn't accept her leaving. She had also promised him before not to break up with him easily. Unfortunately, she had to break that promise.
Forty minutes ago, Anna had promised Katherine that after her grandma's surgery, she'd head back to Vista Heights and never show her face to Giorgio again, and make Giorgio forget about her completely.
Since she agreed, she had to stick to it, no matter how much it hurt.
She gathered her courage and said, "Mr. Vittorio, I was never sure about us from the start. I agreed to try because you pressured me and I was confused. Now that my grandma's in trouble, I can't choose you over her."
She added, "Honestly, I wanted to agree with Katherine the first time she demanded it, but I hesitated because of the old house I just moved into, which is important for my work. So, you see, I wasn't that reluctant to leave you. You're really not that important, not compared to my grandma."
She said, "I've made up my mind to go back to Vista Heights and find a new place to live. I won't contact you again."
"Anna, you're lying." Giorgio interrupted her, his voice filled with anger. "Did Katherine force you to say this?"
"No." Anna denied anxiously. She didn't want to give him any hope. Even without Elodie, the baby in her belly was a problem. "Mr. Vittorio, to be honest, when Simon flew from Vista Heights for me and offered half of Dalio Group's shares to talk to Katherine, I was moved. He's gentle, wholeheartedly devoted to me, and he looks just like my first boyfriend. I was really moved."
Anna added, "I thought at the time that if he saved my grandma, living with him in Vista Heights would be great. Unlike being with you, always cautious, sneaky, and you're so petty, I always have to think about pleasing you."
"When I was with Antonio and Simon, they were the ones pleasing me. Honestly, I never really forgot Antonio, nor did I completely forget Simon. So I was emotionally unfaithful at that time."
When she finished, her palm had five bloody marks, a result of her clenching her fist and digging her nails into the flesh.
Giorgio was fuming with anger after hearing this. Gritting his teeth, he said, "Anna, I'll give you one chance to take back what you said."
Anna insisted, "I can't take it back. I don't want to deceive myself. Even without this incident, I couldn't suppress my feelings for Simon and would continue to be emotionally unfaithful. So breaking up with you is not painful for me at all. Let's end it here."
After saying this, Anna hung up the phone. She was afraid that if she continued, she wouldn't be able to hold back her tears.
And the moment the call ended, she squatted on the ground, holding her head and crying bitterly.
Sara felt heartbroken watching this, not knowing how to comfort her. After all, she knew how important Elodie was to Anna. And she knew that with Anna's kind nature, she couldn't possibly abort the baby. So leaving Giorgio was a forced and only choice.
She squatted down and hugged her, comforting, "You'll feel better after crying."
Her words made Anna cry even harder, leaning into her arms and sobbing uncontrollably.
Sara felt sad too. Her favorite couple was over. At the same time, she was more worried. If Giorgio didn't give up and came to find Anna, how would Anna face him in her current state?
However, Sara was overthinking. After that call, Giorgio didn't call back or come to the hospital. It was as if he had disappeared from Anna's world.
The surgery continued throughout the night.
At eight in the morning, an unexpected news story hit the headlines.
"Oh my God! Anna, look!" Sara exclaimed.
