Chapter 495 Video Call
"Didn't you take her to dig into that Mrs. Vittorio mess?" Tony asked.
'How'd it end up being about... that?' was left unsaid. But Giorgio got the drift, and his face went dark.
Anna used to tiptoe around Katherine, scared she'd find out about them, but now she's flipping the script. This time, he nabbed her just to see what she was up to, no hidden agenda. That kiss she planted on him? Totally outta left field, making him even more curious.
He shot back coldly, "That's part of the investigation too."
Anna spent the whole day looking after Charlie. Later, she found out that after she left, Charlie was all mopey, locking himself up at home and even giving Giorgio the cold shoulder. Giorgio had her come over to patch things up with Charlie and help him out.
For a sec, she felt a pang of guilt. Seemed like she was always hurting Charlie.
But she needed him now.
"Mr. Vittorio, let Charlie crash at the villa for a few days," Anna said. She wanted to take care of him and, yeah, use him to get her phone back.
But Giorgio shot her down, "He's signed up for an elite class for math and English. School starts tomorrow."
Charlie had agreed to this when he came over. He piped up, "Auntie Anna, seeing you and Daddy make up makes me happy. I'll study hard and become someone who can protect you!"
Anna knew this was Giorgio's way of keeping her from getting too close to Charlie. She forced a smile, "Alright, good luck."
"Got it!" Charlie chirped, hopping into Tony's car after dinner.
Before leaving, he added, "Auntie Anna, Daddy, you two have fun. And hey, even if Daddy's a bit weird, it's just part of the couple's game, so hang in there."
Anna's face went beet red, and Giorgio's mouth twitched.
After Charlie left, the room was awkwardly quiet.
Anna wanted to bolt; she was super worried about Penny and Sara. She took a deep breath and looked at Giorgio, pleading, "Can I have my phone to call Penny? She's back home and needs to video call me every night to sleep."
She didn't mention Penny's situation to keep him from siding with Katherine. And now, his attitude wasn't gonna change just 'cause she was in a bind.
Giorgio saw the sadness in her eyes; her care for Penny was real. He sneered, "Anna, if you loved me as much as you love Penny, we wouldn't be here."
He was basically calling her unfaithful.
Anna's face went stiff. She had thought about being loyal, but that unexpected kid messed everything up. Maybe she and Giorgio were just never meant to be.
Watching Giorgio's cold back, Anna knew he didn't outright refuse her phone request and followed him upstairs. As soon as she got her phone, she dashed to the quiet balcony and turned it on.
Seeing a bunch of missed calls from Sara, she called back. "Sara, I'm fine. My phone was off earlier, so I missed your calls."
"Anna, you finally called me back! Do you know I was freaking out, thinking Katherine found you, kidnapped you, and, like, killed you? I was about to call Mr. Dalio! What's going on with you?" Sara bombarded her with questions, clearly worried.
Anna sighed, "It's nothing major, just got nabbed by Mr. Vittorio's crew. He's punishing me for messing with Katherine, so I'm kinda grounded for now. Don't stress, I'm fine. I'll sort it out in a couple of days and come find you."
'Mr. Vittorio captured Anna to punish her for Katherine?' Sara was speechless for a moment. Then she said, "Mr. Vittorio must be blind. Katherine doesn't deserve his time. Anna, use these two days to win him over. It'll make everything easier, and you can hold onto him and kick Katherine to the curb."
Anna had thought about that.
When she went to the city hall, she really wanted to stay and start fresh. But after Enrico spilled the beans, she backed off. Later, when she found out Giorgio had totally moved on and was cozy with Katherine, she lost her nerve. Even when she tried to apologize and explain, he didn't buy it.
She realized she couldn't sway him anymore.
Anna said, "Sara, I'll see what I can do. I need to call Penny now. Bye."
She didn't say much, hung up, and called Simon. Simon had been looking after Penny and knew her condition best.
The video call connected. Simon was sitting in the ICU chair, half the camera on him and the other half on Penny. He said, "Little princess, your mommy is calling you."
Penny, with an oxygen tube in her nose, looked so fragile and peaceful. She tried to open her eyes to speak, but she was too weak.
"Penny." Seeing her, Anna choked up, her heart aching. "Penny, I'm sorry. It's Mommy's fault for not protecting you. I'd rather be the one lying there than you. You have to get better soon. Today, I saw Charlie, and he asked about you. To avoid making him sad, I didn't tell him."
Anna continued, "You want Charlie to be happy too, right? Get better soon, and I'll take you and Charlie to play games and eat your favorite pizza. Without you, I can't eat anything."
Anna said a lot. But no matter what she said, Penny lay there with little reaction. She looked like she couldn't wake up, which was heartbreaking.
"Anna, calm down," Simon gently comforted, "Although Penny's condition hasn't significantly improved, it's stable these past two days, which means she'll gradually get better. Don't worry, with me here, I'll do my best to save her."
Simon was gentle and firm, like a warm and reliable support. Anna nodded with tears in her eyes. "Thank you. I'll try to finish my business and come back soon!"
Simon said gently, "Alright, take care of yourself. If you need anything, contact me anytime."
"Okay." With that, Anna hung up, looking at the pitch-black mountain scenery outside, feeling heavy-hearted.
Penny was in that state, and she had been in Crownhaven for many days without finding out anything, feeling useless. No, she had to speed up.
Anna stood outside for a full half hour, took a deep breath, and went back inside. Coincidentally, Giorgio had just finished his shower and came out of the bathroom. They met face to face, their eyes locking unexpectedly.
His eyes were so deep, revealing no emotions. In contrast, his muscular, well-defined body was too eye-catching!
