Chapter 482 Mr. Vittorio's Heart Withdrew

Penny jumped like a cat on a hot tin roof when Giorgio moved so suddenly.

Charlie was scratching his head too. 'Why's Daddy flipping out? Is he mad or something?' he wondered.

Seeing the kids' big, round eyes staring at him, Giorgio got a grip on his feelings. He still couldn't play it cool, not really.

Finally, he said, all icy, "Go to bed. I'll handle this."

In the slammer, Anna was sprawled on the cold, hard iron bed, feeling like she'd been hit by a truck. She didn't cry, but man, she felt wronged and helpless.

Elodie's surgery was done today, which should've been a good thing, but here she was, stuck in this mess. Her life was a total train wreck. She'd always had the worst luck.

Just then, she heard the lock click. Then the guard's voice came through. "Anna, someone bailed you out. You're free to go."

'Bail? Must be Simon or Giuseppe,' she thought.

Anna jumped up and slipped out while everyone else was still snoring. But outside, there was that familiar Maybach!

It was Giorgio! What the heck was he doing here?

Anna froze, her brain short-circuiting.

Seeing her just standing there, Giorgio let out a cold chuckle. "If it weren't for the kids begging me, I wouldn't be here."

Translation: Don't get any ideas.

When a guy went cold, he could be colder than ice. His voice, his sharp profile, and that frosty vibe made it clear—no more Mr. Nice Guy.

Feeling his chill, Anna's heart sank. She wanted him to stop caring, but now that he had, it still stung.

But hey, she brought this on herself.

"Thanks, Mr. Vittorio. I'll grab a cab back to the hospital. No need to trouble you." Anna said it all polite-like, not getting in the car, just standing by the curb.

Giorgio felt a mix of emotions bubbling up. He came all this way, and this was her response. She didn't even want to see the kids.

If she was gonna be heartless, why should he care? "Text the kids yourself." With that, he revved the engine and took off.

Dust blew into Anna's eyes, making them water. The car vanished, just like he had from her life.

It took a minute for Anna to pull herself together before she hailed a cab back to the hospital.

"Anna?" Sara looked shocked when she saw her.

Sara said, "I couldn't get ahold of Mr. Dalio today, and Mr. Giuseppe Vittorio was MIA. Mr. Giorgio Vittorio wouldn't lift a finger, so I was stuck."

She added, "I thought you'd be in there for a while, so I came to the hospital to stay with your grandma, figuring I'd have to come up with some excuse for her tomorrow."

Then she asked, "Anna, who bailed you out?"

Anna caught the bit about "Mr. Giorgio Vittorio wouldn't lift a finger," and her heart clenched. Looked like he really had moved on.

"It was Charlie's idea," Anna said, brushing it off, then switched gears. "How's my grandma? Any news?"

"She's stable, no worries," Sara said.

Seeing Anna's bruises, Sara got all worried. "But what happened to you? The nurse didn't hit you that hard this morning!"

Sara grabbed Anna's arm, checking it out.

Anna said, "It's nothing. Just some folks in the detention center who heard the news."

Sara got mad. "Anna, I don't get why you keep covering for Katherine! If you hadn't helped her bury the news about her and Giuseppe, she'd be toast, and you wouldn't be in this mess."

She added, "It's not just Mr. Vittorio who's ticked off; I'm mad too!"

Anna gave a bitter smile. She didn't want to be in this mess either, but she screwed up four years ago. Since then, Katherine had her on a leash.

But not anymore.

Anna reassured, "Don't worry, once Grandma wakes up, we're heading back to Vista Heights and cutting ties with her for good. If she tries anything again, I won't let it slide."

"Let's hope so," Sara said, still skeptical.

That night, the two of them squeezed into the tiny hospital bed and crashed together.

Early the next morning, a nurse came in, "Ms. Stefanelli, your grandmother's awake."

Anna bolted out of bed and dashed to Elodie's room. There she was, Elodie, who'd been lying there looking like a ghost, finally opened her eyes. Anna's eyes filled with tears as she called out, "Grandma."

Seeing her, Elodie's once empty eyes sparkled, and a faint smile crept onto her lips. It was faint, but that smile was as warm and kind as it had been when Anna was a kid.

"Grandma, you woke up." Anna hugged Elodie, choking up. At that moment, it felt like everything was worth it.

But after a bit, Elodie still didn't say anything. Anna looked at the doctor and asked, "Doc, why isn't my grandma talking yet?"

"She just had surgery yesterday and hasn't fully bounced back. Don't worry, Ms. Stefanelli, she'll get there," the doctor said kindly.

Then, as if he remembered something, he added, "By the way, our medical team is heading to Vista Heights for an exchange today. If you want, she can go with them and transfer there."

Hearing that, Anna was a bit taken aback. But then she thought, given her current crappy situation, it was time to bail.

Maybe she shouldn't have come here four years ago.

She bit her lip and asked, "But my grandma just had surgery. Can she be moved?"

The doctor nodded. "Don't worry, it's pretty common for patients to be transferred. Our team is top-notch, and there won't be any issues. Plus, it's rare for us to head to Vista Heights. If you go back alone later, there won't be anyone to look after her."

That's true. Anna thought for a moment, her eyes showing determination, and then she made up her mind. "Okay, please arrange it for my grandma, thanks."

The medical team was set to leave at noon. Time was tight. Anna didn't have time to pack or deal with other stuff; she just picked up Penny from kindergarten.

When Charlie heard the news, he looked bummed and curious. "Auntie Anna, why are you leaving? Aren't you gonna date my daddy anymore?"

That question made Anna super embarrassed and troubled.

When parents split, it often messed with the kids, and her thing with Giorgio would definitely affect Charlie. But it couldn't be helped.

"Charlie, I'm sorry. My grandma just got out of the hospital, and she's really important to me. I need to go back and take care of her for a while. Don't overthink it, be good."

Charlie didn't buy it at all! As soon as Anna left, he ditched school and headed straight to The Vittorio Group.

At that moment, Giorgio was in his office, deep in a project discussion with two senior execs, looking all serious and stern.

The office door suddenly flew open. Charlie stormed in.

"Daddy, tell me, did you do something to hurt Auntie Anna again?"
