Chapter 43 The Threatening
After several ambiguous encounters, she was not without guilt. However…
"From the beginning, I stayed because of Charlie, and I never had any thoughts about him, not in the past, not now, and not in the future. You can trust me, I have no interest in a blind man who doesn't even know his own wife." Each word was powerful and clear, echoing in the spacious villa.
In the corridor, Giorgio, who overheard their conversation, had a swift change in his handsome face, his presence becoming overwhelmingly cold. Anna wondered if this coldness was because he knew she didn't covet him, or if he had misunderstood from the beginning.
Katherine stared straight into Anna's eyes, unable to detect any trace of guilt or deception. A sinister smile curled up at the corner of Katherine's mouth. "It's better that way. And as for that previous matter, if you dare to let Giorgio know, I won't spare you."
Anna knew she was referring to the incident with Black Jack. She responded casually, "Don't worry, I'm not that shameless. But, sister, are you trying to threaten me? You see, I'm the type who responds better to begging and tears rather than threats. It would be even better if you offered some hush money."
"You!" Katherine never expected Anna to be so shameless, and she was filled with anger. However, before she could finish her sentence, a figure came down the stairs from the corridor. Giorgio! When did he come down?
Anna noticed that Katherine's gaze was off and followed her line of sight to see a man towering above them.
That cold aura, the sense of danger, sent shivers down one's spine!
He asked, "What is it that I shouldn't know?"
His voice was cold and his tone interrogative.
Anna felt embarrassed and frustrated. She had only wanted to scare her sister, but he had overheard her. What would he think of her now?
No, why should she care about what he thinks of her!
Faced with this question, Katherine felt guilty and replied, "Giorgio, it's nothing... just a small matter."
However, Giorgio, being noble, ignored her and focused his gaze on Anna. He said, "How much hush money were you planning to give her? I'll give it to you."
His words were somewhat mocking and sarcastic.
Indeed, he had developed a prejudice against her.
Although Anna didn't care, for some reason, his question still left a bitter feeling in her heart.
Receiving her sister's pleading gaze, she said, "Alright, but since you already gave her a black card before, you don't need to give her anymore. Last week, when she was playing a temporary role on set, the male extras started to grope her and even kissed her. She didn't want you to know."
She knew that at this critical moment, giving a simple excuse wouldn't make Giorgio believe. And Katherine always threatened and bullied her, so she had to give her a little taste of her own medicine. Otherwise, she would keep getting bullied as if she were a kitten.
After hearing Anna's explanation, Giorgio gave her a sharp look but couldn't find any guilt in her face. Combined with the time when Katherine was injured and fainted last week, it matched up, so he believed her.
With a cold gaze, he turned to Katherine and said, "You brought trouble upon yourself. If these things end up in the news, the engagement is off." He detested the ambiguous atmosphere of the entertainment industry and didn't want the Giorgio Group to be involved with those low-level scandals.
Once Giorgio had walked away, Katherine angrily approached Anna, ready to slap her, and said, "You bitch, how could you come up with such an excuse!"
As if anticipating this, Anna raised her hand to catch Katherine's slap, saying, "If I didn't come up with this excuse, do you think Mr. Vittorio would believe you? If he starts suspecting and investigates, it'll be easy to find out the truth. Also, sister, I have never offended you, I don't owe you anything, and I am not your dog. You can't keep hitting and threatening me repeatedly. Show some respect, we can talk about anything."
After speaking, she let go of Katherine's hand, took a step, and went straight upstairs to find Charlie.
Charlie was still in bed, huddled under the covers, fast asleep.
Anna walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, saying, "Stop pretending and get up."
As soon as he heard her voice, Charlie pulled back the covers, revealing his little head, and asked, with a hint of avoidance in his tone, "Have they all left?"
He was referring to someone he was trying to avoid, and it definitely wasn't Giorgio.
Curiously, Anna asked, "They should have left. Don't you like your mommy?"
Anna knew for certain that Katherine hadn't taken care of Charlie as her own child, causing him to feel estranged. She held his little hand with compassion and said, "Alright, let's not talk about that. I'll take you out to play."
Upon hearing the mention of going out to play, Charlie immediately got up and exclaimed, "Great, I want to go to the aquarium!" He quickly got out of bed and went to wash up and change clothes.
Seeing how lively he was, Anna couldn't see any signs of autism in him. She indulgently smiled and got up to prepare the items for going out.
The aquarium, situated in the southern part of the city, covered an area of thousands of square meters. Inside, there were various types of fish, coral and underwater plants, as well as mermaid performances. Although it wasn't as magnificent as a big city, it was enough to satisfy a child's curiosity.
Anna brought a mask for Charlie and took him to buy tickets before entering the aquarium. Since it wasn't the weekend, there weren't many people around. Charlie freely wandered inside, looking at all the different types of fish, his eyes sparkling.
Since he was young, his father had been busy with work and his mother... he had never played with anything and had no idea that there were so many interesting things in the world. It was only after Anna started playing with him that he became interested in the world of children.
